I added this lovely post to my memories yesterday; now I'm trying to start being part of the 'community' by a) posting more often and b) joining communities. Also I want to have that virtual dinner party sometime, but first I need more DW friends. Hardly anyone ever reads this, so a virtual dinner party won't help much until I have at least a handful of people to invite more people with.
So my next action is: be more assertive in finding new journals to subscribe to and joining and posting in communities. More talk is more talk.
Some interesting things I've seen/read lately:
Peggy Sue Got Married: What a cute movie! This was just something I found at Netflix when I was super bored, and I really enjoyed it. There was the sci-fi aspect of "a woman travels through time" but it also dealt with all these emotions that a woman going through a divorce will go through. It brings up a lot of questions: would you do things differently? How do two people reconcile years of arguments? How do you go on after something big like divorce, or marriage, or love, or anything, really? I loved the '80s set and the pace of the movie, and all these things that Peggy Sue has to deal with.
Die Mörder sind unter uns: Hee hee heee. :D I had to watch this for class AGAIN. If you can get over the hokey-ness, it's actually enjoyable. And I love the question: what do we do with the perpetrators of monstrous acts? How are we supposed to go on living after being a part of a societal-wide agent of terror and destruction? How do we make amends for what we've done? Always good things to think about.
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson: I have been meaning to read this book for YEARS and YEARS and oh my god it's amazing why haven't I read it before now? There are so many amazing passages in the text, too. My heart broke over and over and over.
One for the Money by Janet Evanovich: amusing, quick, when does the sex scene take place? (And why is that ALL Morelli can think about when he's not thinking about the fact that he's charged with murder?)
Stargate SG-1: I'm up to the third season. I got fed up with Hulu cutting out on it and stopped watching for a few months. Now I'm doubly bored again and should be using my free time to do something else but naaaah. Also, this may have been recently released and I might want it. And therefore want to see more of Carter.
My mom wants me to have a Netflix account so we can have a movie club. Since I've been watching more movies/TV than reading lately (I can knit while watching at least!), I kind of like this idea. What movies should we watch though? There are so many to wade through, and there's a couple of German movies to start off with.
Hey, does DW have a movies rec'ing comm? That would be super useful.

Date: 2010-02-20 11:37 (UTC)There definitely should be a movie reccing comm - I'm on one for books, and it's quite good. Quiet, but good.

Date: 2010-02-22 00:03 (UTC)What's the book reccing comm you're in? Not that I need more book recs (my to-read list on Goodreads is nice and long already), but I love more. Anyway - I'm doing more searching for a movie reccing comm, but I haven't found one yet. I'm a little disappointed in that.
