Snowflake Challenge 5: Wishlist
Jan. 9th, 2026 12:01 pmSnowflake Challenge 5: Wishlist
In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it and include a link to your wishlist if you feel comfortable doing so.
If you have wishes for transformative works of your own works or another's work, remember to include links to those sources in order to make it easier for people to create.
Be sure to check out other people's wishlists. Maybe someone will grant your wish! Maybe you will be inspired to grant a wish! If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.
This is one of my favorite challenges. It can be difficult for a lot of people to ask for things, so remember not to put too much pressure on yourself for coming up with the perfect wishlist! Your wishes could be something you're recently interested in or something you've wanted for a long time but were afraid to ask for or anything in between. There are no limits!

My Wishlist
* Dreamwidth points are always welcome, a great way to support our venue and all the fansquee it holds.
* Podfic of anything I've written. My transformative works policy is here and includes links to some places where you can find my work. If you post such a gift for me online, send me a link and I will gladly link to it so my other fans can see it too. (I have a bunch of vision-impaired followers who rely on podfics and screenreaders.)
* Fanart of anything I've written. Same parameters as above apply here too. If you like the Avengers, my biggest fanseries Love Is For Children has a list of photogenic scenes.
* I wrote a script involving Harley Quinn and unicorn food. I would love to see that turned into an actual comic.
* New participants in my Poetry Fishbowl. The theme call for the first half of 2026 is scheduled to open Monday 12. The advance announcement will go up on Tuesday, January 27; the next fishbowl will be on Tuesday, February 3 with a theme that hasn't been set yet; so watch for those posts. Trope prompts are fine for the theme call (e.g. Hurt/Comfort, Enemies to Friends/Lovers). Fannish prompts during individual fishbowls are okay because I can use those as freebies (as you'll see if you look at the Love Is For Children landing page). Here's an example from January 6.
* Are you into crowdfunding original works as well as fanfic?
crowdfunding is running the Rose and Bay Awards, and could use more nominations. Especially if you know of projects or patrons with more diversity than the increasingly dull and repetitive stuff oozing out of the mainstream publishers. Webcomics have their own category that includes paper comics; games typically go under Other Project; and both of those have a lot of fannish flavor. Bring me your weird, your queer, your huddled fen yearning to squee free.
* Poke a Bigot in the Eye. This activism method works for any offense, by promoting more of whatever's under attack. You can probably think of a bigot who deserves a few pokes with a sharp stick.
* Crystal window prisms, the kind hung to make rainbows. This is one of those rare gift categories where duplication doesn't matter because MOAR RAINBOWS.
* Jewelry shaped like an amplituhedron, probably a pendant.
* Recommendations for fanwork sites that don't require registration to view the content. My fandoms include The Avengers, Good Omens, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Lucifer, Magnificent 7, The Sentinel, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Teen Wolf, Tolkien, and The X-Men. Fanzines that are free to read, or download in PDF, are also welcome. I love longfic.
* I'm looking for folks who post Full Content on Dreamwidth, rather than just links to other platforms.
* Someone to make a regular habit of recommending individual blogs, fannish or otherwise, on
followfriday. I've been making lists of active communities, but there's no regular coverage of individuals, and we've got a ton of fanwriters and other bloggers out there who could use attention.
* Launch a community on Dreamwidth about a topic you love. Is there any topic that you already post about frequently? If that doesn't have a community, it's a good candidate, and won't make a lot of new work for you. I've been working to increase activity, hence
newcomers and
goals_on_dw.
birdfeeding is now three years old. Tell me about your new community and I'll boost the signal.
* Help newcomers get attached to Dreamwidth. Some folks already do this, but more would be better.
* Feedback is candy. I'm always looking for new readers. See my Serial Poetry page and Shared Worlds for free reads. Looking for inspiration? I'm also delighted to get new contributors to open-source fandoms: The Blueshift Troupers (exploratory space travel), Schrodinger's Heroes (quantum science fiction), and The Ursulan Cycle (genderbent King Arthur).
* Invent a new open-source fandom -- any fandom, on any topic you please, base framework with or without other content -- from scratch. Is there anything that makes you think, "I wish fandom had more X" ...? Invent a fandom all about X.
* Do a little something to fight climate change.
-- Grow a climate-resilient plant, or even a dryland garden.
-- Grow a landrace that you can adapt to your locale. Mine is the Shithouse Marigolds.
-- Plant a guild. This booklet has tree guilds, and this one has both tree guilds and herbaceous polycultures.
-- Try a new climate-resilient food. Our latest was pigeon peas, with an earthy flavor.
* Seed swapping. I am in central Illinois and I'm interested in native plants, landraces, and open-pollinated varieties. I grow herbs, some fruits, and flowers -- less with vegetables. I have one landrace doing quite well, the Shithouse Marigolds; I'm currently working on sunflowers and zinnias. I keep looking for wild blackberries but have yet to find a source.

