Maximus or Max is a character in the Fallout Television Series.

Background[edit]

Originally named Max[1], Maximus is from the New California Republic capital of Shady Sands and is the son of Joseph and Julia. When he was young, a caravaner under the control of a Black Box device brought a nuclear bomb to the city. Max was placed inside of a milk vending machine by his parents and survived the blast.[2] He was rescued afterward by Quintus of the Brotherhood of Steel wearing Power Armor.[3]

Since then, he was raised by the Brotherhood, living in barracks among other aspirants, forming a friendship with fellow aspirant Dane, and was bullied by Thaddeus.[4]

He eventually gets the rank of Squire after Aspirant Dane suffered a foot injury caused by a razor blade in their boot,[5] and becomes Knight Titus' squire.[6]

As an Aspirant of the Brotherhood of Steel, Maximus was trained in a variety of skills, such as identification of Pre-War devices and artifacts,[7] as well as combat skills.[8] As an Aspirant, Maximus wears a simple t-shirt with dog tags alongside military cargo pants and combat boots. As a Squire, he wears Brotherhood Fatigues and wearing Titus' former outfit, he wears a red Brotherhood of Steel uniform dubbed "The Knight's Red" by the High Cleric.[9]

S1E1 - The End

On the surface, at a Brotherhood of Steel base. A young Aspirant by the name of Maximus is in a fight with several other young men. Instigated by Thaddeus, one of his minons hits Maximus in the head, which brings him to the ground. After Thaddeus lands a final kick, the group disperses, and a bruised Maximus remains behind. After sitting himself upright, his friend Dane approaches and helps him up, and the two have a small chat.

They then proceed to a hangar, where they join other Aspirants in a lesson about pre-War technology, held by Cleric Felix. Maximus is promptly asked to identify a relic, but falsely identifies a circuit plan as one for a rotor, and is punished by a hit to the face with a ruler. Soon after, a shadow approaches on the side of the hangar, prompting the Aspirants to exit it. They then watch the landing of the Caswennan and several Vertibirds, which drop of a group of Knights in T-60 Power Armor. Meanwhile in a tent, a Scribe deciphers a radio call in order to create a mugshot of an upcoming target.

Later, Maximus is on latrine duty when he is approached by Dane, who convinces him to follow them. The two then head into a Power Armor workshop that is restricted to pilots and mechanics, where they admire a shining T-60 Power Armor. As Maximus touches the Brotherhood emblem on it, he has a short flashback from the time he was a young boy in Shady Sands and got saved by a Knight in Power Armor after the destruction of the city. Maximus and Dane get interrupted by Petty Officer Shortsight, and while Dane attempts to take the blame for two being in a restricted place, Shortsight requests Dane to follow him.

Maximus retreats to the barracks to get some rest, when his attention is drawn by a crowd in the distance, with Dane being the center of attention. When Maximus asks about what is going on, Dane tells him that they were chosen to become anointed, and that they will serve as Squire for Knight Titus during his trip to the Wilds. While the group around Dane moves on to celebrate, Maximus remains behind, jealous with anger - anger that later erupts as he destroys one of the latrines and starts screaming afterward.

The next morning, Maximus awakens from Dane's scream, and moves over to them immediately. As Dane removes their bloodied and cut-open foot from their left boot, Maximus picks up the boot and hands it to Petty Officer Shortsight, who spots a razor blade inside it. Maximus then gets detained, with a black hood put over his head, and brought to Elder Cleric Quintus, where Petty Officer Shortsight removes the black hood and leaves the room.

Quintus starts to point out everything the Brotherhood has done for Maximus and asks him to be truthful. He then asks Maximus why he joined the Brotherhood, to which he replies "To hurt the people that hurt me." Quintus then asks if Maximus knows who placed the razor blade in Dane's boot, to which he denies having any knowledge about. Quintus lets Maximus know that the other Aspirants suspect him to be responsible, and that he had a motive for doing it, as he is ambitious and was jealous of Dane's promotion. Maximus still denies any responsibility, but admits that he wanted it to happen, and asks Quintus if that is wrong, who then explains that it is wrong, that violence is merely a tool, and that violence against a Brother of Steel is a weakness. Quintus then asks Maximus if he is weak and if he has anything else to say in his defense. Maximus replies that he doesn't want to be weak, thanks Quintus for his guidance and for giving him a home, and states that he would gladly give his life for the Brotherhood to make it better, and that he would be grateful for the Brotherhood to give his life meaning.

Following the interrogation, Quintus orders Maximus to take over for Dane as Squire for Knight Titus. Maximus the goes to the sick bay, where Dane reassures him that their injury is not too bad, and that they will still be of use for the Brotherhood. Maximus asks them if they know who did it, to which Dane replies "I've narrowed it down to anyone of those assholes," referring to Thaddeus' group.

Maximus then becomes anointed as a Squire in a ceremony held by Cleric Felix, and under the watchful eye of Elder Cleric Quintus, Knight Titus brands a "T" in Maximus' neck with his heated up Power Armor glove. Afterward, everyone assembles outside, where Quintus holds a mission briefing for the Knights and their Squires: they are required to capture a relic in possession of a former member of the Enclave, powerful enough to destroy or save the Brotherhood, with each Knight present being assigned to search a different region of the Wilds. Petty Officer Shortsight then sends Thaddeus and his minion to hand out the previously deciphered mug shots of the target and his dog companion to each Squire.

The assembly then disperses, which the Knights and their Squires moving to their respective Vertibirds. Soon after, Maximus finds himself on board of a Vertibird, smiling with excitement.

S1E2 - The Target

Maximus accompanies Knight Titus on a mission to retrieve a scientist, Dr. Wilzig, identified as a high-priority target. The pair travel by Vertibird to a hazardous cave zone, but they are ambushed by a mutated Yao Guai. Titus is severely wounded in the encounter, and Maximus chooses to leave Titus to die, takes his T-60 Power Armor and proceeds with the mission alone.

As events converge in Filly, Wilzig also arrives in the town, pursued by a bounty hunter known only as The Ghoul. A violent confrontation ensues, during which the Ghoul shoots off Wilzig's foot. Maximus arrives mid-conflict, using his Brotherhood training and armor to fight off the Ghoul and aid Lucy.

