Post-wedding report
Mar. 17th, 2011 01:39 pmFirst of all, thanks to everyone who took my To Ribbon or Not Ribbon poll. I took your advice and went with the ribbon as a finisher on the favor boxes. And we only had about 8 or 10 left! I was afraid we'd be eating M&Ms for the next 6 months. Which we totally could, regardless. : )
The wedding and the reception went off without a hitch. No parking problems, no dress disasters, no huge buffet lines. I can't explain what it feels like to watch your male child dressed up in a tux and hold hands with someone and pledge to be together forever. I didn't cry, which kinda surprised me. I just had this massive smile of joy on my face that, I kid you not, didn't go away for three hours. It was right up there with giving birth to him -- I'll never forget it.
There were a couple of things, though.
1. I bought these shoes to wear with my dress and I was going to bring these flats in black to wear at the reception. But, I know they don't look like it but those heels were so damn high, I was walking very precariously and carefully, so much so that I decided I was going to look like an idiot hobbling down the path to our seats (the wedding was outside). I ended up wearing the flats, even though they weren't really appropriate for the ceremony or my dress. I was comfortable, though and didn't fall once!
2. The wedding cake was partially inedible. It was made of a creme brulee fondant and well, I didn't know this beforehand but fondant is like icing on steroids. It's thick and tough and tastes like flavored plastic. It was terrible. The cake itself was nice, moist and tasty but you literally had to "skin" the fondant off the cake before you could eat it. On the other hand, the groom's cake was chocolate buttercream and was reportedly delicious. I don't know - it went so fast, I didn't even get a piece.
So in conclusion, just say no to fondant and heels. Yes to buttercream and flats.
