Stolen Copied from [personal profile] stardreamer because I didn't do the last question meme.  My Answers will be varied as I went to 3 different schools for 9th - 12th grade, but most of them will be true as of my SENIOR year:

The year was: 1967

1. Did you know your spouse? No.  Not that I have a spouse.
2. Did you car pool to school? Walked (it was two doors down), took buses (New York City), walked (largely a pleasant walk except in winter and rain).
3. What kind of car did you drive? I didn't have a car; only three of the other students had cars.  It made driver ed. interesting.
4. Were you an athlete? *strangled laughter*.
5. It's Friday night... where were you? At home, either watching TV, or reading, or watching TV and reading.
6. What kind of job did you have? None.  I never did find out what the rules were for under-18 work.
7. What kind of job do you have now? Retired, with a side of writing, occasional photography, and earrings.
8. Were you outgoing? No..
9. Were you a cheerleader? Did my alma mater even have cheerleaders?  Don't think so.
10. Were you considered a jock? *guffaw*.
11. Were you in band? No.
12. Were you a nerd? Not really...
14. Can you sing the fight song? 9th grade had a song that included the word "fight," but that was about it.
15. Who was/were your favorite high school teacher(s)? Miss F and Sr. JM.
16. Where did you sit for lunch? In the cafeteria and I'm trying to remember if that was "organized."
17. What was your school's full name? [omitted]
18. What was your school mascot? Blanking on that;we may not have had one.
19. If you could go back and do it again, would you? No way
20. Did you have fun at senior prom? N/A.
21. Do you still talk to the person you went to senior prom with? N/A.
22. Are you planning on going to your next reunion? Next year I will have been out for *shudder* 50 years. It depends on whether I'm there when the reunion is scheduled; I'm not making a special trip.
23. Are you still in contact with people from school? No.
24. What are/were your school's colors? *shrug* Don't remember.  Navy & white?

Works for both Live Journal and Dreamwidth; you just go to http://www.katewillaert.com/ljstats/ and copy and paste the link there (substituting dreamwidth.org for livejournal.com). There are instructions (Save Page As, Choose File button, etc.) and then you paste the code into the HTML tab on Post An Entry. So easy I only screwed up twice!

I didn't think I commented on my own stuff quite that much.

onyxlynx: The words "Onyx" and "Lynx" with x superimposed (Default)
No, I'm not British; I merely have ancestors who came from various British "possessions" and I grew up reading occasional British editions of things, which is why I'm not bent out of shape by British/Canadian spelling. So. How compromised am I?

1. Marmite—love or hate?

Had once.  Not in my wheelhouse at this time.

2. Marmalade—thick cut or thin cut?

I think of marmalade as more like jam than liverwurst.

3. Porridge—made with milk or water?

Hmmmmm.  Hot cereals?  I grew up with oatmeal, Wheatena, and corn meal mush, all made with milk; I have on occasion made them (well, Wheatena has left my repertory) with water; sometimes I want one or the other.  The pot is still a bitch to clean though.

4. Do you like salt, sugar or honey on your porridge?

At one point I sugared hot cereals.  I don't anymore.  I cinnamon them.

5. Loose tea or teabags?

Depends.  I am not a purist.

6. Where on your door is your letterbox?

In the foyer.  With the others.

7. What's your favourite curry?

Lamb.

8. What age is the place where you live?

Probably 1920s.  By local standards, ancient.

9. Where do the folks running your local corner shop come from?

Don't seem to have one.

10. Instant or fresh coffee?

Fresh.

11. How far are you from the sea?

5 k/3 mi.  Not bad.

12. Have you travelled via Eurostar?

No.

13. If you were going to travel abroad, where's the nearest country to you?.

Mexico.  I'm embarrassed to admit I've never been.

14. If you're female (or possible even some males) do you carry a handbag?

I wear a cross-body carry-all.  Or a belt pouch/fanny pack.  I do not "carry."

15. Do you have a garden? What do you like growing?

There's a garden in back, which I admire, but I don't work on either of the gardens I might.

16. Full cream, semi skimmed or skimmed?

Yer full cream (i.e. Whole milk), which ironically lasts longer in the fridge than the skimmed.

17. Which London terminal would you travel into if going to the capital?

Either Heathrow or Gatwick.  This did mean airline terminals, right?

18. Is there a local greasy spoon where you live?

Apparently not, unless one counts the Chinese restaurant on the other side of the highway, and they're more an "oily" spoon.  The true greasy spoons were priced out of the neighborhood years ago

19. Do you keep Euros in the house?

No but I have some Canadian dollars and a few miscellaneous coins.

