80,000 Candles.

Yesterday was a public holiday. (The third one this month!)
So I didn't do any work. That was good.

I got up at about 10.30 and went to Denny's with Rob, where we met Glen and his 2 year old daughter, Katie.

We taught Katie how to give Glen the finger. Uncle Rob and Uncle Rich are awesome.

All the waitresses think it is so adorable when we three grown gaijin men sit around playing with this little girl.

We probably look so stupid.

After Denny's we went to Yamada Denki where I bought new blades for my Phillips shaver. Three blades, and $20 each!! Oh well, it's the first time I've changed them in the five years I've had the shaver. It has made a huge difference though! Moustache grooming takes mere seconds instead of the half an hour it does with blunt blades.

In the evening Yukako and I went to the internet cafe. We got one of the cool little rooms that has a lounge and a TV and DVD player, as well as a computer.

Yukako helped me apply for an Astroboy credit card! I've never had a credit card before, but I think I'm going to need one. I'm pretty sure they will give it to me, because I earn a lot of money, and am not a single cent/yen/otherwise in debt.

Then we played growcube for a while, before having dinner at Magle's Cafe. This cafe is loosely themed around Harry Potter (they have English looking things everywhere), and is supposed to be pronounced Muggles'.. But the owners aren't good at Englishing.

After dinner we headed for the hills, where one of Yukako's friends had organised this huge event. He had handed out 80 thousand paper cups all over Honjo, which were written and drawn on by the citizens and children of the city. A tea candle was then placed in each up and set into place amongst the hills.

When they were all lit, in the dusk, it was a beautiful thing to see. There was a path leading through the cups so we could see the prayers people had written, and the drawings the children had done. Some of them were really good!

As I didn't know we were going, I didn't take my camera. But Yukako took some photos, so I'll hassle her for them today.

The first year students here at Yorii High keep calling me Kevin. I don't know why.

Velly and Violence

I had Velly Soft Girl and Violence Girl in class today.

Violence girl though it would be funny to pull some of my arm hair out, as I was walking past. I turned to confront her looking stern, arms akimbo, legs a shoulder with apart.

And she kicked me in the nuts.

It was a playful kick, not meant to damage, and it actually stopped short of hitting home. Because at the last second, whether to protect me, or just have some fun - I'm not sure, Velly Soft Girl whipped out her hands, and grabbed Violence Girl fair on the boobies.

Violence Girl screamed loud accusations of "SEKU HALA!" (Sexual harassment) which Velly Soft Girl denied saying "No! Communication!"
Then she started yelling "OPPAI! OPPAI! OPPAI! OPPAI! OPPAI!" (Boobs Boobs Boobs Boobs Boobs)

I decided to just turn and walk away. As I was doing so, they both agreed that I have a nice arse.

It is a good week this week.

Monday I had one class in the morning, and because all the teachers were leaving at lunch time, I was told I should leave too. Which was good, cause I was feeling kinda crappy. I hung out at home for a bit, then had dinner with Yukako, went home, and crashed out.

Yesterday I didn't have any classes. So I didn't go to school. I had lunch with Yukako, then did some washing and buggerised about my house before I had dinner (and 1.5 litres of beer) with Lee, Mike and Ivan. The beer was only 590 yen for the 1.5 litre glass!

Me, Mike, Beer
Me, Mike, Beer

Today I have had a full day, and don't have anything much planned for tonight. I might hang out with Lee again.

Tomorrow, I have three classes, then I'm off to The King George, in Ikebukuro to DJ again, after which I might head to the Ruby Room in Shibuya to check out Anonymous Dave. I'm also going to be playing at The King George on the 10th and 25th of November, then every fourth Saturday after that.

Friday is a public holiday. There is something on that Lee wants me to go to. He says there will be lots of University student girls there. So I guess I'll go too.

========

I'll tell you about my b'day party once I have the corresponding photos up on the internet. Which I hope to do have done by tomorrow afternoon.

