PKS was launched on January 1, 1984 as a privately owned German television broadcasting station, one day before RTL. Initially a joint venture of various publishing houses, their first broadcast could only be seen by roughly 1200 households who owned cable access in the city of Ludwigshafen. Early programs included old films, mainly from the archives of KirchMedia, American hit series and game shows. On January 1, 1985, exactly one year after the launch, the channel was renamed to Sat.1.

Visuals: On a space background, a "P" draws in and a red line appears at the center of it. After that, it draws a circle connected to it. Then they go down next to the line of the "P" and draw at the right bottom. When they do that, there are lines under the circle wiping in, forming a blue outlined satellite dish. Soon after the satellite dish is formed, the red "PKS" zooms in. A color-changing light appears on top of the satellite dish once the text is revealed.
Technique: Cel animation.
Audio: A synth tune with faint beeping sounds.