20. Does your home town have a Latin, Gaelic or Welsh alternative.

Hmmm.  I think current home is Terra Quercus and previous home would be Nova Eboracium, or something like that, but I'd have to check.

21. Do you have a well known local artist or author?

Several.

22. Do you have a favourite Corrie character?

I've never seen Coronation Street, so that would be No.

23. Are your kitchen sink taps separate or a mixer?

Mixer.  (Separate would be truly inconvenient; I've only seen separate in bathroom sinks.)

24. Do you have a favourite brand of blended tea?

Celestial Seasonings' "Zingers."

25. What's in your attic if you have one?

N/A

26. If you go out for a cream tea, what jam do you like on your scone?

It's been years.
Really, anything that tastes good and doesn't leave seeds stuck between my teeth.

27. Talking of scones—scon or scown? Jam or cream first?

I saw it well before I heard it, so scown (scohn, that is).  It depends on what's nearest to hand.

28.Barth or bath?

Short to slightly broad a.  Barth is an author.

29. Carstle or castle?.

Also short to slightly broad a.  Although I take carstle as variant pronunciation.  Like "aunt."  (They didn't do aunt!)

30. What flavour of crisps do you favour?

Corn.  Not a fan of the potato.

31. If you go to the chippie, what do you like with your chips?

We have a different meaning of that word on this side of the Atlantic.  Sorry.

32. Take away, take out or carry out?

Take out.

33. If you have one, what colour is your wheelie bin?

N/A

34. What colour skips does your local skip hire use?

N/A  (I know it relates to garbage hauling and serious garbage hauling, respectively, but I'm not sure which is which.;-))

35. Do you celebrate Guy Fawkes?

No.

36. Dettol or TCP?

No.  (Mr. Nguyen [the mechanic] would know, but the oil change trip is autumn.)

37. Do you have a bidet in the bathroom?

No.

38. Do you prefer courgettes or aubergines?

Aubergines are eggplants, which are ok cooked, especially Parmigian, but that's the only way I've had them.  Courgettes I can never remember.  [Offstage:  Psssst!  They're zucchinis!]
I've eaten them.  I think.  They're ok cooked, too.  No strong preference there.

39. In the 'real world', do you have friends of other nationalities? Which nationalities?

French, African, Irish, Haitian, Canadian, and an expatriate or two..

40. Do you have a holy book of any sort in the house?

Two Catholic Bibles, a later edition of the Book of Common Prayer, whatever I was reading last night.  With very few exceptions, I can't stand to toss a book; they're holy to me.

41. Do you prefer a hankie or tissues?

Tissues.  I grew up at the very end of the hankie-having era, and ugh.  Dad still had and used handkerchiefs; I have one.

42. Are you a fan of crumpets? What do you like on them?

Don't think I've had one.

43. Doorbell, knocker or both?

Intercom and buzzer.

44. Do you own a car? What sort?

Pontiac.  Giving me shpillkes.

45. What sort of pants do you guys prefer? Y fronts or boxers?

N/A

46. Anyone still a fan of suspenders?

Apparently, what is meant by that is actually "garter belts." which I haven't seen on anyone outside of porn in years.  I was very much too tall by the time I turned 16.

47. Do you have a favourite quote from the bard?

Many.  It depends on when you ask.

48. Do you like toasted muffins?

I am sufficiently old-fashioned that I like them flattened on the griddle and then buttered; that isn't done anymore.

49. Do you think a traditional trifle should contain jelly?

Traditional persiflage, yes.  Traditional trifle, no.

50. Do you attend regular religious worship? Of what kind?

Up until 10 years ago, the excesses and cross-claims of various religions repelled me.  Occasionally I attended the odd service with my parents; mostly I avoided that whole area.  To this day, talk about evangelization makes me twitch and talk about promoting religion (not the same thing) Closes My Ears, which is of course why I want to read more [personal profile] gerald_duck .  Without going into the gory details, when my late sibling was in the hospital and Mom and Dad came out to visit, I took them to the only Catholic church  I knew of; I ended up there after my attempt to return to the Episcopal Church didn't exactly work out; I joined in 2009.  Yes, there is stuff not making me happy (ask me about the Archbishop of San Francisco some time) and yes, the Episcopalians are closer to some of my positions.  But yeah, the Pope is stuck with me, ;-)
So yeah.  Weekly with occasional weekday worship.

onyxlynx: Nondescript stack of old hardcover books (Stack of books)
Some Buried Caesar, Rex Stout.  Which I may not finish because, for the first time, Archie Goodwin has got up my nose.  Which is odd, because this is the book in which he first encounters Lily Rowan, who becomes his main albeit offstage squeeze.  But Mr. Stout's prose style is (seemingly) just this side of stilted, And it is raking its nails on how I hear the characters speak.  I don't think this book is resisting me merely because Nero Wolfe is out of his comfort zone element.  Maybe I just can't read Stout anymore.

