"animation is BUILT on plagiarism!"

so nick simmons ripped off a ton of manga art - including but not limited to bleach, death note, naruto, one piece, and lupin. if there's one good thing to come out of all the wank going on involving nick and his celebrity responsibility or whatever, it's that i now respect this goober even more than i already did:

oh gerard ♥ i still can't quit you, your band, or your comic series. i LOVED the umbrella academy, even when i put my history with mcr aside. at least he respects fellow artists too much to pull a stunt like this.

[edit:] also, i discovered rupaul's dragulator today.

i'm watching my chemical romance's episode of loaded on fuse and reliving college. rockthecliche and i have talked a few times about how ridiculous and awesome it would be if pete wentz bought out je, but gerard way running the company might be even better. the man has a flair for the dramatic and over-the-top, which would fit in pretty well with most of the je groups. a "tokei jikake no umbrella" pv directed by gerard? YES PLZ.

(also since i'm apparently re-discovering my old favorite bands today, i still love davey havok's voice. even if he's aging so tragically these days.)

one in a while, the real chance of love girls actually come up with something intelligent. take sassy: "what it all comes down to is are you a diamond or a pipe? pipes burst under pressure and diamonds are made under pressure." huh. i'm sure she didn't come up with that but i kind of like it.

oh my god this is the most half-assed photoshop job i've ever done but whatever. Collapse )

crack, crack, gallons of the stuff

i was talking to wainscotting last night about the tragedy that is je fanfic. there's some really fantastic writers out there, of course, but what really keeps me reading is a rare genre or plot. let's face it, most of fanfic is in the general area of romance and some sort of reality. i personally can only stomach so much of that. it's cute and all, but not really the sort of thing i'm interested in reading often.

as i started to look around to figure out what fics fit into my favorite uncommon classifications, i realized that i'm going to be reccing different fics from a handful of authors. it seems like if people are totally comfortable with writing an au or crackfic, they tend to be repeat offenders. so this is a small list, really.

i feel like a broken record on this subject, but i really think that inventive authors and their fics should be mentioned often. ohmiya cuddling in the green room before filming is well and good, but variety is the spice of life. throw in a little more cayanne! :D

i have too much money, obvs

boo, ashley and i just got back from the amazing fantasy sidewalk sale. i was really only planning on buying a few new ouran high school host club books to read on the plane in two weeks, but i ended up buying SO MUCH MORE. D:

i bought a really neat card game for my classroom! it's billed as go fish with impressionist artwork on the cards instead of a normal deck. impressionism is my favorite art movement, so it'll be fun to give the students more exposure to it.

a lot of the manga was on sale (but no ouran!) so i picked up the first nodame cantabile even though i've never seen the drama. but i've heard it's good, so hopefully the manga version is too? i also bought the first four issues of hana yori dango because they were only $2 each and i'm still trying to figure out why people love it so much. maybe the manga is better than the drama? hopefully?

after i bought all of that, i saw an umbrella academy shirt in my size for $7.00, so i gave boo the money and made her buy it for me because i didn't want to show up in line AGAIN. it's just got the umbrella logo on a fitted black tee, but i was pretty excited to buy it! gerard's comic cred aside, i really enjoyed the umbrella academy and the shirt's vague enough to wear without people going "ugh my chemical romance fan". another good buy!

all in all, i spent a little under $50. not a bad trip compared to previous sidewalk sales. at least i've got some things to casually read for a while. :)

tu tu lu!

i was at work until almost 4:30 today. oy. not only did i stay after and hour for modern dance, but then i talked to my mentor a bit about parent-teacher conferences, WHICH ARE MONDAY AND TUESDAY OMG. i wish i was only talking to super-good or super-bad kids' parents... the middle-of-the-road kids are the hardest to talk about.

i'm passing out candy with booie bear tomorrow! i'm not sure if i'm dressing up to do so, though i've got a really cute minnie mouse costume planned just in case. i knew those minnie mouse ear hair clips would come in handy someday!

move over video of mike carden dancing on his birthday and mcr playing d&d, this video clip of kat-tun putting on moustaches is my new happy place. i've been watching it on loop for two days now and i don't laugh any less than the first time i saw it. ahahahaha it's the best.

garage sale at the local nunnery!

it's that time again! the convent down the street was having their seasonal garage sale, so alyssa and i took a look around. i found a lot of jewelry, actually. the nun at the jewelry stand was trying to sell me much more than i wanted, that sly lady. my haul was pretty awesome, though.

after the nunnery, alyssa and i drove to nonna's for their famous quarter-pizza slice. i ate half of the slice and took the rest home for later. mmm nonna's. poor alyssa was not feeling good, so she slept in my back seat on the way home. i asked her if it was okay for us to listen to japanese music while she napped, and she replied with "okay, but i'd better hear some KAT-TUN!" and went to sleep.

she may have been mocking them, but i just love that she actually knew who they were. haha.

ahahaha what

my family is going to chinatown tomorrow! we're also going to see the glass exhibit as the museum of science and industry (there is no end to my love for dale chihuly, who has a full-room exhibit there. it's very exciting.) and to the alley try to get my top navel piercing re-pierced. the top barbell fell out a few months ago, and i'm sick of just having the bottom piercing to switch jewelry around in. so hopefully the scotts at the alley can fix me up.

so anyways, my family has little to no experience with chinatown. i've been to most places in chicago, but i've always skipped that area in favor of greektown. so i was researching restaurants in the area to see what would be a good place to eat.