Maximus uses a winch to haul his damaged Power Armor into a standing position on a Forklift, where he removes the component Cooper Howard had damaged during their fight. While inspecting it, the armor's communications activate, with Petty Officer Shortsight attempting to contact Knight Titus. Maximus answers, impersonating Titus while talking in a deeper voice. He is told by Shortsight that he missed his check-in, causing Maximus to respond as Titus that they were attacked by an abomination, resulting in Maximus' death. He specifies that Maximus died with honor and glory, before immediately punching himself in the head for saying it. Shortsight responds that they will get him a replacement squire right away, despite Maximus' protests. As Shortsight responds that it's not a problem as they have "plenty of squires", Maximus rips the communication system out of the helmet and stomps on it to destroy it. Sealing the armor, Maximus departs, taking the damaged component into Filly Downtown.

In downtown Filly, he approaches the Corner House, where he is told by the shop proprietor, Jamila, that she can repair the component, but it will cost him 5 caps. Maximus removes his boot, retrieving his money and finding himself one cap short. When asked if she could do the repair for four caps, Jamila looks the piece over, before denying the request. Maximus leaves the shop, before noticing the sign outside the Filly Dentist Barber which proclaims that they will buy teeth.

After taking the dentist up on their offer, Maximus returns a few caps richer and a few teeth poorer. He offers Jamila a tip if she can do the repair quickly. In response to this, she takes the component, performs one small weld, and hands it back, fully repaired. Maximus stares at her for a second before handing the cap over and departing.

Maximus returns to his armor to find a group of scavengers attempting to steal it. After throwing a rock at the back of the leader's head, he commands that they step away from the armor. The leader, Scavenger Tom, laughs before commanding the rest of the scavengers to "kick the shit out of him". After a brief scuffle, Maximus is overpowered by the group, with two of the scavengers holding him in place for Tom to beat while telling him "finder's keepers", before mockingly calling him "m'lord".

The group returns to the armor while Maximus lay bleeding, finally managing to open the armor. Standing up, Maximus equips himself with a pair of tongs and a toilet seat before preparing to confront the scavengers again. He ins intercepted first of the largest member of the group, who has put on his BoS Hood, quickly dispatching him with two strikes from the tongs. He then quickly takes down one of the other scavengers, but before he can deliver a second blow, he is grabbed and forced against the armor by Tom and another scavenger. As the scavenger beats Maximus, he manages to fit his arm into the armor and uses the armor's hand to grab and kill Tom. This causes the remaining scavenger to scream in fear before fleeing.

While Maximus is recovering from the beating, he notices the approach of a Brotherhood of Steel vertibird. He follows the vertibird back to downtown Filly, where he watches as it drops off Thaddeus, his former bully, now fellow squire. He runs back to his armor, pausing briefly to recover his hood from the still unconscious huge man, before getting in it right as Thaddeus arrives. Thaddeus drops to one knee, telling "Knight Titus" that he is his squire, and he is honored to be in his charge. Maximus wordlessly places his hand over Thaddeus, making him nervous and causing him to question if he had said something wrong. Thaddeus prostrates himself before Maximus, begging for his forgiveness for whatever he has done to offend. Maximus laughs to himself before relenting and telling Thaddeus to rise. He tells Thaddeus to clean his codpiece, tossing it to him in the same way Titus had done to him. While cleaning, Thaddeus relays a new message from Elder Cleric Quintus, stating that others in in search of the relic, and that whoever controls it, controls the wasteland, and they are to kill whoever stands in their way. The pair then departs Filly.

Los Angeles

Maximus watches from the ground as Thaddeus climbs a tree in search of apples. When Thaddeus says that he doesn't see any, he is instructed to climb higher. As he does, Thaddeus calls down that he thinks it is, in fact, not an apple tree, and also that he thinks it is dead. When Maximus tells him to keep looking, he responds that he will before a branch snaps, and he plummets from the tree, landing on his back. As he lies there groaning, Maximus laughs, before Thaddeus offers him his rations in place of an apple. Maximus responds that he isn't hungry anymore and tells Thaddeus to hurry up as they have an artifact to retrieve. Thaddeus suggests that they repair the armor's radio, with Maximus responding aggressively, saying he will find the artifact himself and jabbing his hand into Thaddeus' chest. Panicked, Thaddeus tells Maximus that he never underestimated his ability, before the pair departs.

As they walk, Thaddeus questions Maximus about his encounter with Wilzig in Filly. Maximus confirms that he saw Wilzig, and that he left with a girl. When questioned how they escaped, Maximus explains that he was waylaid by a ghoul. Thaddeus responds that ghouls are scary, and assumes that Maximus killed them, no questions asked. Maximus tells Thaddeus he didn't, and that if they find the ghoul, they'll find the target. Thaddeus questions leaving the ghoul alive, before Maximus turns to face him. Thaddeus tells Maximus it was a great idea, as they'll be able to follow the ghoul's radiation trail right to the target, with Maximus pretending that was his plan all along. Thaddeus retrieves a Radiation Detector from their supply bag, and the pair begin following Cooper's trail.

Soviet Satellite

Thaddeus and Maximus discover the decapitated body of Dr. Siggi Wilzig, leaning against a crashed Soviet Satellite. After confirming the body does, in fact, belong to Wilzig, Thaddeus questions whether they should bring it back to base with them. Maximus responds that if whoever killed him left the body, it must be worthless, and they must find his head. Thaddeus questions if it was the ghoul or the girl who cut off the head, with Maximus responding that it was clearly the ghoul. Thaddeus remarks that one day the Brotherhood will eradicate all ghouls, and things like "this" will never happen again. Noticing the trails in the sand, Maximus departs with Thaddeus following behind.

Los Angeles

Maximus kneels on the ground, inspecting a discarded package of Yum Yum Deviled Eggs. As he is kneeling, Thaddeus opens the back of his power armor helmet, apologizing to Maximus for neglecting his duties. Maximus stands, knocking Thaddeus away, and demands to know what he is doing. Thaddeus explains from the ground that he was attempting to refill Maximus' power armor's water bag. Maximus proceeds to sit and allow Thaddeus to refill the bag.

While working, Thaddeus questions Maximus about the things he's seen as a knight, before telling him about his upbringing working on a Fly Farm as a

Shitter. Thaddeus questions how Maximus supposedly died, causing Maximus to tell Thaddeus to say something about him. Thaddeus responds by saying Maximus was a "good guy", causing Maximus to tell him to say something negative about him. Thaddeus protests, saying it would be weird as he is dead, causing Maximus to respond that it is an order. Thaddeus tells him that in the past, he and his crew used to bully Maximus by beating him, explaining that he used to be beaten by the people at the base until Maximus arrived as a new recruit. He had the idea to bully Maximus to spare himself by redirecting people's aggression. He continues that this made him popular, but wishes that Maximus had lived long enough to find someone to bully himself, as it would only be fair. He finishes by saying that while he knows that people die in the wasteland all the time, he feels bad about Maximus' death. Maximus attempts to comfort him, telling him that he shouldn't feel bad, as he said, it's the law of the wasteland. The two then depart in pursuit of the Ghoul.