Rereading A Dark Matter, Peter Straub.  Many fewer loose ends this time.

onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
This has extended into 4 Weeks for Dreamwidth.  Well, this is not a celebration one can have too much of, right?

18. What don't you talk about here, either because it's too personal or because you don't have the energy?

I don't have the emotional energy to answer this question. ;-}

Full list of questions.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
11. What features do you think Dreamwidth should have that it doesn't currently?

Well, I'd still like a blockquote button, and perhaps someday I will be able to just think at the keyboard and it will transcribe all those nebulous half-chewed thoughts and correct the typoes and post for me.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
9. Are there two people on your reading list that you think should meet?

By now, just about everyone I've thought of suggesting someone that they might be interested in reading has already subscribed and granted access to each other.  Wait, that sounded awkward.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
16. What are you glad you did but haven't really had a chance to post about?

Um, it's sort of a secret.

Let's just say some people have gotten a surprise and leave it at that.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
6. What do you wish people who read your journal knew about you?

Goodness.  Mostly that although I am a dead bore, I am interested in you and what you're up to, and I do try to comment if I have the words.  And that I don't yell at people even if they are committing Fail, although Fail will probably bring out the Sarcasm Sprite.  Also that I get silly ideas for writing that evaporate within ten feet of laptop or pen.  Also I'd like to be long-form funny.  But enough about me.  Why has humor been reduced to bodily functions?
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
I know, but I started late.

21. What's your favorite thing about Dreamwidth?

Everything.  This year, the posters.  And no ads.  And the amazing huge effort to make Dreamwidth the best social/journaling site experience.  (Yes, I know there are people for whom this is not true.)
onyxlynx: The words "Onyx" and "Lynx" with x superimposed (Default)
7. What is your favorite community on Dreamwidth?

Oooooh, tough one.  I seem to be ... detached ... from my communities lately.  A lot of that is because I'll see a community post, and by the time I've excavated a response, said post is at skip=150.  If I still remember what I wanted to say.  (Yes, yes, filter to communities only and remember to do so on the second pass.  The key word there is "remember,")

Lately, I have mostly commented at [community profile] capslock_dreamwidth , but that is my inner snarkmeister talking.

onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
2. Why did you choose your journal name?

I think the original answer still applies.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
12. What do you consider the five most "telling" interests from the list on your profile? Why?

Well, as I don't have an interests list, I decided to let my tags do the talking.

It turns out that deaths and birthdays totally fascinate me.  Leaving out deaths and birthdays, the next five most-tagged tags are:  "music fan," "baseball," "life & politix," "politix," and the ever-popular "what?"  This is interesting (ha!) in that I hadn't expected politix to be that high; this is not the political blog.  (Life & politix is supposed to cover the interactions thereof.)  And ""what?" is really supposed to be for sheer incredulity, not that there isn't a lot of that happening in the world.

Obviously I need to get out more.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
14. Did you have a gateway fandom? Still in it? Why or why not? Is there a community for it on DW?

To answer the last question first, there is[community profile] fandom  community on DW,  It is, unfortunately, closed and was never updated.

I got into (science fiction) fandom just before the Reformation subfandoms began to erupt.  I don't read that much sf any more, but a good mystery will always lure me (as will a bad mystery until I notice).  It seems that when the world is science fiction, books don't have quite the same ooomph, but I could be proven wrong.

My TV fandoms would have been Man from U.N.C.L.E., I Spy, and Dark Shadows (for the hilarity factor).  (I've seen all three on YouTube recently, and wow, that is some Swiss cheese.)
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
8. What community do you wish was more active?

All of them.

However, [community profile] shutterspeed  was reactivated and I haven't had my camera out (except for getting the extra shots for the April project) lately.  I really should just check the image files.  Although I think one of the recent prompts was "red," and the images I flashed on were in New York, and the scanner Doesn't Work terribly well.  I want to participate more in [community profile] classicfilm  and [community profile] rocknroll_n_blues_queens  but I don't at the moment have anything to say (and I'm not alone).  I see sonnets everywhere except [community profile] sonnets .

[community profile] bechdel_test  and [community profile] capslock_dreamwidth  have been pretty active, actually.

Actually, if they were all active, I couldn't keep up. :-)

onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
1. Why did you sign up for Dreamwidth?