We are back to midnight phone calls...

1am, phone rings.

Yukako: Sorry, did I wake you?
Me: No, I can't sleep.
Yukako: Why not?
Me: That girl keeps emailing me.
Yukako: That crazy girl you went on date with?
Me: Yeah.
Yukako: Why you always date stupid crazy girls?
Me: Good question.
Yukako: Can you call me to wake me up in the morning.
Me: Sure.
Yukako: Thank you! You should just email her to SHUT UP.
Me: Who?
Yukako: That stupid girl.
Me: That's mean.
Yukako: Then put smiley face after!
Me: Haha.
Yukako: *gulp gulp gulp* Ahhhhh.. I DRANK BEER! Oh oh.. I think I'm a bit drunk.
Me: You are cute when you are drunk.
Yukako: Noooo, maybe I'm just tired.
Me: You are cute when you are tired too.
Yukako: Noooooo.
Me: Uhhuh.
Yukako: I can spit good!
Me: I'm happy for you.
Yukako: Why?
Me: Because you can spit good.
Yukako: Can you?
Me: No you can.
Yukako: That's good! Ok I go to bed now, talk to you in the morning!

-----------------

One of my students told me I look just like Mr Incredible, during first period today. Is that a good thing?

-----------------

In second period, we had a little time left over at the end of class. So some of the boys decided to do my hair, with wax and hairspray.

I don't know if you ahve ever seen Japanese boys, but let me tell you. When it comes to hair, they believe BIGGER, SPIKIER!!

I now have the most amazing coiffure ever!

Dodgy phone photos:

Ok so maybe not the MOST amazing.

It was crazier just after they had done it, it is kinda flatter in the pics.

Actually I think my hair was crazier when I worked for DEST in Australia, and I had random long and/or spiky red/pink/green or blue bits.

Is it just me, or am I going bald?

A long weekend review.

So this past weekend was a long weekend. ANd I did plenty of stuff to make it seem even longer!

Friday night I went to Rob's to play poker with the boys. I ended up losing about $100, which kinda sucked. But seeing as I have won big the last few times we have played, it evens out. That's all that happens when you play poker with the same group of people. The same money just keeps changing hands. After poker, I went to Dolphin with Pommy Mark, and organised my birthday party!

28th of Oct: Richard's Crappy Costume Halloween/Birthday Party.
@ Dolphin from 7:30pm.

The rules: You may not spend more than 1000 yen on your costume.

This way, you will have more money to buy me beer.

You're all invited.

Saturday, I went to Tokyo to hang out with Lee, his new girlf Itsuki, and her friend Chika.

We went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Ueno, and had an awesome time. We all laughed and laughed and laughed. Then we went to sing karaoke, and had a great time there too. I honestly haven't had so much fun, in a very very long time.

Chika is the smallest, cutest thing ever invented. She looks about 12, but is actually 29 (Same as me!) We got along really really well, and both decided it is a sad thing that we just met, and she is moving to Brisbane this coming weekend.

We have been emailing each other every day since, and she decided she is going to try to get down to Sydney for a few days while I am there over the Christmas/New Year break.

Looking forward to that!

Chika thinks I'm a Loser?
Chika and myself at karaoke. (crappy phone photo, because we all forgot to bring our cameras)

I went back home at about six on Saturday evening. My friend Katsumi came over with her PS2 and we played games. I beat her in the Kanji knowledge one. Which was awesome, because she is Japanese. Hahah! She left about midnight.

I went to sleep, and got up at about nine, and was on the train back to Tokyo by ten, for my date with Midori. Which was a shitty time, Midori is small and cute too, she looks about 14, but is 29 also (I am concerned... I think Japan is turning me into a peadophile!) Unlike Chika, she is not fun. She is annoying and jealous/crazy. We went to the movies. (Movies are good, because you don't have to talk to the person). She wanted to see "World Trade Center." But I said I wouldn't see that, so we ended up watching X-Men 3 instead. Unfortunately we had to wait for three hours for the movie to start, so we ended up having lunch, and then just wandering around the shops. (I spent a good half hour in the Lego shop though).

