Bernie is an employee at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. Little is known about his character, as he appears only once for a very short time. Bernie and a nameless character - the Red Headed Employee met with Homer Simpson during a surprise inspection of the Plant in Homer Goes to College. The three men are in the basement, looking after a bee - this is because Waylon Smithers, Jr. doesn't want them to be tested by the inspectors because they are 'less gifted.' The bee then escapes from its jar (which was Homer's fault due to Homer clumsily kicking the jar when leaning back), and Homer runs after the bee, leaving the two men.