Hollywood Boulevard

Thaddeus and Maximus arrive at the flooded Las Vegas boulevard, and following the radiation trail, wade into the water as a nearby CX404 barks. While in the water, Thaddeus realizes that the trail they are following doesn't belong to the ghoul, but rather some other abomination. The pair are startled when a large shape rounds a corner in the water, creating a large wake as it barrels towards them. Maximus chastises Thaddeus for his mistake, causing Thaddeus to offer to lead the charge against whatever is approaching them. Maximus briefly recites a mantra to himself before ordering Thaddeus back to the shoreline and away from danger, which Thaddeus accepts, thanking him.

As Thaddeus retreats, Maximus opens fire with his T60 Pistol, before the abomination reaches them, leaping out of the water to reveal itself as a Gulper. Before it can attack him, it is shot from a distance by Thaddeus with Maximus' Assault Rifle, gaining the creature's attention. To his horror, this angers the gulper enough that it ignores Maximus and begins rushing for Thaddeus. The gulper catches the fleeing Thaddeus and begins attempting to eat him as he screams. Maximus rushes to his aid, attempting to pull him from the gulper's mouth as it tries to swallow him. Maximus plants his foot on the anchor hooked into the gulper's mouth (put there earlier by Cooper Howard's attempts to catch the creature), and pulls Thaddeus free while shouting "Ad Victorium". The effort kills the Gulper, causing it to vomit all over the pair as it dies. Thaddeus expresses surprise at Maximus saving him, with Maximus responding that he saved him first. Maximus then picks up a boot regurgitated by the gulper, which belonged to Lucy MacLean. The pair's attention is drawn to CX404 as she barks, and the pair realizes that the gulper has regurgitated the head of Dr. Siggi Wilzig, their quarry, causing them to begin celebrating.

S1E5 - The Past

The episode opens with Brotherhood of Steel soldiers Maximus and his squire Thaddeus camping together during their journey to return the severed head of Dr. Siggi Wilzig to Brotherhood leadership. During a discussion around the fire, Thaddeus requests to be officially branded into the Brotherhood of Steel. In a moment of remorse, Maximus admits his true identity to Thaddeus, revealing that that he falsely assumed the identity of Knight Titus. Thaddeus reacts violently and the two begin to fight. Maximum crushes Thaddeus' foot by stepping on it with power armor and in retaliation, Thaddeus removes the Fusion Core, trapping Maximus in the suit. Thaddeus limps away with with the dog CX404 and Wilzig's head.

Lucy MacLean continues her journey after escaping from the organ traffickers. Still recovering from her encounter with The Ghoul, she comes across the incapacitated Maximus. Lucy is suffering from radiation sickness and agrees to help free Maximus in exchange for RadAway, a drug that will cure her. Maximus, in an effort to preserve his cover, once again identifies himself as Knight Titus when Lucy introduces herself. Lucy is familiar with power armor from her education in the vault and frees Maximus shortly before passing out due to radiation poisoning. Maximus holds up his end of the deal and administers the RadAway. Once she recovers, the two decide to stash the power armor and travel together.

As the two journey through the wasteland, Lucy asks Maximus general questions about life above ground, wishing to learn more about the world beyond the vault. Their journey leads them to a narrow bridge where they encounter a pair of strangers on the other end. A tense standoff ensues despite Lucy's attempt to broker peace. Maximus manages to shoot and kill the couple, identifying them as cannibal fiends after the fact, but suffers a bullet wound in the process. Maximus tells Lucy he is not injured seriously and the two continue forward.

The pair come upon the ruins of Shady Sands, which was once the capital of the New California Republic, a post-War nation. Lucy was brought up to believe that Vault 33's efforts were the only way civilization could begin again on the surface, and is surprised to know nations had thrived previously without them. The city is now a crater, and Maximus revealed he survived the event that led to its destruction as a child.

During this exchange, Lucy realizes that Maximus is bleeding much more than he let on, and begins to search for medical supplies. They approach Hawthorne Medical Laboratories, and Lucy rushes in ahead of Maximus to find aid. They enter a door indicating medicine can be found there, but a trap door opens beneath them, dropping them down into the basement.

Lucy and Maximus wake up in a quarantine cell and find a window, revealing they are in a sterile, intact environment that Lucy recognizes as a vault. Lucy watches the community of Vault 4 going about their daily tasks and smiles, reassuring Maximus that they are safe now since they are in a vault.

S1E6 - The Trap

Lucy and Maximus, still impersonating Brotherhood of Steel Knight Titus, are released from quarantine in Vault 4 after Maximus receives medical attention from the vault's doctors. The pair are received warmly by the community, represented by Birdie. They join the general population, enjoy a meal, accommodations, and are introduced to Overseer Benjamin. Lucy and Maximus realize that some of the inhabitants have physical mutations such as having one eye or merged fingers. Birdie explains that the vault's population is a hybrid of original residents subjected to human experimentation and surface refugees who survived the destruction of Shady Sands.

Lucy is invited to a meeting with the refugee inhabitants that is revealed to be a ritualistic, cult-like devotional to a figure known as "the Flame Mother" later revealed to be Moldaver. Lucy begins to grow suspicious of the vault's secrecy concerning their past and current religious fervor. Maximus on the other hand is unbothered by this and quickly embraces the comforts of vault life, including clean facilities, water, food, amenities, and safety.

Lucy breaks the strict instructions not to visit the 12th level of the vault, where she discovers the former experiments into human experimentation. The scientists of the past, including Vault-Tec employees Lloyd and Cassandra Hawthorne, engaged in experimental human reproduction programs in an attempt to genetically encourage resistance to radiation but instead resulted in terrifying mutations. Lucy is discovered and apprehended.

S1E7 - The Radio

Lucy remains detained in Vault 4 as Overseer Benjamin and Birdie attempt to explain the vault's original inhabitants were the ones that conducted the unethical scientific experiments. The creatures that the experiments created ended up killing the scientists and the remaining subjects living in the vault took control of the facility. As punishment for accessing the forbidden level of the vault, Lucy is sentenced to banishment from the vault, which the Vault 4 inhabitants consider a death sentence due to exposure to the surface. Lucy is surprised that Overseer Benjamin is letting her go, but Maximus misunderstands the situation and steals the vault's Fusion Core for his power armor and attacks, believing Lucy is in danger. Maximus and Lucy flee and once on the surface, Lucy convinces a reluctant Maximus to return the Fusion Core, knowing it allows the vault to survive.