Date: 2026-01-09 10:48 pm (UTC)Thank you!
>> I'm in a 5b/5a zone, <<
I'm in central Illinois. 50 years ago it was 5b, 30 years ago it was 6a, a few years ago it was right on the border of 6a/6b so it's likely just into 6b now. *sigh* Anyhow, I try to keep at least a zone colder and warmer for buffer when selecting things to grow. Most or all of what I've got should work for you.
>> so we could possibly do some seed swaps. <<
*SQUEE*
>> I might have a lead on wild blackberries! I won't know for a couple weeks, <<
Awesome. I'll take seeds; or if you can get plants, March-April is good for digging, shipping, and planting berrycanes. It doesn't take much -- a rootball and maybe 4-6" of the existing canes is what I get when I buy them.
>> but happy to talk plants and gardening any day.<<
Yeah, me too. My everyday post is birdfeeding and gardening. :D I have subscribed to you.
What kinds of things are you looking for? What's your general environment?
I've got a lot of different seeds. Marigolds, zinnias, sunflowers, garlic chives, common milkweed, an assortment of wildflowers. Mulberries but those won't fruit until summer; black walnuts but those need collecting in fall. One sycamore that I got some seedlings from last year, don't know if those survived the winter, but it means the seedballs can sprout.
Also ...

Date: 2026-01-09 09:11 pm (UTC)Yes, we use kitchen scraps in two ways, compost and regrow (garlic, onion bottoms, lettuce bottoms, carrot tops, beet tops.)
Thoughts
Date: 2026-01-09 09:38 pm (UTC)I've done vegetative regrowth before. Among my current projects is saving seeds from mature produce to see what I can get to sprout.

>> Unless you don't like moodboards. If you do, let me know which story I can read and do a board for you. <<
I love moodboards. Sometimes I use them as a stand-in for t-shirts when setting up character wardrobes, if I can't find suitable t-shirts.
As for stories, pretty much anything. I don't use AO3 anymore but I have my work in other places.
Love Is For Children (The Avengers) is my biggest fanseries and its first story would be a good bet.
Schrodinger's Heroes has a Crossovers page including Herolock and Schrodinger's Hulk. Again, first story of either is a logical choice.
My original poetic series are linked on the Serial Poetry page.
For something really colorful, there is "The Tie-Dye Tiger."
>> Thanks again for fulfilling my wishes. <<
You're welcome! This is one of my favorite challenges. I know most folks hate it, but I like granting wishes.

Date: 2026-01-11 01:14 am (UTC)This one is a moodboard, but I wasn't happy with it. I'm not used to working with art from the Avengers. I might do some more thinking on these. And I couldn't get a feel for the background.

I love that moody red background for them.
>>This one is a moodboard, but I wasn't happy with it. I'm not used to working with art from the Avengers. I might do some more thinking on these. And I couldn't get a feel for the background.<<
Well, the pictures and the quotes are great. I like the rainbow background but I'm not sure it fits the story or the art. Just keep exploring -- learning a new skill takes time. I'm happy to give you things to practice with.
It took me some fiddling to do the Nimona moodboard. Usually all I use that software for is making sets of T-shirts for characters, if I can't find something suitable.

Date: 2026-01-11 01:41 am (UTC)I love the "poke a bigot in the eye" method! I already do this subconsciously to an extent, but I'm gonna go ahead and leave lots of positive comments on explicitly trans fanworks~
Thank you!
Date: 2026-01-11 02:04 am (UTC):D It's an ideal way to fight back for people who aren't into street-level activism for whatever reason. Folks can make a donation to an asshole's hated group in his honor and there's nothing he can do about it.
