Global platforms where Western countries have advantage lost credibility — Medvedev

The Security Council deputy chairman emphasized that inclusive multilateral cooperation platforms, including the CSTO, CIS, SCO, ASEAN, and other forums, will play a significant role in shaping an interconnected Eurasian security architecture

PERM, May 22. /TASS/. Leading international platforms where Western countries have an advantage have lost their credibility because they demonstrate narrow bloc thinking and force countries of the Global South and East to act as backstage extras, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and Chairman of United Russia, told participants in international socio-political hearings on Eurasian security in a message of greeting.

"Leading international platforms where Western countries have an advantage have long since lost their credibility. They demonstrate narrow bloc thinking, force countries of the Global South and East to act as backstage extras in the discussion of important issues, and worsen the crisis of ideas," Medvedev said in the address, read out by Senator Vyacheslav Grigoriev. Medvedev stressed that common legal and institutional forms for jointly addressing security issues in the Eurasian space are still in the process of being formed, and international structures need to adapt to new realities. He stated that the most important principles of the emerging continental security system should be the sovereign equality of states, non-interference in internal affairs, the peaceful resolution of international disputes, and equal and non-confrontational cooperation in the interests of sustainable development.

Medvedev emphasized that inclusive multilateral cooperation platforms, including the CSTO, CIS, SCO, ASEAN, and other forums, will play a significant role in shaping an interconnected Eurasian security architecture.

"The system of collective security guarantees for Eurasia, which is experiencing sustained external pressure, must effectively reflect a fair balance of interests and promote the restoration and strengthening of the UN's central role. Economic, social welfare, and integration issues will be an important part of this," he emphasized. Medvedev also expressed confidence that United Russia's dialogue with foreign political parties and socio-political associations in support of the Russian president's initiative will contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation in Greater Eurasia.