Thaddeus arrives at a remote KPSS Radio Station where he contacts the Brotherhood of Steel. Shortly thereafter, Lucy and Maximus also arrive. Realizing the Brotherhood will kill him for being a ghoul, Thaddeus hands over the head and flees. With the Brotherhood arrival imminent, Maximus hands the head over to Lucy and takes a decoy head to face the Brotherhood. Lucy and Maximus part ways, with Lucy taking the real head of Dr. Wilzig in order to continue her search for her father.

S1E8 - The Beginning

Maximus is retrieved by the Brotherhood of Steel and is taken to their base in newly-acquired Filly and is confronted by Elder Cleric Quintus. He presents the decoy head which is quickly discovered as a fraud, and Maximus' execution is ordered. In an attempt to save his own life, Maximus pleads and claims he can lead them to the real head, and his fellow soldier Dane begs for mercy on his behalf. Quintus is impressed by Dane's loyalty and spares Maximus' life, deciding instead to convinced Maximus to side with him in a restructuring of the order into a more dominant force.

Meanwhile, the Brotherhood mounts an assault on Moldaver's fortified position, wielding heavy weaponry and small arms against the observatory. Amidst the combat, Moldaver is mortally wounded but succeeds in activating a Cold Fusion device that restores power to Los Angeles. Lucy has a tearful conversation with her father and gives her mother a merciful death. Maximus arrives and is knocked out by Hank, who steals a dead Brotherhood soldier's power armor. The Ghoul fights through and arrives to confront Hank, finally being able to ask the former Vault-Tec executive the whereabouts of his family. Without answering, Hank flees. The Ghoul encourages Lucy to leave with him before the Brotherhood shows up, and she reluctantly leaves an unconscious Maximus.

Maximus awakens to see the world beyond the observatory lit up, and hears Moldaver's last words, asking him to stop the Brotherhood from abusing Cold Fusion. Dane and the rest of the Brotherhood soldiers arrive, giving him credit for killing Moldaver and acquiring Cold Fusion for the Brotherhood, promoting him to Knight. Lucy, the Ghoul, and CX404 are then seen heading towards New Vegas in attempt to find Hank and discover what happened to the Ghoul's family.

S2E2 - The Golden Rule

The Past

Shady Sands

In Shady Sands, the young Max walks through the town square, warmly greeting fellow city residents. He watches as a squad of soldiers march past with a Veteran Ranger alongside them. At his home, his father, Joseph, extracts water from the ground using a water pump. Testing the extracted water with a Geiger Counter, he finds that it lacks any rads at all[10]. Giving the water to his wife, Julia, Joseph celebrates the abundance of subterranean clean water. He remarks that this means they won't need to worry about rationing in the future, and that they will be able to grow more crops and have a second child[11].

At the edge of the city, a Farmer watches as a disheveled caravaner leads a Brahmin wagon past, repeating the phrase "Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter."[12] As the caravaner passes and begins approaching Shady Sands proper, the farmer returns to his drink.

In the city square, soldiers distribute materials as Max and Joseph walk to see what the caravan has brought to town. Arriving at the caravan, they discover a crowd of people surrounding the caravaner, who is now lying on the ground with blood leaking from his eyes, still repeating the phrase. Joseph discovers a Black Box affixed to the caravaner's neck, disturbing him and causing him to investigate the wagon. Pulling away a tarp, he reveals a nuclear bomb rigged with a Pip-Boy. Joseph shouts for everyone to run before turning to Max and telling him to return home[13].

As the crowd flees, Joseph begins attempting to disarm the device. After cutting a wire, Joseph briefly believes himself to have succeeded, but the Pip-Boy screen reveals that he has activated a fail-safe, beginning a 3-minute countdown. Joseph returns home, where he tells Max to get his kit and begins clearing out their refrigerator. When Max returns, Joseph instructs him to remain inside the fridge, telling him that someone will get him out[14]. He comforts Max, before placing him in the fridge. Joseph comforts Julia, telling her that they did good raising Max. Outside their window, the nuclear bomb detonates, destroying Shady Sands.

Present Day

Wasteland

Max, now known as Maximus, and a Knight of the Brotherhood of Steel, clears Feral Ghouls from a location alongside a fellow Knight. Busting into an office, they kill one more ghoul before retrieving a device sitting on a desk. Maximus orders his fellow knight to pack the item up and return to the Vertibird.

The group departs, flying via vertibird to rendezvous with the Caswennan. After they dock with the airship, Maximus is greeted by a large group of his fellows, who hail his arrival. On the ground below the ship, two Scribes walk through a playground in the middle of an empty desert, with one opening a rocket-shaped structure in the middle of the area. Inside is a control panel with a port for a Fusion Core, into which one is inserted by the scribes. Back on the Caswennan, Elder Cleric Quintus asks Maximus if they encountered much resistance, and Maximus exclaims that there were "abominations, nothing we couldn't handle"[15]. Maximus delivers the retrieved device to Elder Cleric Quintus, questioning what it is[16]. Quintus responds that it is "the key" to their new home, handing the device to a nearby squire who inserts it into a port on the airship. Quintus informs Maximus that the Brotherhood is scattered, broken into dozens of rival chapters[17]. He reveals that this new home gives them the ability to unify the chapters under one singular banner. The squire signals the scribes on the surface, who activate the control panel. Large fans rise out of the desert, blowing the dunes away and revealing Area 51. Quintus tells Maximus that together, they will "make better this fallen world", before calling him "my son" and walking away, causing Maximus to smile.

A Vertibird descends from the Caswennan, depositing a group of Brotherhood soldiers in front of one of the hangars. The group enters the hangar, revealing a vast array of artifacts. The brotherhood begins cataloging the items, with two Scribes opening a freezer to discover the preserved body of an Alien, which is promptly tipped out and broken as they marvel at the real working ice-box.

The Brotherhood continues to cataloge items, with an Aspirant delivering the Pip-Boy Prototype to a Cleric as another examines a shock baton. The Constitution of the United States sits on the ground, as a nearby aspirant attempts to open the Ark of the Covenant with a crowbar. Maximus walks through the warehouse, stopping briefly to tell a scribe to send a cryolator to the clerics for sorting. He then chastises Knights Gnatius and Riley for playing with a plasma grenade inside. The two knights discover a pristine pre-War car, and have it taken outside so they can blow it up with a minigun.