Somehow, we "randomly" ran into one of her friends and her new boyfriend. So we had to have coffee with them. I was a bit pissed off, because instead of talking to me, they just talked about me, in Japanese. At one point Midori's friend asked her how old I am, Midori said how old to do you think he is? She answered, somewhere around 35? I looked at her and said (In Japanese) "No, you are very wrong! I am 29!" Then they all realised that I was able to understand everything they were saying, and they were rightly embarrassed.

So then we went to see the movie. Sunday evening I was meant to go to the Cosmos Festival in Okabe, with Katsumi and Megumi. But it was very windy, so Katsumi called me to tell me that it had been canceled, and that they were going to go to the movies instead. To see X-Men 3. I explained that I had just seen it, so I would catch up with them another time.

Midori got the shits because another girl had called me. By this stage it was dinner time, so we had dinner together, and that was very boring.

I won't see her again.

Yesterday was a public holiday, so I slept in, then I played computer games at Lee's house, and after that I went out to dinner with Yukako.

Yukako and I are getting along better than ever now. We had a lovely time, and both ended up in fits of laughter several times over. We went to our usual cafe, and I'm sure the staff there now think we are the weirdest couple in all of Honjo.

Oh well, I don't care!

The End.

Thoughts

So I went on the date with Chiho last night, we went to a nice izakaya called Wa, and we had a pretty good time. We just chatted about stuff, like our jobs, and what I used to do in Australia, and what we like to eat, and stuff like that. It was fun to practice our foreign languages out, and we certainly had more to talk about than Megumi and I did, when I went on a date with her.

While we were having dinner, Yukako called my phone. I didn't answer, so she called again, and again. Chiho was telling me to just answer it, so I did, and we talked for a few seconds.

Yukako: Hiya! Where are you are you at home?
Me: No, I'm out having dinner.
Yukako: Oh, by yourself?
Me: No, I'm with someone.
Yukako: With Lee?
Me: No, I'm with someone else.
Yukako: ............ YOU ARE ON A DATE!!! Oh no! I'm so sorry for calling and interrupting! Gomenne! I'm really sorry, Bye bye.

*hang up*

Chiho had to work early this morning, so I walked to her car, and we said our goodbyes at around 10pm.

Then I called Yukako, who said I was really cute on the phone before. She wanted to know if I was with "Goldfish Girl" (Megumi), and seemed quite surprised when I said I was with someone else. I think she was happy that I had actually gone out with someone, and we chatted for about an hour and a half.

Rob emailed me this morning to ask how the date went. So I told him we had a lot of fun, but I was disappointed that Chiho had to leave my place so early this morning so she could go to work. Hehehehe.

Oooh, here are the weekend photos from Kaori's birthday party, and the Honjo Matsuri (festival).

(Incidentally, the girl in the front and the girl on the right are the girls I am talking about in this post. The one on the right is Yu, the one who was knocked out).

Oh yeah! I almost forgot! The other day, on my one year in Japanniversary, Hiromi (who cut my hair, and can be seen in the Kaori's birthday photos), became the first person ever to notice I have some grey hairs.

:-/

I didn't even notice before.

Nice Clean!

I hate washing clothes. Especially in summer in Japan. It is so hot and humid, that your clothes just don't dry properly, and end up smelling funny.

Also, I don't own an iron. And if I did, I wouldn't bother using it anyhow.

The other day Yukako and I were at the laundromat using the big clothes dryers (it is the only way to get properly dried clothes) and she noticed how dirty my cuffs and collars are.

She wanted to scrub them for me, but I wouldn't let her. I said that I probably should just buy new shirts, as these ones are quite old, and they never seem to get 100% clean when I wash them.

