80,000 Candles.
Yesterday was a public holiday. (The third one this month!)
So I didn't do any work. That was good.
I got up at about 10.30 and went to Denny's with Rob, where we met Glen and his 2 year old daughter, Katie.
We taught Katie how to give Glen the finger. Uncle Rob and Uncle Rich are awesome.
All the waitresses think it is so adorable when we three grown gaijin men sit around playing with this little girl.
We probably look so stupid.
After Denny's we went to Yamada Denki where I bought new blades for my Phillips shaver. Three blades, and $20 each!! Oh well, it's the first time I've changed them in the five years I've had the shaver. It has made a huge difference though! Moustache grooming takes mere seconds instead of the half an hour it does with blunt blades.
In the evening Yukako and I went to the internet cafe. We got one of the cool little rooms that has a lounge and a TV and DVD player, as well as a computer.
Yukako helped me apply for an Astroboy credit card! I've never had a credit card before, but I think I'm going to need one. I'm pretty sure they will give it to me, because I earn a lot of money, and am not a single cent/yen/otherwise in debt.
Then we played growcube for a while, before having dinner at Magle's Cafe. This cafe is loosely themed around Harry Potter (they have English looking things everywhere), and is supposed to be pronounced Muggles'.. But the owners aren't good at Englishing.
After dinner we headed for the hills, where one of Yukako's friends had organised this huge event. He had handed out 80 thousand paper cups all over Honjo, which were written and drawn on by the citizens and children of the city. A tea candle was then placed in each up and set into place amongst the hills.
When they were all lit, in the dusk, it was a beautiful thing to see. There was a path leading through the cups so we could see the prayers people had written, and the drawings the children had done. Some of them were really good!
As I didn't know we were going, I didn't take my camera. But Yukako took some photos, so I'll hassle her for them today.
The first year students here at Yorii High keep calling me Kevin. I don't know why.