Inside, the Cold Fusion Diode is inserted into a console and powered up as Maximus observes. Dane approaches, standing beside a Young Squire who asks what the Brotherhood will use the Cold Fusion for, to which Dane responds, "Nothing Good."

Later, Maximus washes his face in a basin, attended by a Young Aspirant. The Aspirant asks him why he is doing it. Maximus tells him it is important, and informs him that part of their mission to fix the fallen world is to better themselves, which includes making sure they don't smell bad. Maximus dismisses the aspirant, who takes the basin and leaves. Turning to his power armor, Maximus begins cleaning it before being approached by Dane. They tell him that it is always going to get dirty again, to which Maximus replies with a quote from the Codex: "Better to polish dirty steel than have it stay clean." Dane reminds Maximus that they used to quote the Codex as a joke, to which he responds by informing Dane that based on what he has seen in the wasteland, the Brotherhood is the best there is, and he is doing what he can to improve it. When reminded of Lucy by Dane, Maximus responds that she left, and his duties keep him with the Brotherhood. Dane informs Maximus that they have read communications sent by Quintus, who has called a meeting of Brotherhood chapters without informing the Commonwealth chapter, and that by doing so he is breaking the chain of command. Dane warns Maximus that the Commonwealth won't allow Quintus to seize power without a war. Maximus responds by reaffirming his belief in the Brotherhood cause, as airships arrive bearing members of three other Brotherhood chapters.

Inside Area 51, Quintus hosts a meeting of the four Brotherhood of Steel chapters who answered his call, welcoming the Elders from Coronado, Yosemite, and the Grand Canyon. The Elders dine as members of every chapter stand at attention. The Elder from Coronado questions Quintus about the lack of a Commonwealth representative, saying that they should be there. Quintus responds by pointing out that if the Commonwealth were there, they would take the Cold Fusion Diode and leave them with nothing, asking if that is fair. The Elder from the Grand Canyon says it isn't fair, pointing out that it is taxation without representation and therefore un-American. Elder McRae of the Yosemite Chapter points out that Quintus' actions could lead to a civil war, to which the other elders respond that the Commonwealth would win. Quintus argues they could win if they stand together, especially if they use the power of Cold Fusion. In the audience, Dane motions to Maximus, showing him that Gnatius and Riley have returned to playing with the plasma grenade. Annoyed, Maximus moves through the crowd and takes the grenade away from them, causing Gnatius to sheepishly apologize.

The Elder meeting continues with Elder McRae pointing out the differences in their chapters, and that her chapter doesn't follow the religious system as Quintus'. The Coronado Elder tells her that in his chapter, women aren't allowed to talk, causing the Elder McRae to threaten him. The Grand Canyon Elder informs the group that the Commonwealth allows his chapter to govern itself, to which Coronado Elder responds that he just likes them because they let his chapter have sex with robots. The Grand Canyon elder objects, saying that it was "one Squire, and he was well within his rights." The pair continues to fight until Quintus begins loudly banging his cane on the table. Quintus stands as several squires wheel out crates full of fusion cores, which are given to the elders. When asked how many they can produce with the cold fusion, Quintus responds, "more than all of human history could ever consume." In light of this new development, the elders quickly agree to side with Quintus in exchange for infinite fusion cores.

In the hanger, the assembled Elders sit at an elevated table, watching as two Knights in power armor fistfight. A crowd encircles the combatants, cheering them on. Maximus watches disapprovingly, and as one Knight knocks the other out, turns to leave. He is stopped by a Knight from the Coronado Chapter, who asks him if he was the one to kill Lee Moldaver. When Maximus confirms this, the knight challenges him to a non-armored fight, to which Maximus hesitantly agrees at Quintus' urging.

The two enter the ring, with the knight attacking Maximus as he takes his coat off. Thrown to the ground, Maximus throws his coat in the knight's face, blinding him and allowing him to counterattack. The Knight then pulls a knife from his boot, and charges Maximus, with Quintus doing nothing to intervene. Maximus manages to turn the knife around on the knight, stabbing him in the stomach and knocking him to the ground. After a struggle, Maximus stabs the knight through the chest, killing him and winning the fight. As the rest of the chapters cheer, Maximus makes eye contact with Dane, who stares disapprovingly before turning to leave. Suddenly, the wind picks up, and a Vertibird lands inside the hanger, knocking down the banners of the assembled chapters. As the assembled onlookers watch, a man exits the vertibird, identifying himself as Paladin Xander Harkness, liaison from the Commonwealth. He reveals that the Commonwealth is aware of Quintus' plans for civil war, and quips that he must not have gotten his invitation to this meeting. As Xander is welcomed by Quintus, he notices the dead Knight on the ground and gives Maximus an approving nod.

As Maximus observes, Elder McRae meets with Elder Cleric Quintus. She tells Quintus that the Yosemite Chapter is withdrawing from his alliance, stating that she isn't interested in fighting a rebellion, especially now that Xander Harkness has arrived from The Commonwealth. Quintus tells her that the Brotherhood was built on rebellion, and begins to tell her the story of Roger Maxson, and the Mariposa Mutiny. Quintus speaks of Roger betraying the United States Government in favor of God, whom he believed the government betrayed through their experiments at the Mariposa Military Base. The Elder from Yosemite reiterates to Quintus that her chapter doesn't take the same religious angle as the Knights of San Fernando, and tells him to give the Cold Fusion Diode to the Commonwealth, before leaving.

Maximus offers to murder Harkness for Quintus, who rebukes the offer. He tells Maximus that now that the alliance has broken down, they have no hope of defeating the Commonwealth and that killing Harkness would start a war they could not possibly win. When Maximus begins to say that they could win if their cause is just, Quintus interrupts him by stating that he has no need for the thoughts of a sword, before dismissing Maximus.

Outside the Area 51 hangers, Maximus is approached by Xander Harkness. Harkness observes that his arrival "seems to have put a damper on the conversation", stating that the clerics won't even look at him. Harkness points out that the Knights of San Fernando have a lot of clerics, and mentions that the clerics in the Commonwealth are not in charge like they are here. He then tells Maximus that the Knights of San Fernando "sucks".

Maximus tells Harkness that he shouldn't be talking to him, as it violates the Chain That Binds. Harkness praises him, saying that he is a real soldier, and proceeds to tell him that Quintus is going to make a mistake. He elaborates that the Brotherhood is a bulwark against chaos, chaos which Quintus' civil war will bring. Harkness tells Maximus that back in the Commonwealth, it's soldiers like them who are in command, and that the clerics do nothing but stand around and give speeches while the soldiers bleed. When Maximus asks what he can do about it, Harkness tells him to just talk to him.

