While comments such as "I am Cynthia Gallery" might be accepted on a forum, Wikipedia has different rules, and failure to comply can come off as trolling even when done in good faith. If you aren't sure what to put on a talk page, you could always ask the teahouse or village pump. Also, you might not know this, but the first section of a talk page is actually the oldest, so next time try adding your comment in the last thread. Thank you! I don't quite understand what you are saying. Usually, moving or deleting others' comments is frowned upon, even if they are in the wrong section (unless there is some procedural reason to do so). It seems like you posted your comment twice, but I'll leave that alone.

While we always assume good faith, repeatedly adding incoherent comments can be considered disruptive, just to warn you. If you keep on doing this for a long enough time, you may be blocked from talk space (although you don't seem to be near that threshold right now). @Sohom Datta Oops, sometimes it isn't easy to tell where a deletion criterion applies. I couldn't tell how to delete it, and used the wrong criterion (although the pages were later speedily deleted for a different reason). Thank you for informing me; I'll look through the documentation or avoid deletion next time. Are PRODs allowed in "Wikipedia:" space? The correct way to deal with this would have been a report to WP:AIV and WP:G6 with a custom rationale. Also, no prods don't apply outside of article and file space. I would strongly suggest going through our policies on the various deletion criteria before attempting to mark pages for deletion and potentially erring on the side of not tagging if you are unsure for the time being. Sorry, I thought the general guideline on removing content was more wimportant, and was trying to remove an edit that removed content and changed facts. In the future, I'll be more careful relating to contentious topics. I was not trying to push a POV, and was simply trying to revert disruptive edits on Special:AbuseLog.

This is just a manual revert of multiple edits. If someone has made many successive edits to the same page, you click "history" and find the latest revision which they have not edited. You then edit that revision, which discards the changes made since then. Usually the software will mark those edits as reverted, but sometimes it can't tell if you reverted the edits. This edit, where you cited WP:DTTR as your rationale. If you want to slap me on the wrist for 'templating a regular', you're welcome to do so, but I provide notifications in part as a courtesy, and there's no policy or guideline that prohibits using a template to do so. In this case, I looked at their Talk page first and saw there'd been very little discussion on it, so using a template seemed like the most efficient way to deliver the message I needed to deliver rather than wasting time formulating my own version of text that would essentially say the same thing. Deleting it entirely solely because it was a templated messge rather than my own text is unwarranted. If the editor themselves disagrees with the template, they can engage with me as well, or delete the message on their own. I would also note that editing or removing other users' comments on other editors' Talk pages is generally frowned upon, and that that is a guideline: WP:USERTALKSTOP. In my opinion, warnings like this aren't really appropriate for what's clearly an error and something that was meant to be made on the talk page. Wikipedia's a confusing place and that's likely what they wanted—since it's not the first time this person has done this, a polite (not-templated!) note saying why what they did is wrong, and what to do instead, can be much more productive. And then I found a block evasion IP being reported on AIV, so I went over to revert its edits

Turns out, the evasion IP's edits largely involved constantly reverting edits by @SigillumVert