It seemed like a good idea at the time.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
4. What do you do online when you're not on DW?

Gee. Some of the stops on the circuit have changed, but mostly I still check the rounds of sites I've bookmarked over the years, sometimes more than once a day.  I play a game.  I research music on YouTube.  Occasionally I research other things.  Oh, and check email.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
17. How many people on your reading list do you know IRL?

A fair number, actually. My memory is lousy, though.

Also, if we've been bouncing words off each other long enough, here and/or newsgroups and/or apas, that's real life enough for me.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
10. Tell me about your default icon.

For the last 4 years, it's been my handle in Uptype with the x superimposed on a black background and demonstrating CYMK.  Lately I've been thinking of changing it to Pirate Teacup because I've been selecting that a lot lately, but I don't want to have to change all the icons, and anyway, I am realizing as I type this, there are a couple of extra things that the teacup lacks.

Too bad one can't sort posts by icon.  That would be ... odd.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
19. Any questions from the audience?

Comments screened; can be unscreened on request. Questions of too personal a nature will be fed to Jaws. Or Pennywise. I'm not particular.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
13. Do you have any unique interests on your user profile? What are they? How'd they get there?

Oh, right, I still haven't posted my interests.  The tags don't help either.  Ah, well.  Maybe the occasional infection control stuff?
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
3. Do you crosspost? Why or why not?

Sometimes. Although automatic crossposting to non-LJ-type services still doesn't exist, occasionally (last week, in fact) I just copy the HTML and paste it into the other site. The set-up is that [blogspot.com profile] onyxlynx is for my politically oriented blatherings and [personal profile] onyxlynx  is for my general blatherings, but sometimes the streams get crossed, y'know?  So, for example, this article will get linked at the blogspot site, and this one will turn up here.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
20. Yes, but what are your thoughts on yaoi?

Still don't actually have any thoughts on yaoi; it just doesn't speak to me.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
5. How about when you're not on the computer?

I'm usually cooking, walking, in church, or sleeping. Currently I am running a lot of paper through the shredder; last year I decluttered, and it returned and multiplied, and it seems that no matter what I do or how thoroughly I do it, there will still be bank receipts from the '90s in here.  I also commit much sudoku, especially the harder puzzles, usually as bedtime relaxants (heh).  And there are periodic attempts at the Harper's cryptic crossword puzzle, which I got 98% correct two months ago.  Sewing is waiting until I make up my mind!

Or I could be the hero of my own spy movie.  Your call.
onyxlynx: The words "3 weeks 4 Dreamwidth" in white on violet background. (3 Weeks for Dreamwidth)
15. What's your current obsession? What about it captures your imagination?

I still don't have that kind of obsession, but at the moment I seem to be finding videos of the Temptations wherever I go. I stumbled upon the David Ruffin documentary this last weekend and the Eddie Kendricks documentary a bit later.  And there are various ancient clips and Soul Train performances floating around in YouTube land.  There's a series, Unsung, about forgotten/lost/deceased artists which I'll need to investigate later.

It's all about harmony, choreography, and musical hooks.

Well, it's spring. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it.

How this works: You comment (no keywords necessary), I give you an age (please indicate current age so you don't have to project into the future), and you respond to the meme questions (in your journal) with what was true of you then and what's true of you now.

[personal profile] wild_irises picked 27 for me, which, as it happened, was a year of transitions.

I lived in:

I started out in a funny-shaped apartment in New York City; about midway through the year, I moved to another apartment in New York City with different peculiarities. I currently live in an apartment in Oakland.

I drove:

A used Chevy affectionately called the Money Muncher or the Grey Ghost. She was a beauty, but the engine was a mistake. I now drive the Crimson Falcon (my late brother's car), which comes in handy when the temp agency gets me assignments that start before the buses run. It is not crimson.

I was in a relationship with:

Memory says that I ended one relationship and put energy into another and sort of accidentally kindled a third, except that I think memory is smushing 26, 27, and 28 together. In any case, I'm not doing that now.

I feared:

Canines.

I worked at:

The legal division of an insurance company. And that is how I know that lawyers are required to fail English before admittance to law school. Yeesh. I am now a parasite with occasional temp work.

I wanted to be:

Somebody else. It took me a while to figure that out. I'm still not grown-up. This...is a problem.

 Today's card:

The High Priestess (George Barr) -- Seated woman in green gown trimmed with ribbing with a very thin crescent lower right.  It looks ancient and mysterious.  It's supposed to look ancient and mysterious.  I keep expecting to rub up its patina.