Xander tells Maximus that this is not the first time that the Brotherhood of Steel has been on the brink of civil war, and says that if the soldiers figure something out, cooler heads could prevail. Maximus agrees to talk to Xander, with Xander responding "hot dog".

Approaching a vertibird, Maximus tells Xander to stop, as they need a pilot. Xander asks why they would let someone else have all the fun, telling Maximus that he doesn't need his armor as he has a spare. Maximus questions that the Commonwealth lets him have a spare suit of power armor as he boards the vertibird.

While Xander flies, Maximus inspects his armor, complimenting him on the Motion-Assist Servos. Maximus then sits in the co-pilot's seat as Xander tells him that he doesn't know any of the technicalities; he just knows how to use the armor to fight well. Xander questions if Maximus has ever flown a vertibird before, and offers to let him fly, which Maximus declines. Xander asks Maximus if he can be honest with him, and when Maximus agrees, Xander points out that if Quintus does not give him the Relic, they will soon be on opposite sides of a conflict. He tells Maximus that if he returns home with the relic, there will be no bloodshed.

Xander tells Maximus that things are going poorly for the Brotherhood back in the Commonwealth and that without the Cold Fusion device, they risk losing control of the region. He elaborates that if the Commonwealth falls, civilization as a whole would fall not long after. Xander tells him that, despite how bad things look on the West Coast, things could always be worse, and asks him to consider his offer. As the pair fly north past HELIOS One, an alarm signals in the Vertibird, indicating an unauthorized robot presence. Xander hypes up Maximus, telling him that as members of the Brotherhood of Steel, they keep the wasteland safe, and this is what they do. The pair fist-bump as they fly towards the signal.

As Xander and Harkness enter the building, Xander takes the lead with a smile. A noise rings out, causing Xander to stop and ordering Maximus to do the same. From around a corner, the garbled sound of a glitching robot is heard arguing with itself. As they watch, an Extremely Broken Securitron rounds the corner, with its face alternating between that of a Damaged Securitron and a Securitron Mk II. Its face settles on a standby screen as it opens fire with its Submachine Gun.

Laughing, Xander charges the Securitron with his Super Sledge. He fights the robot, laughing and insulting it all the while. After he deflects a grenade fired from its G-28 grenade launching system with his pauldron, he cheers and smashes its grenade launcher from its arm. Maximus enters the room, asking if he is ok, with Xander responding by asking if he wants to help fight. Maximus happily opens fire while insulting the robot. He then charges across the room, punching through the Securitron's screen and pulling out its Fusion Core. The pair celebrate as the Securitron falls broken. The pair hears the sound of a bottle breaking, and go to investigate, but not before Xander hands his Super Sledge over to Maximus to try.

Xander and Maximus enter the facility's factory floor and see an empty bottle of Sunset Sarsaparilla spinning on the floor. Xander notices some feet peeking out from under the conveyor belt, and orders the owner to stand. Perry stands up, causing Maximus to begin remarking quietly, "Oh no". Xander raises the visor on his helmet, musing on the "baby abomination". He turns to Maximus and tells him that there are likely more ghouls nearby, before calling out for the rest to show themselves.

The children begin coming out of their hiding spots and gather in front of Harkness. Xander remarks, "jackpot" as Maximus attempts to comfort the children by telling them that they're all ok. Xander splits the children into two groups, with non-mutated children going behind a table and mutated children staying in front of him. As Xander tells the non-mutated children to close their eyes, Maximus begs him to stop what he's doing.

As Xander prepares to fire, Thaddeus interrupts him, climbing out from under the conveyor belt. Identifying himself as the manager, he asks Xander not to kill anyone, as they are just children. Xander tells him that they aren't children; they are abominations like him. He closes his visor and prepares to fire as Maximus begs him to stop. Xander tells him that the Codex is clear, with Maximus responding "fuck the codex!" As Xander begins to pull the trigger, Maximus slams his own super sledge into the top of his head, crumpling his helmet and killing him instantly.

After Xander collapses to the floor, hammer still embedded in his helmet, Maximus raises the visor on his helmet to reveal himself to Thaddeus. Confused, Thaddues greets him and asks what he has been up to. Maximus responds by stating that he thinks he just started a war. Thaddeus tells him that he is now the floor manager of this factory, so they both have a lot going on, which Maximus agrees to.

S2E4 - The Demon in the Snow

As the body of Xander Harkness lies on the floor, Thaddeus tells Maximus that they should get back to work. Suddenly, the building is shaken by the approach of a Vertibird, with Maximus realizing that the Knights of San Fernando tracked his and Harkness' flight. Thaddeus grabs a bucket and begins packing his caps, telling Maximus that he has to go. Maximus exits his armor, insisting that Thaddeus needs to return with him to Area 51. He tells Thaddeus that he needs to pretend to be Xander to prevent the Brotherhood from finding out that he is dead. Thaddeus points out the Brotherhood's policy against ghouls, which he is, with Maximus responding that if the Brotherhood enters the building, they'll kill all the ghoul children and recruit the non-mutated ones. Thaddeus tells him that he is correct, but emphasizes that he is, in fact, great at running away. Maximus tells him that sometimes running away isn't the best plan, with Thaddeus responding that it sucks, which Maximus agrees to.

Outside the building, Knight Gnatius looks around before his attention is drawn to Maximus exiting the main building. He tells him that Elder Cleric Quintus is angry that the two left without a word, calling him "golden boy". Maximus lies, telling him that their Vertibird broke down, with Gnatius dismissing it and asking where Xander is. Thaddeus, now wearing power armor, attempts to exit the building behind Maximus, repeatedly slamming into the doorway before eventually turning sideways and squeezing out the door. As Thaddeus passes the pair, he orders them at ease before continuing past to the Vertibird. The Vertibird takes off from the Sunset Sarsaparilla Headquarters, flying back towards Area 51.

Maximus enters the base's meeting room to find Quintus speaking with some clerics. Quintus dismisses the clerics before asking Maximus what he did. Maximus admits he killed Harkness and draws a Laser Pistol, causing Quintus to deduce that Maximus intends to kill him.

As Maximus holds him at gunpoint, Quintus tells him that he was the one who found him in the ruins of Shady Sands. He continues that if Maximus kills him, the world will continue in anarchy, and that he is going to bring order to it.