And then they falsely reported both of us to AIV after a back-and-forth

Ok, allow me to fix it

In addition I wrote the entire draft and did use AI as almost all people do in this age to perfect it, I see now it had a negative impact, please allow this to stay open as I correct it within 48 Hours so the contest allows the corrected Wikipedia article without any promotional parts to be written about! The AI research is incredible in Norway and I understand a lot of people dislike the AI hype, so I am a journalist vetting out bad and good companies, however I do understand your point of view and will fix this all promptly. Thank you. I will read a lot before posting it again, time is 02:15 AM in Norway now so I would appreciate a day or 2 to ensure this is 100% corrected. First off, "as all people do" is simply incorrect. Look at the articles created by experienced Wikipedians, and most will show no signs of AI. Also, no amount of cleanup can fix the fact that you have a conflict of interest relating to the article, and creating articles about your business is strongly discouraged. Your article has been deleted as unreviewed AI content, so please do not recreate it until you have written the entire article without AI or plagiarism. Frankly, I do not understand the reason behind the decision to exclude my contributions. I had decided to introduce some changes in the page precisely to adress, in a very construtive way, the problems mentioned in the alerts existing over that page. Thus I decided to write neutral and factual texts, replacing the current list of functions, also reducing some of them, that may be considered too exagerated for the real importance of the personality. I also tried to find references and notes, in English, extracted from reliable sources. Did I use any non acceptable source? I am not an expert in Wikipedia. Oops, @RA Noisiel: that was my mistake. I looked at the diff, and it showed cleanup tags being removed without explanation, but then of course AV reverted the whole series. It looks like you have already reverted back to your original revision, so there isn't really anything else you have to do. The way to restore a revision is to click the "history" tab, click "edit" on the revision, and click "Publish changes", which will revert it to that version. Your series of edits I reverted (there are 3) has several problems. The first edit appears to add a promotional video in the references that is not necessary as a reference, which is commonly considered link spam. The second edit violates WP:ELNO by adding a link to UsefulCharts' website in the article body, which is also generally frowned upon as linkspam. The third edit added unsourced promotional-sounding content. Even if you are not closely related to the subject, your edits were making the article non-neutral and required reversion. @John George III: I can see some potential problems relting to a COI, given you have contributed heavily to the article Draft:Mr. Beat, and you have stated that Mr. Beat collaborated with UserulCharts. However, even if you do not have a COI, neutral point of view is much more important than the reader's convenience. For this reason, unlike Google.com, we don't do ads or sponsored links, even if they are relevant. Ideally, links to a company's website should only be added to verify something the company said, and misuses will be reverted whether you have a conflict of interest or not. I think it may have suffered from unintentional citekill; I used several references that supported the assertions of the article and likely obscured the references that provided extensive coverage of J.W. @User:JSFarman2 resubmitting your draft is definitely acceptable, but usually one reviewer will try not to review the same article twice. Keeping references that support the text is fine, even if the coverage is marginal, so you can reinstate whichever ones were useful in adding verifiability. WP:CITEKILL is more for articles where too many references, redundant to each other, are placed in front of one statement, or the editor is adding unencyclopedic references such as loosely related topics and works by the subject. The text you had written also included losts of WP:WEASEL and WP:PEACOCK, ins phrases such as "viewed as a stronghold of identity that was a resisting force in urban renewal efforts", so it seemed reasonable to expect the material to be AI-generated as well. I am another person who has just experienced "rollbacks without edit summaries". I was going to continue adding some references and everything was set back to the original (including [citation needed]), with the labels "AntiVandal" and "Rollback" attached - what is going on? In addition I got an edit conflict when I tried to fix the references and add some more references. What's the rush?

AfC decline of Draft:Crow's Theatre

Hello, I saw your decline of this article via Wikiproject Theatre. I have made some small improvements to the sourcing, but I think you should take another look at the sourcing already there. This is a stub but notability is pretty clearly established. I think you are mistaken regarding routine and "tangential" coverage. The Star article on the opening of the theater is well beyond routine, and the coverage of the plays is not "tangential": this is a theater company, that is the core of their operations, which is generating significant coverage and for which they're winning major awards. Incorrect "problems relating to introduction as the host of SNL"

Please note: This person has never been the host of the show. She is the director of the show for the past five years. There is no mention of her hosting, which is a talent role. Appreciate the quick reply. I would like to better understand what constitutes sustained coverage vs. type of coverage. Looking at many pages from the List of female film and television directors, many have fewer credits, no notable accomplishments. Whereas Patrick directed over 2,000 episodes of the Ellen Show, and is only the second female director in SNL history.

