Inoperative Vehicles

Overview

Code 12-860 defines an "inoperative vehicle" and prohibits their storage in residential zoning districts.

Code 12-924 reiterates and states that inoperative vehicles are prohibited in residential zoning districts.

Violation

The storage of inoperative vehicles detracts from the aesthetics of the neighborhood. Inoperative vehicles may harbor pests and other wildlife, creating a nuisance as well as a safety and health hazard. The presence of inoperative vehicles can cause reduced property values in the neighborhood.

Corrective Action

Remove or properly store your inoperative vehicle(s). If feasible, repair your vehicle in a timely manner. Ensure your vehicle(s) are properly registered and display a valid license plate and registration sticker. If you desire to simply get rid of your car, you may consider contacting a local charity or non-profit that accepts working and non-working vehicles as donations.