Quintus approaches Maximus, asking him what his plan is once he kills him. Maximus admits he has no plan, stating that in the wasteland, you can't have a plan. He says he doesn't choose to do the things he does; they just happen. Quintus, calling Maximus his son, asks him what happened, with Maximus revealing that he killed Xander because he was going to kill children. Quintus does not respond, staring at Maximus, until he continues and reveals that the children were ghouls. Quintus' face shifts as he responds, "What? No." As Maximus attempts to defend his actions, Quintus begins shouting that they were abominations to be exterminated. He tells Maximus that he should never have shown him mercy. Opening a drawer, he pulls out a 10mm Pistol and opens fire on Maximus, who ducks out of the way while returning fire.

Maximus and Quintus continue firing at each other as Maximus flees the room, chaining the door shut behind him as Quintus screams that he is a heretic. As Maximus exits, he witnesses the growing battle and is approached by Dane. He apologizes to them, saying that he couldn't kill Quintus, with Dane responding that he never should apologize for not killing someone. Dane hands him the Cold Fusion Diode which they had taken, instructing him to take it as far from the Brotherhood as possible. After the two embrace, Dane assures him that they'll survive. Thaddeus approaches them, shouting and asking if they can leave now. The pair exits the building, leaving Dane behind.

As Thaddeus and Maximus flee the battle, the Brotherhood airships fire upon each other, resulting in The Caswennan crashing and exploding into the ground.

S2E6 - The Other Player

In the desert near Area 51, Maximus sits on the sand looking at the Cold Fusion Diode in his possession while Thaddeus exits his Power Armor. In the distance, gunshots ring out as the Brotherhood of Steel chapters continue fighting at the base. Thaddeus questions if Maximus is sure they have to leave the armor behind, with Maximus responding that the Brotherhood has trackers in it, and would use it to find them.

Thaddeus sits beside Maximus, commenting that if the diode isn't a "sacred remnant," he doesn't know what is. He then questions if they are going to sell the diode, which Maximus strongly denies. The pair departs, with Thaddeus stating that they should put out feelers and make a trade with it, with Maximus continuing to say no.

Later on, the pair sits around a campfire at night, while Thaddeus insists that they should sell the diode. Maximus responds that they will give it to the "right person", someone he says is good. Thaddeus questions him, asking him to name a good person, with Maximus responding that the girl he met was a good person. Thaddeus states that it would be easy to be a good person if one had grown up in a safe vault full of food and supplies, remarking that if that were the case, he wouldn't be a ghoul. He comments that if they sell the diode, they'll have enough money to be good people.

Thaddeus states that he has seen a lot in his life, but not a good person. Maximus asks Thaddeus where he was born, with him responding that he was born on the Shithole side of the Boneyard. Maximus responds that he must be the lucky one, as he recalls good people growing up in Shady Sands. Thaddeus jokes that if he's the lucky one, they're both screwed.

Maximus and Thaddeus sleep around their campfire as it begins to die. The sound of heavy breathing and rustling is heard before the pair is awoken by the arrival of a barking Dogmeat, who is still in the possession of Cooper's hat. Recognizing her, they follow her to the Mojave Mission School, where they find Cooper Howard lying injured in a building.

Cooper Howard and CX404 lead Maximus and Thaddeus into an abandoned NCR outpost. Thaddeus approaches Cooper and begins attempting to connect with him over their shared experience of being ghouls. After Cooper declines to respond, Thaddeus falls back to walk alongside Maximus again, questioning him on whether he fought Cooper. Maximus confirms this, but states that he was in his Power Armor at the time. Thaddeus points out that Power Armor is hard to operate, recollecting a time in the Area 51 mess hall when he tried to pick up a cup.

Thaddeus asks Maximus if he is sure that they should be following Cooper, with Maximus responding that Cooper said he would take them to Lucy. Maximus then loudly questions Cooper, asking where they are going. When Cooper responds that they're going to the Lucky 38, Thaddeus points out that Vegas is in the opposite direction. Cooper explains that to get to Lucy, they're going to need to fight their way through the Deathclaws on the New Vegas Strip, and that to do this, they are going to need better armaments. When Max asks if that means Lucy is in New Vegas, Cooper mentions that he understands why they got along so well, as they both ask a lot of questions. Cooper then tells Maximus he has a question for him. Turning and drawing his pistol, Cooper demands to know how Maximus has the Cold Fusion Diode. As Thaddeus attempts to de-escalate the situation, Cooper demands to see the diode, with Maximus revealing it. Maximus tells Cooper that he intends to give the diode to Lucy, as she is a good person. Satisfied with this answer, Cooper holsters his gun and resumes walking with a smile.

Cooper Howard enters an abandoned NCR armory, followed by Maximus and Thaddeus. The trio finds a large arsenal of weapons and immediately begins arming themselves. As Cooper finds a Gauss Rifle, Thaddeus approaches him and again begins attempting to connect about both being ghouls, mentioning that the worst thing is waiting for his nose to fall off. He then shows Cooper a small mouth growing on his collar, asking if it is normal. Cooper looks at the mouth, surprised, before looking back at Thaddeus' face and turning away without a word.

Maximus asks Cooper why he is helping them, with Cooper responding that it is transactional, as he expects the Cold Fusion Diode in exchange for the help and equipment. Cooper tells him that in order to save Lucy, he is going to have to give the diode to a really bad person. Cooper tells the pair that in his life, he has only ever seen one man come out on top in Vegas, and he did so by rigging the game, which they must now do. As he says this, he cuts a rope, causing a curtain to drop and reveal a set of NCR Power Armor.

Maximus and Thaddeus approach the armor, with Maximus reaching out to wipe cobwebs away from the armor's chest plate. As Maximus begins to tear up, he says to Cooper, "You always end up back where you started", handing him the diode. As Cooper walks away, Maximus continues looking at the armor.

Freeside

As the people of Freeside go about their daily lives, loud mechanical footsteps begin to be heard, and individuals begin to look towards the intersection near the Silver Rush. Maximus, now wearing the suit of NCR Power Armor, turns onto Fremont Street, flanked by Thaddeus and Cooper Howard, who is carrying the Gauss Rifle he found in the armory. As they begin walking towards the New Vegas Strip, the people of Freeside realize what their intentions are and begin walking with them. When Thaddeus questions why the people are looking at them, Cooper tells him not to underestimate the power of "brand recognition", with the people recognizing the armor as that of the New California Republic. As they walk, Maximus sees a young boy who resembles himself when he was young, looking at him, smiling, causing him to smile in return. As the trio continues down the street, a man shouts "Long live the New California Republic", causing a flurry of cheers and another man to welcome them back. An older man shouts for them to kill the Deathclaws, while a woman implores them to give the people back their town. As they approach the intersection, an old man removes his hat, bowing respectfully to the group.