@User:BadMachine12 Chances are that those directors meet WP:NDIRECTOR criteria 3, or played a major role in creating a notable set of works (obviously, SNL is one of those). I wasn't sure if Liz Patrick would pass that criterion, but I thought the article needed more non-interview sources and more sources seperate from that one incident. As it is, I think the article does indicate notability, so it should probably end up accepted this time around (although I can't review the same article twice). @User:Uhoj sorry about not responding. I had written a response, and closed my tab by mistake before hitting "Publish changes", although that's hardly an excuse. As for the g11, you were right that I didn't intend to mark it as spam. I was quickly G11-ing a lot of promotional drafts at Special:NewPages using a copy-pasted template, and copy-pasted it in even when what I meant was a G3. As for the draft itself, it could have gone both ways, so although vandalism was a possibility, I probably should not have tagged it to begin with, and I'll be more careful next time. What subject is the draft disparaging or threatening? What evidence is there that it's deliberately intended to obstruct or defeat the project's purpose? What policy says that an attack constitutes vandalism? I am concerned that you're definition of vandalism may be significantly different from the one that's generally agreed on. My submission for Andy Muller Jr's article of creation (AoC) was declined on 1/17/26 because of the page referencing more about the Reading and Northern Railroad rather than Mr. Muller himself. With respect, after multiple declines from other moderators who cited similar issues, I made sure that > 75% of my references were specific to Muller's interests - with or without the railroad. Allow me to provide my work...

References & Support

NOTE: The numbers I'm providing are the citations I used. Please refer to the page for continuity and to verify my claims.

2) This supported Muller's college education, coin collecting > entrepreneurial efforts, and teaching at a public school. (No mention of the railroad)

3) RBMN & Coal: In the article, it lists Muller's contributions as a driving force that allowed for the railroad to expand its export efforts.

4) Andy's award for "Most Influential Leader" (not the railroad itself).

5) Please see the awards and recognition section to support the introduction where the article focuses on a bridge project in Carbon County. This article directly names Muller as being the individual who spearheaded the project & coordinated the infrastructure. This is why the Regional of the Year was granted to RBMN. Not because of RBMN itself (this was a coordinated project with the state). RBMN was a beneficiary of the efforts FROM Muller's work behind the scenes.

6) Information about Andy's mother, additional support for coin collecting as a passion in his youth, and further support for his teaching background and college career. (No mention of the railroad)

7) Progression of his interests from coin collecting > establishing his coin business. This eventually evolved into precious metals trading. (No mention of the railroad)

8) Wildlife conservation for Red Creek Wildlife. He is listed as a primary donor for the establishment which supports another aspect of his personal life. (No mention of the railroad)

9) This Trains (magazine) write-up has a full history of the Reading & Northern. The first source is about the FNAF movie and not the actor, and the second is an interview, which doesn't qualify for notability. The other sources consist of two interviews, a list of Piper Rubio's advertisements, and this one which just might be notable. You rejected this article because it “appears to contain text generated by a large language model”. Now, this explanation is at least unfortunate and a sign of poor judgement because the draft is entirely written by humans and 0% LLMs! Not being able to recognize this simple fact is both an insult for the Wikipedia community and unfortunately for our entire species. The article was written following the guidelines of Wikipedia for being as neutral as possible, not nuanced and not promotional. The article was written by me, and me alone, after I interviewed current members of the ensemble. So, if you actually DO have any sort of meaningful feedback (and that means being specific about anything that seems bothering to you or anything that needs more elaboration), please feel free to share your thoughts and I will be happy to re-submit. Rejecting an article solely on the false and un-supported premise that is AI generated diminishes Wikipedia itself and all the brave volunteers that invest their time for the advancement of human knowledge. Finally, if you seem unable and incompetent to re-examine the draft, I kindly ask you to reassign the task to another reviewer. I'll give you some leeway for being a new user, but what you said is a clear personal attack. I have tagged hundreds of AI pages for deletion, and this one is no different from all the others. Take two sentences for example:

Hey Volunteer, we are actually the band BRIGHTBLACK MORNING LIGHT who sae our page was sloppy in a few places. To be exact if you read the reports nobody in our band or the Founder ever cited Carlos Castaneda or Allen Ginsberg as a influence or spoke of those 2 to a reporter & twas written at WIKI wrongly many years. Also past-tense is also not accurate portrayals. The LA TIMES quote: "Closest to the Earth" should be prominent & was never at the page until today.. we dont know how to link that article yet is very much a alive LA TIMES link. You will notice today we took away any 'past-tense' vocabulary because I am a Living Export, a Living Writer. If you can link this fact we'd be helped also: "invited to open for Queen of England favorite Folk Singer VASHTI BUNYAN 1st California showbill which was in 2006." Such a fact really is positive & truthful. Schloss Johannisberg

Hello Somepinkdude - The additions on Schloss Johannisberg made in January 2025 were adding texts based on translations from the German wikipedia page in Schloss Johannisberg relating the history and architecture. In addition, I also added new parts based texts in Dutch and German. The AI was then used to make sentences more fluently (and/ or translate from Dutch and German to English). The end result was fully reviewed by me so that it was reliable and supported by original sources. It does not contain hallucinations or false citations. Agree that I probably should have included that I incorporated translated texts from the German Wikipedia, which I did not mention. With reverting everything out, all this is now gone.

