syntaxofthings: Shinku from Rozen Maiden looking to the right of the screen ([rozen maiden] Shinku forlorn)

Thanks to a fantabulous suggestion from [personal profile] mythdriven, I am going to indulge the low mood today and play it up. So: super intense smokey black eye makeup, fuckin HOT black dress (especially for the party I'm going to this evening! where I want to flirt with guys and be happy). Slightly bittersweet pop music (no Florence, though, because she is triggering). Maybe some Dark Arting.

Also, I want to point out that Dreamwidth is the BEST social media outlet, no joke. People I know offline, whom I talk to over Facebook and Twitter, they would not get this need to say this. Facebook as a platform is not set up for ruminating and discussion. It's all Important Life Events.

Well, this is an Important Decision to make for the day, and you all get it. So there, Facebook.

I also put on my sun lamp for 45 minutes. Probably will do again this afternoon. All the grey days prooooobably aren't helping.

ohhhh

syntaxofthings: Stars with the description "We are all the stuff of stars" ([Planetary] Stuff of stars)
The last couple of days have been kind of a wild ride in terms of crazy message board drama. A wild wonderful ride in which I learn a lot more about my peers there, and feel so much safer and more comfortable telling them... almost anything, really. But somehow it's got me thinking about energy, and I think I'd like to get a better handle on understanding energy. I sort of get the physics objective stuff, like how objects move, how are stars formed, etc., but since we are all "the stuff of stars" we are all also energy, and I'd like to get a better handle on that.

So this morning I had this great light bulb moment while meditating, and thought I'd ask you all, readers of my journal, whether you have any resources to share. Favorite books on energy work? Reiki, I guess? Easy to understand physics (on a planetary rather than universal scale)? Web sites, books, whatever resources on energy you can recommend—reading it, manipulating it, becoming a ceremonial magician...

Go wild. I'm sorry I don't have the necessary vocabulary to specify quite what I'm looking for yet, so I thank you in advance for whatever recommendations you may make!

Dear Succubus On Top,

Thank you for bringing me exactly what I needed to think about right now. Hey, Magic? Welcome back into my life.

Truly yours,
Stephanie

Aquarius: Reach out for others. Schedule a meeting. Understand what your limitations are, especially financially. Share special feelings in a way that makes a difference. Tonight: Hang out with pals.

Source.

I knew right away that the first parts were true, but I didn't know all of it would be. @_@; Definitely hanging out with pals tonight... but when do I not.

From Not in Kansas Anymore: A Curious Tale of How Magic Is Transforming America by Christine Wicker:

Taking communion had been an act of magic for me, a technology of the sacred. I had believed just enough to step forward for the ritual, and that was enough. I had believed just enough to step forward for the ritual, and that was enough. First, the voodoo head washing had changed a deep-seated part of me. Then Christian communion had connected me to something that was bigger than myself. Nothing happened until I took some action. Action and results—the two go together. You can call it religion, you can call it spirituality, you can call it magic. Maybe what you call it doesn't matter. What matters is that you don't settle for being cut off, that you take the power, that you demand the completeness of human experience. To taste fully of all that we perceive, to expand our hopefulness beyond the heavens is our birthright. We aren't here only for confusion and disillusionment. We aren't born merely for death. We are here also for transcendence, to savor the numinous, to wander through the shifting corridors of meaning, and to follow them wherever they take us. If we go too far, we can stop. We can backtrack, we can recant, we can be inconsistent, illogical. What we must not do—no matter what the scientists tell us—is allow ourselves to be cut off from our own experience of life as it presents itself to us. If we do, we will have lost the very ground beneath our feet. —pg. 263, emphasis mine.
