Green Day is an iconic American punk rock trio. They first became successful with the release of their album "Dookie" in 1994. Their 2004 album, "American Idiot" was also a major success. They along with The Offspring have been credited with bringing back Punk Rock. They made an appearance in The Simpsons Movie, where they sacrifice themselves for playing music for three and a half hours, like Billie Joe Armstrong says.

Some hits Green Day have had include "American Idiot", "Basket Case", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Know Your Enemy", "21 Guns", "Holiday", "Warning", "When I Come Around", “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”, and “Wake Me Up When September Ends”.

    History

They were playing at a concert on a barge floating in Lake Springfield. Green Day was playing their own version of The Simpsons theme. When they were done, they were tired of playing so long so they wanted to talk about the environment. Everybody suddenly got very angry and started throwing various litter at them. Most of the litter missed them and polluted the lake worse than before, causing the barge to dissolve and sink. As this happens, the band members pull out violins and start playing "Nearer My God To Thee" as the barge sinks, killing them all. At their funeral, in Springfield, the organist plays one of their singles, American Idiot (Funeral Version).

    Behind the laughter

Green Day requested to be guest stars on The Simpsons Movie. The band recorded a rock version of The Simpsons Theme, which plays in the beginning of the movie and during the end credits. Their version of the theme song peaked at 101 on the U.S Billboard Charts.

    Notes

    • The song "Nearer My God To Thee" is believed to be the last song that the band aboard the RMS Titanic played as the ship was sinking. The band members (none of whom survived the sinking) continued to play even as the ship was sinking in order to keep the passengers calm. This is what Green Day did when their barge was sinking.
    • A common belief among fans is that Green Day's longtime touring guitarist Jason White was made an official member of the group with the release of their 2012 ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! album trilogy, and reverted by his own accord to being a touring member before the release of the 2016 album Revolution Radio. White himself has stated that he was never a full member and that he recorded on the trilogy as an additional musician because the band wanted a more "live" sound to the albums.