Also part of the "obvious ones" were written with hand as in my opinion this was a more factual description as it is a neoclassical palace and it is the first vineyard fully dedicated to Riesling - and the second part is also clearly referenced with source. Ipflo (talk) 08:17, 15 July 2026 (UTC)

@Somepinkdude: See below my proposal to update the introduction and history section of Schloss Johannisberg. The introduction no longer contains the phrasing you flagged, and nearly every sentence in the History section now carries a page-specific citation to either Staab/Seeliger/Schleicher (2001), Schloss Johannisberg: Neun Jahrhunderte Weinkultur am Rhein, or Struck (1977), Johannisberg im Rheingau. Both books are in my personal library, so I was able to verify each statement against the original text rather than relying on the German Wikipedia article alone. As said before, some of the original January 2025 content was based on the translation of the German Wikipedia article on Schloss Johannisberg. Could you please have a look on this proposal before I restore this to the article. Happy to adjust anything that is still unclear or under-sourced.

Schloss Johannisberg (German pronunciation: [ˈʃlɔs joˈhanɪsbɛʁk]) is a neoclassical palace and historic winery located in the village of Johannisberg, west of Wiesbaden in Hesse, within the Rheingau wine region of Germany. Originally founded as a Benedictine monastery, the estate was transformed into a Baroque palace and winery in the early 18th century under the ownership of the Prince-Abbots of Fulda.

In the early 19th century, the estate came into the ownership of Austrian diplomat Prince Klemens Wenzel von Metternich. It was bestowed upon him by Emperor Francis I in recognition of his role at the Congress of Vienna. The Metternich family owned and managed the estate’s winemaking for over 150 years.

Schloss Johannisberg considers itself the oldest Riesling vineyard in the world with a wine-making history over 900 years. The 50-hectare vineyard is known for its late-harvest wines (Spätlese) and ice wine (Eiswein).

The palace also serves as a cultural venue. It is a prominent location for the Rheingau Musik Festival, a role made possible by co-founder princess Tatiana von Metternich-Winneburg, who ensured the estate's continued contribution to the arts.

== History ==

===Beginnings and monastic winery===

Basilika St. Johannes

According to legend, the establishment of a vineyard on a mountain along the northern bank of the Rhine near Mainz dates back to the time of Charlemagne. From his palace in Ingelheim, Charlemagne is said to have observed that snow on Johannisberg melted earlier than on surrounding hills as spring arrived, inspiring the cultivation of vines on its slopes.

The earliest documented history of the area dates to 772, when lands in Geisenheim were donated to the Abbey of Fulda. In 817, the monks exchanged these holdings with Louis the Pious for lands in the Wetterau region. The contract explicitly mentioned the parcel's location along the Elsterbach stream, which runs at the foot of Johannisberg. By 983, Emperor Otto II had granted sovereignty over the western Rheingau to the Archbishops of Mainz, although the vineyard was already known by then as "Bischofsberg" ("Bishop's Mountain").

Around 1100, Archbishop Ruthard gifted the vineyard to the Benedictine monastery of St. Alban in Mainz. The monks were tasked with establishing a new monastic community on the site, which they dedicated to Saint John (Johannes). This foundation, and its subsequent naming, were associated with the tragic Rhineland massacres of 1096 (known in Hebrew as Gzerot Tatnó), which took place during the First Crusade on 27 May, the feast day of Pope John I. The monastery's establishment was regarded as an act of atonement by Archbishop Ruthard and his brother-in-law, Count Richolf of Rheingau, even from a Jewish perspective.

