Oh man!!! Could this be the day that Nintendo FINALLY brings back Mary O.?! It's probably too late to have her be part of the tutorial, but maybe there could be DLC jobs in the story mode and some of them could be by her?? Or at the very least, a Mary O. Mii costume as DLC??

...oh. I see Nintendo still doesn't care about the feelings of Mary O. fanboys like me. (Unless Mary O. is one of the "official makers" like she was in the first SMM, but I think we all know that won't be the case.) :(
(Yes, I'm probably going to be posting about my favorite manual guide a lot more than usual for a while, what with Super Mario Maker 2 coming out this month and Mary O.'s fate still unclear and still not looking good. I apologize in advance because that means these posts are probably going to get even more annoying than usual. But I recently discovered that I seem to be the biggest Mary O. fanboy in the world if stuff from my own journal shows up so often in Google searches for her, so hey, I may as well embrace it!)
Well, with SMM2 coming out this month and Mary O.'s fate-- oh wait, I said that already in the disclaimer.
To make a long story short:

I also made these ones, but I won't upload them as userpics until I know they're legible enough. So, I ask you: Are these ones legible?
EDIT: Per a comment on DW, I already attempted to improve the legibility of the 1st, 2nd, and 5th ones. So, are THESE legible?

I've been wanting to make userpics with Mary O. in them for YEARS now, but until now I never got around to it. Mainly because I had the dumb idea of saving all of my userpic ideas - Mary O. or otherwise - for the next time I got around to making another poll asking which ones you wanted me to make. Which no one likely would have voted on because it would've been too long to read.
And the fact that Mary O. is seemingly being replaced in Super Mario Maker 2 is making me sad about it... and the fact that Nintendo has deleted EVERY trace of Mary O.'s memory from the official site (e.g. the online manual and Super Mario Maker Crash Course) is making me even MORE sad about it... thank goodness the Internet Wayback Machine saved SMM Crash Course and kind of saved the manual!
So I figured, if Nintendo is not going to keep Mary O. or Super Mario Maker Crash Course around forever, then I'll just have to immortalize the best Mary O. and Yamamura moments myself (the ones that'd make userpics I'm sure I'll have a use for, anyway).
This has certainly been a disappointing week for weirdos like me who are in love with the guide to a video game MANUAL...
So, the Super Mario Maker 2 direct came out recently and throughout the entire video, my major concern was "Is Mary O. still going to be in this game??? Is that female narrator supposed to be her or is it someone else?"
They showed that Undodog and Mr. Eraser in the story mode - in 3D, with what seems to be actual roles in the story. So that made me hopeful because, if two characters who usually only appear in the SMM interface have roles in the story mode now... does that mean Mary O. could be in the game with a role in the story?!
Then I realized... since I still haven't seen Mary O. at all in the trailer, that STILL doesn't prove that she'll be in the game at all let alone in the story.
Then I realized something even more disappointing: technically Undodog and Mr. Eraser still haven'tappeared in 3D, because for the story mode, Nintendo basically just stuck their 2D artwork (adding a LITTLE depth) in a 3D environment. So... if Mary O. appears in the story mode, they probably gave her the same treatment and now she's going to be canonically confirmed to be a 2D being in a 3D world.
Knowing that made me feel weird about myself... all this time I've had it in my headcanon that she's 3D and would be shown as such if she were in SSB or Mario Kart or something. If she ends up being 2D in a 3D world, that would not make her as attractive as I always thought she'd be...
I felt weird about that for a day or so.
Then today I discovered something even more disheartening:
She's probably not going to be in the game at all, or in any game ever again, because she seems to have been replaced with a new character named Nina.
WHY???
This is the most disheartening thing I've seen in a while. WHY DID THEY HAVE TO REPLACE HER? Why HER? It's just my luck that only one Super Mario Maker character has been replaced and it happens to be Mary O. - Undodog is still Undodog, Mr. Eraser is still Mr. Eraser, Coursebot is still Coursebot, even Yamamura is still Yamamura as it turns out, but they had to replace MY FAVORITE CHARACTER.
I changed my mind. I'm perfectly fine with the idea of Mary O. being two-dimensional, as long as she's still around! :(
I feel somewhat better knowing that I'm not the only one who was distraught about this - look at this outpouring of support for Mary O. in the comments:
But there's also a lot of people making fun of the people who are obsessed with Mary O. OR Nina enough to care which one is in the game, so that makes me feel bad about myself.
And admittedly, most of you probably similarly think it's crazy that I'm THIS disappointed that a manual guide was replaced. But that doesn't change the fact that I AM this disappointed about it! :(
You know how one of my April Fools' jokes this year was that I finally have a unique mood theme and it's Mary O.? I know this is a weird time to finally say so, but yes, that's actually a mood theme I've legitimately been considering for quite some time now, and I got the idea exactly the way I described in the prank - I thought it'd be amusing to bring up the idea in an April Fools entry first and then later on be like "Oh actually, that part wasn't a prank; I'm actually planning on making that mood theme!" But now that Mary O. is most likely GONE, never to appear in a game again, that pretty much takes the joy out of it. :(

Writing TWO entries about a moveset for the guide to a game manual, of course! :P
I wrote that first entry about Mary O. & Yamamura's made-up moveset shortly before the E3 reveal of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and since then I've thought of some updates to make to it based on what was revealed about the actual game... enough that I'm gonna have to bore everyone with another entry about it so I don't have to keep getting distracted thinking about the idea! Since the actual game comes out this week, now seems like the right time. :)
In the unlikely event that you're interested in reading this entry but haven't read the first one yet, I'd recommend reading that one first. Because in this entry I mostly only describe the changes I made, without repeating anything I decided to leave unchanged.

