An unnamed governor of Springfield's State is mentioned once in dialogue, though he may not actually exist. If he served as governor, it was between nonconsecutive terms of Mary Bailey. He may lives, or have lived, in Capital City.
Biography
During the filming of the TV show Frame Up, the Yes Guy is supervising Homer's execution and speaks to the governor on the phone, who he says hopes Homer will "fry." The state's governor was previously shown to be Mary Bailey, but the Yes Guy refers to the current governor using male pronouns, indicating she is not the governor anymore. However, Homer's execution is later revealed to be a ruse and the Yes Guy never actually spoke to the governor, meaning his reference may have been in error. In the episode "Brawl in the Family", the Springfield Republican Party scraps every anti-pollution law "in the book", which may have been during his term if he existed. In the next season's "The Seven-Beer Snitch", Mary Bailey is shown being the governor again, implying that if he did exist he either retired, was term-limited or was defeated for reelection. If he existed, he was likely a member of the Republican Party, given Mary Bailey's likely affiliation with the Democratic Party.