By the mid-12th century, the estate was first referred to as "Sankt Johannisberg" ("Saint John's Mountain"). Until 1130, Johannisberg functioned as a priory of St. Alban's Abbey. It was subsequently elevated to the status of an independent abbey by Adalbert of Saarbrücken. Around this time, a grand three-nave pillar basilica with nine bays and a prominent transept was constructed on the site, of which only its foundations remain today.

Johannisberger Klaus

For a time, the monastery at Johannisberg even oversaw a priory that would later develop into the Eberbach Abbey. In its early years, Kloster Johannisberg operated as a double monastery, with an adjoining women's hermitage. One such hermitage, the Saint George's Hermitage (German: Sankt-Georgsklause), was located at the foot of the mountain.</ref> First mentioned around 1170, it existed until 1452 and later lent its name to the present-day wine estate "Johannisberger Klaus." </ref>

===Decline of the monastery===

After an initial period of prosperity, the monastery experienced a gradual decline. In 1451, Cardinal Nicholas of Cusa lamented that "the monastery has decayed both internally and externally" due to "the disorderly lifestyle of the monks." However, the monks expressed a willingness to reform, on the condition that the hermitage and its associated estates be assigned to them to secure their livelihood. This request was granted, and in 1457, the convent joined the reform-oriented Bursfelde Congregation, ushering in a new period of revival.

The German Peasants' War of 1524/25 marked the beginning of the monastery's final decline, and the raid by Margrave Albert Alcibiades of Brandenburg-Kulmbach during the Margrave's War in 1552 ultimately ruined it. When the last abbot died in 1563, Archbishop Daniel Brendel von Homburg of Mainz decreed the dissolution of the monastery, and its properties were placed under secular administration.

In 1635, during the Thirty Years' War, Archbishop Anselm Casimir of Mainz was forced to pawn Johannisberg to cover the costs of the Swedish occupation of the Rheingau. Imperial Treasurer Hubert von Bleymann received all wine revenues as interest on a loan of 20,000 Reichsthaler he had provided. The debt was increased by 10,000 Reichsthaler in 1641, and the contract was later transferred to the creditor's descendants, Georg von Gise and his son Johann Heinrich. However, by the early 18th century, the family appears to have lost interest in Johannisberg. During the Thirty Years’ War and the period of the pawning, the monastic church suffered great damage.

===The Prince-Abbots of Fulda===

The prince-abbots created the first Riesling vineyard in the world in Johannisberg in 1720

In 1716, Archbishop Lothar Franz von Schönborn sold Johannisberg to the Prince-Abbot of Fulda, Konstantin von Buttlar, who spent a total of 75,392 gulden on the acquisition. He expanded the estate into his summer residence for an additional 148,000 gulden.

The dilapidated monaster buildings were demolished and the leading Mainz architects, Andrea Gallasini and Johann Kaspar Herwarthel, constructed a three-winged Baroque palace with a courtyard located to the north. Of this building, the two outer pavilions and the courtyard gate remain unchanged today. Within the palace grounds, the pressing house was given a central position. The Romanesque church was rebuilt and its interior was redesigned in a baroque style according to the plans of Johann Dientzenhofer.

In 1721, the impressive 260-meter-long vaulted cellar was completed. Significant investments were also made in the vineyards. The vineyard area grew from 14.3 to 18.9 hectares, with half of it newly planted. Almost exclusively Riesling was planted, with only a small portion reserved for the Orléans (grape) — then still dominant, for example, in the Rüdesheim hills — and Muscat (grape). For this reason, Schloss Johannisberg still considers itself the oldest Riesling vineyard in the world. The planting density at that time was significantly higher than today; in 1720 and 1721 alone, 293,950 vines were planted, which corresponds to at least 30,000 vines per hectare. By the second half of the 18th century, larger quantities of Johannisberger wine were being bottled—usually after ten years of barrel aging. Bottling took place in the cellar of the orangery at Fulda's city palace. This cellar, where the finest Johannisberger wines were stored, was overseen by the "secret cabinet," the private treasury of the Prince-Abbot or Prince-Bishop (from 1762 onward).

