HEY THERE! - we still need some authors for the Reversebang. Author sign-ups close in 10 days and at the moment we have slightly fewer authors than artists. I'm sure we'll get some more sign-ups in the rest of February and it's a bumper-sized fest already, with 40 artists enrolled, whee! You can sign up here at Livejournal or here at Dreamwidth. And I get to use my Rodney-as-pimp icon :)

Had a big work deadline last night - up most of the night finishing it. So I'm running on fumes but I want to catch up with these Snowflake posts before I crash.

Day 13
In your own space, ask for recs. Something as simple as "I like XYZ (where XYZ is a kink, a pairing, a trope, etc.) - please rec me some.

As I've said before somewhere, I really like OT4 fic. Yeah, it can be hot, and I enjoy that aspect, but it's the found-family aspect that really does it for me - I find it cheering and comforting. I've probably read it all in SGA but I'd still love to know what other people's favorites are and be reminded about them so as to go and re-read. So mostly SGA, by which I mean John, Ronon, Rodney and Teyla, but I'll take SG-1 puppy-pile recs as well if you have any - and those ones I most likely won't know. Thank you!

Day Twelve
In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom.
If at all possible, try to pick a smaller or rarer fandom, one that maybe doesn't have the following you feel it should.

I'm going to rec some key Mythbusters works. There are only 66 works on the AO3, so I think it counts as a smaller fandom! There's also a DW community, [community profile] myth_confirmed

I already reccd one of Toft's Mythbusters works for my Day Two post - The Pinocchio Fallacy - in that one, the trope is robot!fic (Jamie's a cyborg). Toft is one of my favourite Mythbusters writers and I recommend reading all of her works in the fandom - they're all excellent.

Another one by Toft is In Search Of - it's apocafic, and kidfic, and it's heartwrenching and lovely.

Then there's Robots Need Love Too by Toft, which isn't robot!fic in fact, but an AU set on a space station, about Jamie and Adam as neuroatypical kids.

It's mandatory to rec a genderswap fic, so here's A Supposedly Fun Thing Adam Will Never Do Again by sabinelagrande - also a great read.

And finally, I'm going to self-rec. Merry Christmas, Galileo is an epistolatory genfic about Adam and Jamie as friends, which I wrote a couple of Christmases ago, so it's still fairly seasonal.

Oh, and I covered Mythbusters art last year for [community profile] fanart_recs  - Here are Adam and Jamie, and the rest of the recs are all here.

It's a fun little fandom, and definitely in need of more love.

I've been hammered by multiple deadlines, mostly tedious RL things, so I'm catching up with this again.

Day Nine
In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something.

One of my recent deadlines was for the sg_flyboys Cam/John exchange, so I'm going to use that artwork and drabble, as it's just been posted and I finished it during the Challenge period. It's called Flyboys Holiday, and it's over here.

Day 10
In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing...
Maybe it's someone whose fanworks you always DEVOUR as soon as they're posted - who needs sleep, anyway?
This was SO HARD. There are so many great writers and artists to choose from that for a while I just couldn't. Then I saw a post on my flist from someone discovering this writer, and I thought Yes! This is someone whose work I'll devour whenever it's posted.
trophic! )

Day 11
In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon and explain why you love it so much.

Again - so much to choose from, but for me it has to be this clip from Stargate Atlantis "Rising II" where the city surfaces from the ocean. There's even a bit of audio with it! (I am so not a vidder). I know I'm a sap, but it always makes my chest all warm and tight when I see it. And, er, it's really kind of phallic, you know? in a terrifyingly spiky sort of way...

Right, catch-up time.

Day 6      In your own space, pimp three comms or challenges and explain why you love them.
[community profile] fanart_recs  - I love checking out all the cool art people recommend, and it's fun to take on a fandom - especially an obscure one or one I don't know all that well - and then have a happy trawling session finding interesting art to rec.
[community profile] yuletart was excellent this year, and a great spur to do original artworks, with some amazing works posted.
[community profile] sgareversebang  is also a favourite challenge and generates some great art and fic - and hopefully we can keep it going this year as well.

Day 7      In your own space, share something non-fannish about yourself. A passion or a hobby or a talent, something that people might not know about you. We are more than just our fandoms.
I once designed and made a non-lethal mousetrap out of a cardboard box, a funnel and a lure made of peanut butter. I was half-crazy with anxiety in the lead-up to a major exam and hated the organisation running the exams so much I had to repress all my anger. So it leaked out in dreams and worries about fires burning down various significant places (when I was away in another city for the exam itself I had to phone home to check the handset hadn't melted) and cue the humane mousetrap (reaction formation, anyone?). The mousetrap was bulky, but it actually worked and had the advantage of trapping the mouse in a traveling container, so I took the offending rodent away in my car and released it several suburbs over. Just as well I passed the damn exam - not sure I'd have survived a resit!

Day 8      In your own space, talk about setting yourself a fannish goal. Big or small, it doesn't matter.
I hereby DECLARE WAR ON PROCRASTINATION! As in the banner below, which I stole from a local DIY blokey equipment hire place. He's got the best tools - a level (for, y'know, balance), and a spade (for digging oneself out of plot holes, or a tunnel to the center of the Earth, whatever), and a HUGE DRILL-TYPE THING. Man, I want one of those (shut up Sigmund!)
Plus, less procrastination might mean I get marginally more sleep and don't torment my betas with ridiculously last minute drafts. It's a lot to hope for, but a girl can dream. (No! right, no dreaming. Doing, I'm all about the doing now)

(Day 3 was interacting with at least one new person, so I used all the friending we did over at kouredios' journal for that).

Day 4     In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

1. I'd love to do more collaborative podfic, so if anyone wants to rope me into a project I'd be thrilled to be asked.

2. I signed up for [community profile] trope_bingo - here's my card. If any of you have recs of your own or other fans' stories that fit tropes on the card, and that you'd like to have art done for, or a podfic made of the story (ideally for fics under ~3000 words), then I'd love suggestions. Ideally in a fandom I'm into such as: Stargate Atlantis, Teen Wolf, Sherlock Holmes, BBC Sherlock, due South, Slings & Arrows, MythBusters, Generation Kill, H-5O, Star Trek reboot, SG-1 - but others also considered!

3. I'd be really stoked if someone wrote a fic using one of my artworks as a prompt. They're all here. I was going to say: but not one of the Big Bang ones as those already have major stories attached, but on second thoughts, why not? Especially if you didn't read the Big Bang story and just did your own thing with the picture, that'd be great. I'm all for the multiverse.

That is all! Thank you.

Trying AGAIN to post this - had it almost done last night then went to research a detail and obliterated the post with a new search - and can I just say how much I HATE that there's no 'save draft' button on the DW posting interface (second time I've wiped a complicated draft in 2 days).

Day 2: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes.

So... I'm pretty hopeless at finding really obscure works or fandoms to rec, I'm afraid. I can only hope that a few people may not have encountered all the works or creators in this list.

Okay, so I'm doing the challenge this year, despite, or indeed because of, various other commitments.

Day 1
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Okay - Day #1 done! Woot!
