Teressa Claire "Tress" MacNeille (pronounced MACK-Neal; born June 20, 1951) is an American voice actress. She voices various characters on The Simpsons such as Principal Skinner's smothering, yet verbally abusive mother, Agnes Skinner, Cletus Spuckler's wife/sister/cousin, Brandine; generic late-1990s, early 2000s businesswoman Lindsey Naegle (and any female executive type that was an early version of Naegle's character, as seen on episodes like "The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show," "Make Room for Lisa" and "Girly Edition"), local bully/teenage thug Dolph Starbeam (though earlier episodes like "The Telltale Head" had MacNeille voicing Jimbo Jones [normally played by Pamela Hayden]), orphaned brother and sister duo Patches and Poor Violet, Crazy Cat Lady, a once-promising female doctor/lawyer who became The Crazy Cat Lady due to mental illness, alcoholism, and hoarding cats; Dr. Hibbert's wife, Bernice (on the rare occasions that she talked; mostly, she had no lines, and, with animated works forbidding white actors from playing characters of color, Dr. Hibbert's wife is now voiced by Dawnn Lewis, who voices Hermes Conrad's wife, LaBarbara, on Futurama); Nelson Muntz's promiscuous, degenerate mother (who, as of this writing, is unnamed); territorial real-estate agent, Cookie Kwan; mangaka and current wife to Jeff "Comic Book Guy" Albertson, Kumika (now voiced by Jenny Yokobori, due to the push to hire voice actors who match the race and ethnicity of their characters); and several one-shot characters (mostly young women, elderly women, girls, and boys). MacNeille was also the replacement voice for Apu's wife, Manjula (formerly voiced by Jan Hooks, though with Apu and his family canceled due to heightened concerns over racial and ethnic stereotypes being portrayed in the media, Manjula has since been retired) and passionless, unhygienic, chain-smoking cafeteria worker, Lunchlady Doris (formerly voiced by Doris Grau, who died). Outside of The Simpsons, MacNeille is known for her voicework on a wide range of animated shows (mostly shows meant for children) from the 1980s and beyond. She can be heard on such shows as Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Rugrats (both the original series and the spin-off, All Grown Up!), most of Disney's animated TV shows (Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Timon & Pumbaa, House of Mouse, etc), The Mask: The Animated Series, Histeria!, and Matt Groening's two other animated satires: Futurama (which was on FOX and is now on Hulu) and Netflix's Disenchantment.