So she told me that her brother always gets his shirts dry cleaned, and that she didn't even know you could actually wash shirts in a machine! She thought they were all dryclean only.

The upshot of all this is; my Member's Card is for an ordinary, every day, dry cleaner's.

:|

It means I get a 30% discount!

So 10 shirts and two suits ended up costing me 3500yen.

And they even press and pack the shirts in those little plastic things, just like when you buy them from the shop.

I'm never washing another shirt again!

I have no idea what the "LOVE CHANCE" I could got (sic) is. But the girl who works there is super cute. So here's hoping it has something to do with her.

Nemuiiiii!

I stayed up to watch the World Cup game vs Italy last night.

Shouldn't have bothered.

It was a great game, until right at the bitter end, when the ref gave that patently unfair penalty kick to Italy.

Why do they evern bother calling it a "world" cup. It is obvious no non-European/South American team will ever be allowed to compete fairly.

Such a farce.

Yukako called me as soon as the game ended to give me some sympathy, and tell me she thought Australia deserved to win.

Mind you this is the same girl who called me to tell me she hates Australians, and wants to kill me, after we beat the Japanese team.

So far, not a single teacher or student today, has mentioned anything about last nights game.

Quite wise I think.

Best soccer ever.

I had an awesome night last night.
I was invited by my friend Sawao to Too Cute in Isesaki. It is a huge Mexican themed izakaya, where he is the chief bar man.
They had a special World Cup night on. Where you payed 1500 yen to get in, and for that price, got a meal, and cheap drinks.

Sawao kept giving me free beer anyhow.

I was the only Aussie there, but Shanon and Hudson, being from New Zealand and The Soloman Islands respectively, became honorary Aussies for the night.

We stood and sung the national anthem in front of 200 Japanese, and they applauded when we had finished.

During half-time I was the most popular man in the place. EVERYONE wanted to have their photo taken with the Aussie.

After full-time I wasn't so popular.

When Australia scored their first goal, I received an amusing email from Yukako.

When Australia scored their second goal, I received and even more amusing email from Yukako.

Sometime around then, either between the first and second goal, or after the second goal, the Japanese team decided to bring on a replacement. I'm pretty sure it was after the second goal.

Everyone in the bar started chanting his name and cheering. I waited until the chanting had died down, and let out a perfectly timed (even if I do say so myself) OSO SUGI YO!! (IT'S TOO LATE!!). Minutes later, Australia scored their third goal, and all the little Japanese girls started crying, LITERALLY!

Then Yukako called to drunkenly tell me she hates me and wants to kill me. (She called me to apologise this morning).

After the match everyone came and shook my hand, and offered their congratulations. A few guys tried to give me the hard squeeze, but I wasn't too concerned.

I got home about three this morning.

Other highlights of the night were Shanon consistently saying things to his wife, Hiroko, and Chikasa (Sawao's girlfriend), then going to the toilet, leaving me to explain such words as "lactating" and "quickie".

Click on me with Yukako's first amusing message, to see the photos of the night.

Herro

I promise I will write something very soon about my time in hospital and how I am recovering and all that jazz, really soon.

I am just a bit busy marking exams at the moment.

Come tomorrow I should have a bit more free time.

I was going to leave you with a photo of my operated on pinky, but it seems I haven't uploaded any to my photobucket, so here is one of Yukako biting her foot instead.

Hangovers and Astral Travel?

Yesterday was a public holiday here in Japan. Some buddhist thing where you are meant to go to the cemetary and pray for your dead relatives or something. I don't have any relatives interred here, and I'm not buddhist. So I didn't bother with that. Instead I used it as an excuse to get really drunk on Monday night.