These "cabinet" wines were, by today's standards, selections of late-harvest or botrytized (noble rot) grapes, systematically produced by the Johannisberg estate starting in the last quarter of the 18th century. This tradition almost certainly began in 1775. That year, the courier responsible for delivering a sample of Johannisberg grapes to Fulda to obtain harvest permission was delayed by eight days. In the meantime, the grapes had been affected by Noble rot; nevertheless, wine was pressed from them. On 10 April 1776, administrator Johann Michael Engert remarked that he had never experienced such an excellent flavor. From that point forward, harvests were postponed as long as possible. The first wine officially labeled as a "cabinet" selection Auslese was likely produced at Schloss Johannisberg in 1779, with the first Ice wine following in 1858.

A monument in the courtyard of Schloss Johannisberg commemorates the "Spätlesereiter" (late-harvest rider). However, these were not the first wines made from noble rot-affected grapes. Such wines are documented as early as the 16th century, and in 1757 a "delicate wine" made from botrytized grapes was also pressed at Schloss Johannisberg.

The estate changed hands several times during the Napoleonic Wars: after the expropriation caused by the secularization in 1802, it became property of prince William V of Orange, the last Stadtholder of the Dutch Republic, who gave it to his son, hereditary prince William, who later became the first king of the Netherlands. But in 1806, he was expropriated as he refused to join the Confederation of the Rhine, and Napoleon granted the vineyard and palace to Marshal Kellermann, the first duke of Valmy.

When the excellent year of 1807 was followed by several poor vintages, the then-manager Adelaide Marco felt compelled to sell the 1811 vintage to the banker Peter Arnold Mumm from Frankfurt. This so-called "comet vintage" became the best of the entire century. Mumm, who had invested only 32,000 guilders in it, received over 150,000 guilders and was able to use the profit to establish his own winery in Johannisberg.

At the Congress of Vienna in 1814, it was decided that Johannisberg became Austrian, although the Rheingau became part of the Duchy of Nassau.

=== The Princes of Metternich ===

In 1816 the Austrian emperor Francis I, granted it to the Austrian Chancellor Klemens von Metternich, Prince von Metternich in exchange for an annual payment of one-tenth of the yield from the vineyards that were over twelve years old to the House of Habsburg. This tithe has survived all political upheavals to this day. Since 1945, it has been paid in cash, whereas previously, the barrels were allocated by lot. The current tithe beneficiary is Karl von Habsburg-Lothringen. Originally, the estate was intended to revert to the Habsburg family as a fideicommis upon the extinction of the princely Metternich-Winneburg line. However, this arrangement was abolished with the end of noble privileges in 1920. Austria only renounced its political sovereignty claims over Johannisberg in 1851, which resulted in back taxes being paid to the Nassau state treasury.

In 1826, the Prince of Metternich remodeled the main building of Schloss Johannisberg in a neoclassical style with help of Georg Moller, court architect of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. The reconstruction created a striking contrast: the earlier Baroque design emphasized verticality, whereas the later Neoclassical style shifted the focus to horizontal elements. Furthermore, prince Metternich had a park designed in the English style. Initially, the Frankfurt city gardener Sebastian Rinz was enlisted for this purpose; later plans were carried out by Heinrich Siesmayer, the creator of the Frankfurt botanical Palmengarten. Note that Schloss Johannisberg was not the main country seat of the princes of Metternich, as this were Kynžvart Castle and Plasy monastery in Bohemia.

==== Designs by Georg Moller ====

In the first half of the 19th century, Johannisberg became a destination for the emerging Rhine tourism; visitors enjoyed the famous wine right on the castle terrace. Even today, the wine bar remains in this location, surrounded by vine-covered pergolas, espaliered fig trees, and a chestnut-lined avenue. The German artist Carl Hemerlein from Mainz created a book of watercolor drawings depicting Schloss Johannisberg, which he prepared for Prince Metternich. This work is now in the Metternich collections at Kynžvart.

The library in Kynzvart Castle has a map with watercolor drawings by Carl Hemerlein from the 1840s. Professor Wolfram Siemann of LMU Munich published about these drawings in his biography on Prince Metternich.