Well... it's September 4. So Sunday was the first anniversary of the day I was finally motivated - by a glitch LJ had for about three weeks where a lot of images were suddenly broken in entries - to finally get around to fixing the broken images AND everything else I wanted to fix in my entries on both LJ and DW.

It's no secret that I've fallen really far behind on my plan to backup some of my Miiverse posts on LJ/DW once a week. So I have an idea of how to get on a regular schedule that I'll have more motivation to stick to: start posting them once every two weeks instead of one, and act as if this had been my schedule all along starting from my first Miiverse backup entry - meaning the second Miiverse backup entry is now retroactively considered to be posted a week early (being one week after the first rather than two), the third one is retroactively considered to be two weeks early (being two weeks after the first instead of four), and so on.
As I've posted 23 Miiverse backup entries so far, that means the next one would get posted 23×2=46 weeks after the first, which would be the week of... December 12? So this means I'm now "still" caught up! :)
Do me a favor. The next time I consider doing some sort of regular feature on LJ or DW that requires me to upload new images or post entries with images in them once a week, please remind me about this and try to convince me to bring it down to once every two weeks...

Finally, now that the last Super Smash Bros. Direct is out, I'll give you another taste of just how weird it is in the mind of Matt1993:
If you're not into Super Smash Bros. or Super Mario Maker... and maybe even if you ARE into those games but aren't as obsessed with Mary O. as I am... then this entry will probably be of no interest to you and you should probably skip it unless you REALLY want to know what goes on inside my head. :P
Being the Nintendo nerd I am, ever since the first Super Smash Bros. I sometimes tried to imagine what it would be like if various characters (video game or otherwise) that weren't playable in any SSB games yet were.
But I don't think I've ever come up with a complete moveset for one until now. Usually all I think of is: - "What would Kirby look like if he copied this character?" - "What would this character's alternate costumes be?" - (for characters who aren't from a series that's already in the game) "What would this character's series symbol be?" - MAYBE a game mechanic that would be unique to that one character - MAYBE taunts and MAYBE special moves and a Final Smash.
And usually I don't write about or draw any of these ideas either - just think about it.
But lately, due to my constantly being obsessed with Mary O. (who unfortunately is still obscure enough that I feel like I have to link to that article again), I've been thinking more and more about what it'd be like if she and Yamamura were playable in Super Smash Bros. as a 2-in-1 character similar to Duck Hunt.
In fact I first thought of this idea at some point before April Fools' Day 2017 (see the music tag for that entry), but lately I've been thinking more and more about how this could work, enough that I think I have ideas for their entire hypothetical moveset by now.
And I keep thinking about said moveset so much that writing an entry about it is probably the only way I'm ever going to stop being so distracted thinking about it, even though I doubt it'd be interesting to anyone here (none of you are as obsessed with Mary O. as I am, and a lot of you probably aren't even into Super Smash Bros. enough for this to be of interest to you). So I'll LJ-cut it so I won't bore you. :)
It feels so weird that I've put all this thought into making an entire moveset and such for Mary O. & Yamamura for literally no reason since I doubt I'd be making a Super Smash Bros. fangame or hack anytime soon... and it feels especially weird to actually be typing out this ridiculous idea after spending so much time only thinking about it...
Well, now you know what goes on inside my head! :P

Oh wait, April Fools' Day is already pretty much over. That, and this "exclusive photo" might also just be an existing photo of Enya edited onto a Super Mario Maker background and with Mary O.'s clothes drawn over hers. Made by me. Because, again, my entry about Mary O. and Yamamura: The Movie was an April Fools prank. :P
Oh, and all those other things (Photobucket somehow taking down non-Photobucket userpics; my considering deleting this journal; my other journal being suspended; this site shutting down) were April Fools pranks too, even if you see this before I'm done changing the Photobucket placeholder userpics back to the normal ones (which I probably won't get done with all of tonight). So please, don't panic. Please. :)
I have to say, after over three years of trying to fix various broken images and other things in my journal, it was so surreal putting time and energy into breaking some of my images instead. :P
This is pretty much how it felt!
To those of you who've read any of these April Fools entries and still like me: Thank you for tolerating and putting up with the fact that I have such a weird sense of humor. Also thank you for putting up with my fanboying, if you read that one. :P
Even if you normally read my entries only on LJ or DW, I recommend making an exception here and reading both copies of each of my April Fools entries, because as part of the joke this year, I might have thrown my usual attempts at making my LJ and DW look nearly identical out the window for the day and deliberately introduced a few subtle differences between the versions of these entries... ;)
NOW I heard that LJ might be shut down at the end of the year??
Where am I supposed to move all my stuff to if that's true?! It's like today is Matt's Day Starts Out Amazing But Then Everything Goes Wrong At Once Day or something...
