updating my resume i guess

can we talk about how difficult it is to properly photograph 3-d nail art? i've tried sunlight, ambient house-lighting, harsh bulbs, soft bulbs, and shade. i guess the only thing i haven't tried is a proper light box WHICH I'D RATHER NOT HAVE TO PURCHASE. :<

anyway, i'm teaching myself 3-d acrylic sculpting. it's something we didn't learn in class (and something my first salon was really terrible at) so once a set of 22 cnd acrylic colors practically fell into my lap, i figured it was time. day one and two of practice were pretty mediocre, but i sat down for a few hours today to really take it seriously and i think i'm definitely on my way!

it's not perfect yet, but it's only my third day, after all. i'm really quite pleased with the cat, even though he looks more like a tiger without stripes. cute though, right?

dot-dot-dot

i had my second etegami (絵手紙) class today. the woman who teaches the class (from her home! it's so cute.) was SUPER EXCITED to see me. she said that she was happy i returned to class (i couldn't make the last one) because i'm apparently pretty good at this stuff. haha.

the two sunflower paintings are from my first class, when i was still learning the rules of etegami. this week, i got the dot-dot-dot line method down, along with being patient enough to let a color dry before layering another one on top of it. the goya and peppers were today, and whenever i finished a card, the teacher was like "ahhh, i want to eat this! it looks delicious!" so cute.

the highlight of the day, by far, was when i wrote the words on my pepper card and megumi translated them to the teacher and the other woman who comes for classes. they went CRAZY for it. like, they were legit fawning over my word choice for a solid minute. they called me a poet. lol if only they knew that's going to be my one clever etegami ever. EVER.

also, she gave me two huge-ass goya from her garden. oh god i am going to be healthy as HELL. mmm.

tattoo thoughts

okay, so. i spent a little time sketching out what i want for my tattoo. i wanted simple, i knew i did, not only for the onsen factor but also for my personal preference. huge, intricate tattoos just aren't my thing. they're not really my thing for real artwork, either. so despite it taking me a good hour (and pages upon pages of my sketchbook) to figure out, i've got a nice, simple design.

so i'm not sure. that's the direction i'm going. thoughts? suggestions? also for ashley: can i have your friend's contact info? i'd like to at least start talking to him about an appointment.

OKAY IMPORTANT QUESTION BEFORE I GET TO MY ACTUAL POST: does anyone else have a macbook pro and use safari for their browser? i normally use firefox, but i've been logging into a few lj accounts lately (lol) at the same time, so i'm using safari as my second browser. BUT THE THING IS, SAFARI DOES NOT SEEM TO SUPPORT THREE-FINGER SCROLLING. you know, where you use three fingers on the trackpad to jump to the very top or very bottom of a page? does anyone know if i can turn that ON? i didn't realize how much i relied on it until it was gone. ;___;

but the main point of this post is to express my excitement about a new ~fashion item~ i bought yesterday. thanks to the morigirls community, i have learned about the wonders of konad stamping nail art. it's this really neat process that reminds me a lot of screen printing (and sort of is, i suppose) but in a tiny form. i bought $60 worth of plates, polish, and accessories, so imma gush a little bit.

this is my motivation to grow my nails out. i have short-ass nails during the school year because my job requires me to wash my hands every hour or so, which does not make for nice hands whatsoever. BUT OVER THE SUMMER I CAN DO WHAT I WANT. and there's so many awesome things to do with these stamp plates. i can see myself getting pretty obsessed. D:

has anyone used something like this before? i'm excited to talk about it and/or hear some tips!

it's a poke-day!

boo and i went to get our gamestop jirachis (is "jirachi" like "deer" and "sheep"? idk.) and she thoroughly embarrassed me by yelling things like "CHELE HURRY UP AND GET YOUR JIRACHI SO WE CAN GO HOME" and "HEY, THIS GIRL RIGHT HERE IS PLAYING POKEMON" and such. i love my sister, even when she does her best to make me hate her ♥

so in honor of that experience, i skipped ahead in my drawing request list and drew hers. i can do that. i'm an ~arteest~. so anyways, i tried a new way of coloring and WAY TOO MANY LAYERS, but i think it turned out kind of neat. in retrospect, it's a little too close to when i draw things in sho's ~style~ but i'll manage.

Collapse )

and for the rest of the requests: they're coming! i'm doing about a drawing a day because the tablet pen makes my hand hurt A LOT. ;___; but i'll get to them all, i promise!

i have a new favorite manga

... not like i've read that many. but if i had to choose, i would probably end up saying that my favorite manga is saint young men. i read it here since there's apparently no plans anywhere to license it in the states. WHICH IS A TRAGEDY BECAUSE IT'S HILARIOUS.

but anyways, it's not fully scanlated yet, but i'm sharing my favorite parts. the storyline is basically following jesus and buddha as they take a modern-day vacation down to earth and live in an apartment together. most of my comments are going to relate to the jesus jokes, but i'm sure the buddha jokes that went over my head were also just as hilarious. a knowledge of either religion (or both, of course) would be beneficial.

this is my life

i have an hour left until i leave to set up the art show, so i've been coloring the example i used for a fifth grade portrait project. the problem, of course, is that i was an idiot and chose to color with crayons. wax does not mix well. at all.

but i think it's turning out pretty well, all things considered. i didn't get a lolita-ish vibe until i started adding color, but the drawing seems to be taking a turn in that direction. idk how i feel about that.

my obsession has reached new heights

for those of you who don't know, i love moustaches. like, i legit ADORE when men have weird facial hair. i'm fascinated by the world beard and moustache championships, i get squealy when i see men on the street with a fine handlebar, and i apparently make stupid icons with awesome dudes and their beard-love. I OWN MOUSTACHE SOCKS.

so anyways. i downloaded 'stachetastic this morning and i've been playing with it ever since. and, of course, i started putting facial hair on arashi. i've done this with nino already, but the other guys needed to join the facial hair party.

this post is SO LATE

OH MY GOD JELL-O MAKES 60 CALORIE MOUSSE CUPS. this is seriously a highlight of my day.

i finally finished (and will be sending out tomorrow) the last of my holiday cards. yes, i am very very late, but at least it's only by a few weeks. it did remind me that i forgot to post some of the cards i sent out earlier! so here's four more, for those interested:

in other news, i am seriously considering buying these boots. they're so ridiculous but SO AMAZING. oh god i need to stop buying shoes and purses that i'll never use.

yaaay mail works!

a few people got my holiday cards today, so i can finally post photos of the ones that have already been received! all of the delivered cards so far have been in the next states over from me, so i'm hoping that it won't be too long for people in the rest of the states to get their cards. for canadian (and other countries) people, hopefully yours show up soon, too :)