Prince Metternich primarily resided in Vienna or on his Bohemian estates, spending only a few weeks each year at Johannisberg. This pattern continued with his successors, who also spent several weeks annually at the palace. The first successor was Klemens’ eldest son, the 3rd Prince, Richard von Metternich (1829–1895). As Richard only had daughters, the title passed to his half-brother, the 4rd Prince, Paul von Metternich (1834–1906), who was then succeeded by his son, the 5th Prince, Dr. Clemens Wenzel von Metternich (1869–1930).

The Metternich princes took a keen interest in managing the vineyard, aiming to enhance the quality and reputation of its bottled wines. Their efforts paid off, as Schloss Johannisberg's Riesling wines gained an outstanding reputation in the 19th century, becoming some of the most expensive wines in the world—often rivaling or surpassing the prices of their Bordeaux competitors. Additionally, the wines won numerous medals at international wine competitions in Paris, Philadelphia, and Vienna.

In December 1918, shortly after the end of the First World War, a misunderstanding arose following a demand from the occupying forces to surrender weapons. As a result, highly valuable, mostly oriental weapons from the 13th and 14th centuries—gifts from foreign rulers and part of the State Chancellor's collection—were handed over in a chest reinforced with iron bands. However, when all confiscated weapons were released on 18 August 1919, these items were no longer found. On 17 February 1923, the Weimar Republic assessed the compensation value for the lost weapons at 300,000 marks, although this amount was in the context of hyperinflation.

==== Paul Alfons and Tatiana von Metternich-Winneburg ====

In 1930, when the 5th prince died, Schloss Johannisberg and the Bohemian estates were inherited by his son, Paul Alfons von Metternich-Winneburg, the 6th prince. In 1940 in Berlin, where he belonged to a circle of opponents of the Nazi regime, he met his future wife Tatiana Vassiltschikov, who had a position in the foreign office. Tatiana was born a princess, but had to flee Russia with her family in 1919, following the Bolshevik October Revolution by joining a group of people who had been evacuated by the British fleet. The couple were married in Berlin-Grunewald on 6 September 1941. Initially, they lived at Kynžvart, but in 1945, they were forced to flee their estates in Western Bohemia due to the advancing Red Army. After the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia, the new Communist government confiscated the princely estates.

The princely couple sought refuge in the Rheingau. Three years before, in 1942, Schloss Johannisberg was heavily damaged during the air raids on Mainz. More than 300 bombs fell on and around, leaving the palace reduced to a shell. They first had to live in the housekeeper's flat. But determined to restore their new home, Prince Paul and Princess Tatiana embarked on a long and laborious reconstruction effort, which spanned nearly two decades, concluding in 1964. As part of the rebuilding, the roofs became more elevated than before the war. During the renovation, the princely couple also managed the winery. While the east wing of the palace was rebuilt, it was not restored as living quarters but was instead repurposed into an indoor tennis hall. In collaboration with Henkell & Söhnlein, part of the Oetker Group, the couple introduced the sparkling wine "Fürst von Metternich," which remains a notable product of the estate.

In 1974, the princely couple shared ownership of Schloss Johannisberg and the winery with the Oetker family, creating a partnership that ensured the estate's continued operation.

Prince Paul died in 1992, leaving no heirs, marking the extinction of the princely House of Metternich. However, the Metternich name endures through Franz Albrecht von Metternich-Sándor (1920–2009) and his descendants. Franz Albrecht's mother was a descendant of Klemens von Metternich, and he had been adopted by his aunt, Clementine von Metternich-Sandor (1870–1963), the daughter of Prince Richard. A significant portion of Paul's fortune was left to his mistress, which strained the financial position of Princess Tatiana. As a result, Tatiana was compelled to sell her remaining share of Schloss Johannisberg to the Oetker family. Despite the sale, she retained the right to reside on the estate until her death. In her later years, Princess Tatiana faced declining health but continued to live at the palace until her death.

=== Today ===

Schloss Johannisberg remains privately owned by the Oetker family and is not open to the public, except for special events. The estate is part of Henkell Freixenet, the wine and spirits arm of the Oetker Group. The vineyards cover approximately 35 hectares (86 acres), continuing the legacy of Riesling winemaking that has defined its history. Within the wine cellar is the so-called Bibliotheca Subterranea, which houses about 25,000 bottles of Riesling, of which most date back to the 19th century, although the oldest dates back to 1748.
