Snowflake Challenge Day #1: Self-recs
Jan. 2nd, 2013 02:03 amOkay, so I'm doing the challenge this year, despite, or indeed because of, various other commitments.
Day 1
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.
Art
I made this for the 2011 Kink Bingo and it's gone largely unnoticed, but I really like the simplicity, the clean 3-colour palette and, um, the idea. I find OT4 notions more comforting than kinky - they cheer me up. But this one's hot as well, because of where the names are tattooed. Plus, I don't do a lot of original art that's not at least partially blended from photo sources or a frank manip, and this is one such piece. I'd like to do more - it's one reason I've had an art blowout recently in Yuletart. But this was the first fully original piece since I started doing fanart.
Title: Sheppard Undressing
Fandom: SGA
Rating: R-ish. Not worksafe
Pairing: OT4
Medium: Photoshop - original digital artwork
Kink: Possession/Marking
Content notes: none
Podfic
I love this story so much, and it combines two of my fandoms - SGA and Due South, which
julia_here does wonderfully well. I really enjoyed making this podfic, but it never got a lot of notice - maybe as as it's a gen friendship story, or maybe there aren't so many fans who cross over between both fandoms, not sure. I also love it as I put brief bird call clips in between the different sections of the story to demarcate the shifts (it spans Benton and Rodney's lives from childhood to Atlantis, so there are quite a few sections). And finally, the cover I made for it is my favourite - it's so red, and geese! If you don't know this story go listen or read - it's really great.
Title: Birds of a Feather
Fandom: SGA/Due South crossover
Rating: G, Gen
Length: 1 hr 25 min
Features: Benton Fraser and Rodney McKay
Summary & Notes excerpts: A story of friendship between Rodney McKay and Benton Fraser. I wanted to record this fic as I love the writing, and she makes their friendship so very plausible.
Fanfic
This is a really short fic, but it's one where I had a cracky idea and the story just worked. It makes me grin to re-read it. Also, it was my first foray into C19th Sherlock Holmes fandom writing, and I've had fun doing mostly kinky fics there. The fic has a great ending, and I'm a sucker for good endings in stories, with a twist or a joke - or just a definite, well-written ending that doesn't trail off. Those allergic to vampires - fear not. This is comedy, so unlikely to irritate!
Title: The Ague
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (ACD stories)
Rating: Mature
Words: 658
Pairing: John Watson/Sherlock Holmes
Warnings: It's at least dub-con, probably non-con, re the biting, but not likely to be very disturbing, as a spoof. Mention of blood.
Summary: Sherlock's rumored to have come down with something nasty, and Watson, as a doctor, goes around to make sure that his friend's all right.
And one last Art
My current baby - my latest major artwork, done for Yuletart. I was so relieved to see someone else recently post somewhere about how they often really like a work they've made and keep going back to it to re-read or stare at it happily. Um, I do that too? *shuffles feet*. See, I'm obsessive and self-beta like crazy, but I'm fine with what I do having flaws in the end. I know the stuff I make - all of it in every modality - is a bit odd in one way or another, and the art tends to be quirky in style. There's always a clunky bit or something that could have been better. I'm not a pro writer or artist or recorder and while I'd like to keep improving and challenging myself, I'm not one of those artists who periodically burns all their paintings for having fallen short of 'perfection'. So currently I'm very fond of this one. Another original work - click through for the full details.
Title: Road Wolves
Fandom: Teen Wolf/Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior) crossover
Pairing: Derek/Stiles
Rating/Warnings: PG-13 for theme and weaponry. SFW.
Summary/Notes: Made for the Yuletart 2012 art exchange.
cricketmask wanted a post-apocalyptic Teen Wolf AU with deserts, leather armor, inexplicable motorcycles and weapons. Here's my version, with a random wolf.
Okay - Day #1 done! Woot!