I didn't originally plan to get really drunk, I was just going to have a few drinks with Rob at the izakaya across the road from my house. But by a stoke of luck one of the English teachers I work with at Kodama High was also there with two gym teachers, and they were very drunk! So they invited Rob and myself to join them. Which we did. It was pretty fun, especially when the English teacher's VERY young wife (I think there is something like a 20 year age difference) came to pick him up, but he passed out, so she just hung out with us for a while. Finally she woke him up and told him that he was rude for falling asleep on us, so he paid for the whole bill!

This was around 1am, and we were quite drunk, and having not spent any cash at that izakaya we decided to go to the Filipino bar down the road, where we drank whiskey and sang karaoke with old business men and young filipino women.

At some stage I was rather ill, this is when I discovered that I don't chew my food enough when I eat. I made Rob go and look and he agreed that it seemed as though I had regurgitated a whole steak.

I stumbled home and had to be sick again. But I didn't make it to the toilet, so there was a nice mess on the floor that I had to clean up in the morning.

After cleaning that, I went to Dennys for lunch (we were too hungoever to go for breakfast) with Rob, Norriko, Pierre, Shuri (Pierre's gorgeous wife), Glen and his wife, Katie (Glen's daughter) and Yukako. I hadn't seen Yukako for a few days, mainly because her Mother and Brother had been in town, but also because she had her haircut, and she is a little embarrassed by it.

Here is the SMS conversation we had about it the other day:
Me: Hi! What have you been up to today?
Yukako: Hiya! I went to hairdresser and had been shopping for my school. What are you doing?
Me: I just got home from work. Do you have a funky haircut now?
Yukako: I look like monkey!
(This made me laugh, because when I had my big mutton chop sideburns she kept telling me I looked like a monkey and should shave them off.)
Me: That's okay! People who look like monkeys are really very trendy and good looking.
Yukako: NOOOOO! I look like monkey, which has not take shower, cannot climb tree.. I hate it!
Me: hahahahahah
Yukako: Shutup!

After lunch at Dennys I went home and slept for a few hours, then Yukako and I went to Magles for dinner. After that we went over to her house, and hung out. It was the first time I have been there! She has the coolest oven ever! It connects to the internet and she can download recipes and they come up on the screen, then all she has to do is mix the appropriate ingredients, then pop it in the oven and press GO, and the oven knows how hot and how long to cook it for! SOooooo cooool!

She dropped me home at about 11:30, cause I was still really hungover and tired. But I couldn't sleep until after 3. And when I finally did sleep, I had bad dreams.

For a long time I have been having night terrors which usually happen in children, but sometimes adults. I'm one of those adults. Anyone who has been lucky enough to sleep in the same vicinity as me will know that I do occasionally wake up screaming.

What usually happens is that I have my eyes open, and can therefore see the room around me, but my subconious superimposes uncool stuff on-top. So I'll be thinking I'm still lying awake in bed, when suddenly someone will jump up from no-where and without warning stab me in the chest or something. It seems realler than real. At this point I am concious enough to know I am dreaming, and try to wake myself up. But often can't. I am being stabbed (or whatever) and I can't wake up, can't move, can't scream. Eventually I do wake up, rather violently, with a fair bit of movement and screaming.

Anyhow, last night I did things a little differently. I was in my room in Hojno, when someone jumped out and stabbed me, and I remember being terrified, as always. I recognised it as a night terror, and can quite vividly remember that I wasn't going to put up with it, being my dream and all. So I conciously changed the situation. I left my room in Honjo and transported myself to my home town of Bathurst in Australia. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, it was a concious decision, I believe I was lucid dreaming. I was standing outside the house I grew up in, I took a deep breath, and rushed through the hedge out the front of the house, and through the closed front window, into the bedroom that was my parents. But my parent's weren't in the bed, another couple was. I stood there and watched for a while, until the woman woke up and appeared to see me. I fled through the front window again and ended up back in bed, when I woke up feeling rather creeped out, but not screaming, which was cool.

The whole time I was aware that I was sleeping, and actually in bed in Japan.

Very strange, I wonder if I can do it again.

Rich