Stopping in sight of The Strip North Gate, Maximus questions if Lucy is on the other side, which Cooper confirms. Cooper informs Maximus that once they enter the strip, they need to be fast, and that the strip gate is only about 50 yards from the steps of the Lucky 38. He begins to instruct Thaddeus to take his rifle up to the roof to give them sniper support, but is interrupted by Thaddeus' right arm falling off. The group is caught off guard, with Thaddeus saying he is having a "medical episode." Changing plans, Maximus instructs Thaddeus to hang back, as he and Cooper proceed towards the gate.

New Vegas Strip

Maximus and Cooper enter the New Vegas Strip, where they witness a Deathclaw engaging in Cannibalism. Cooper instructs Maximus to get between him and the Deathclaws as he makes his way to the Lucky 38. After a standoff, Maximus and the Deathclaw rush each other, clashing in the middle of the Strip. As Maximus begins fist-fighting the creature, Cooper makes his way towards the Lucky 38. The Deathclaw knocks Maximus into a car, where one of the arm-blades on his power armor gets stuck.

The Deathclaw begins approaching Cooper, who fires into it using his Gauss rifle, blowing a hole through its ribs. The Deathclaw continues forward, taking another gauss round to the neck. Before it can attack Cooper, Maximus, who had ripped the door off the car he was stuck to, grabs it by the head and almost decapitates it with his arm blades. Relieved, Cooper tips his hat to Maximus before turning to enter the Lucky 38. As he does, Maximus rushes to combat the remaining Deathclaws.

After a brief scuffle with the second claw, Maximus is tail-whipped back through The Strip North Gate. Maximus sits up to see that the gate has been destroyed, and he must now prevent the Deathclaws from entering Freeside.

Freeside

As the people of Freeside watch on in horror, a deathclaw takes its first steps through the destroyed Strip North Gate. Thaddeus and Maximus instruct the citizens to keep their distance before the deathclaw roars, sending them fleeing. The two instruct the citizens to run and hide inside the buildings, with Thaddeus corralling them further down Fremont Street. As Maximus prepares to battle the deathclaws, his armor informs him that its weapons are activated, which causes him to smile and exclaim "hot dog".

His armor fires several missiles from its back-mounted rocket pods, killing one deathclaw and staggering a second. Thaddeus ushers several civilians into Sonny's Sundries, before turning and closing the door. The citizens gather around the windows, looking out as Maximus battles the creatures. Using the suit's thrusters, he propels himself into the air before firing into a charging deathclaw with the suits arm mounted rocket launcher, killing it. He lands and engages a new one in close-quarters combat, taking a slash across his chestpiece in the process. Inside the store, Thaddeus laments his inability to help, with Shotgun Jeff questioning what he would do with only one arm. Thaddeus insists that someone has to help him, with Jeff responding, "Nah".

Inside the Strip, six more deathclaws approach the gate.

Maximus continues fighting the deathclaws, slicing one's arm off before flinging it through the door of the King's School of Impersonation. The now armless deathclaw counters by grabbing Maximus and biting down on his helmet. In response, Maximus fires another rocket from the suit's back-mounted missile pod, blowing off half of the deathclaw's head.

As another deathclaw approaches, Maximus fires the last of his arm-mounted rockets, missing. As he engages the creature in melee combat, the Freeside inhabitants taking shelter in Sonny's Sundries begin betting against him, with Shotgun Jeff betting that he would die within the next five minutes. Another man counters by betting it would happen in three. A croupier begins taking bets as more pour in. Thaddeus steps forward, demanding everyone's attention by slamming his arm onto the ground. He proceeds to bet five hundred caps on Maximus winning the fight. When Shotgun Jeff states that he doesn't have that kind of money, Thaddeus ruffles his pant leg, causing a large amount of caps to fall out of his pants. He tells them to count it, as he used to make money for a living.

As Maximus battles the deathclaws, the Freeside Croupier points out that if he loses, they will assuredly be killed by the deathclaws, with the citizens declaring their intent to keep gambling.

Outside, Maximus shoves a metal beam through the chest of an attacking deathclaw, before engaging another in melee. After a clash, his armor's left pauldron is destroyed. As the deathclaw charges again, it is suddenly staggered by a shot from a nearby rooftop. Maximus looks up, to see Thaddeus atop the Atomic Wrangler Casino, firing down with his rifle propped between his toes. He gives Maximus a thumbs up, who returns the gesture and thanks him.

Maximus is once again attacked by the deathclaw, who throws him to the ground and begins mauling him. Thaddeus struggles one handed with his rifle, stating that he has to reload.

Later, Maximus lies on the ground next to a slain deathclaw, his armor damaged and twitching. He recalls his last memories of his parents, remembering his father Joseph telling him that one day he would be a good man. Maximus musters his strength to roll the armor onto its side, allowing him to exit it, which Thaddeus objects to. As more deathclaws close in, Maximus grabs a nearby roulette wheel and a pool cue, utilizing them as a makeshift spear and shield. He readies himself as the deathclaws continue their advance.

Inside the store, Shotgun Jeff realizes that Maximus is just a kid, and, grabbing a shotgun, attempts to rally the people of Freeside into helping Maximus retake their town. His efforts are for naught, as his rallying attempt fails to spur his fellow citizens into action.

Maximus faces down the approaching deathclaw outside, now recalling when Elder Cleric Quintus found him in the ruins of Shady Sands. He shouts a challenge to the deathclaw, who begins charging. Before it can reach him, it is struck by a shot fired from nearby and killed. Maximus looks to Thaddeus, who denies having done it, and points to another building. Turning, Maximus sees an NCR Veteran Ranger atop the Silver Rush with an Anti-Material Rifle, who fires again, killing a second deathclaw.

A whistle sounds, and a battalion of NCR Troopers and Rangers march around the corner onto Fremont Street, New California Republic standard held high. Stopping before Maximus, Captain Rodriguez steps forward, before calling her men to attention. She informs Maximus that they will take the fight from here, with him responding that that sounds like a good idea.

New Vegas Strip

Maximus enters the strip and, recognizing Lucy, calls out to her. The pair embraces, as Hank sits nearby.

Lucky 38 Penthouse

Lucy and Maximus exit the elevator into the Lucky 38 Penthouse, finding the Lucky 38 Main Computer Console displaying a "Signal Lost" message. They walk past it and look out the window to see Caesar's Legion marching on the city. Lucy laments this, stating it is her fault as she had the chance to stop it with Hank, and now there will be a war. Maximus responds by welcoming her to the wasteland, before taking her hand.

As they look out the window, Mr. House briefly appears on the screen before disappearing again, not yet ready to reveal himself to the world.
