US troop presence in Europe to be adjusted; allies are aware of this — top US diplomat

According to Marco Rubio, Washington’s allies are not thrilled about the changes

STOCKHOLM, May 22. /TASS/. The US plans to adjust the number of troops stationed in NATO countries in Europe; Washington’s allies are not thrilled about the changes, but they are aware of them, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters in the Swedish city of Helsingborg, where a meeting of foreign ministers from NATO member states is taking place.

"I think it’s well understood in the alliance that the United States troop presence in Europe is going to be adjusted, that that work was already ongoing, and it’s been done in coordination with our allies," he said.

"I’m not saying they’re going to be thrilled about it, but they certainly are aware of it. You know, we have obligations in the Indo-Pacific, we have obligations in the Middle East, we have obligations in the western Hemisphere, so this has been an ongoing process, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody," Rubio noted.
