9 Fanvid Recs - Multi

I'm no vidder, so my whole argument for including a lot of these vids is "they're really awesome! :D?"

Imma Be by Talitha78 -- Leverage -- Hardison, Parker, Eliot gen. This song is a perfect fit for the show and the fun, kinetic and kind of ridiculous mood the author was going for. I especially loved Hardison's parts, because obviously Hardison is the greatest.

Handlebars by Flummery - Doctor Who -- This is THE quintessential Ten video. After David Tennant's departure, I had to rewatch this video like five times. The song is a good mix of humor, ego and hubris - much like Ten himself.

Walk The Walk by Astarte -- Alias -- (scroll down to find the link) This is Sydney Bristow at her most awesome.

Mambo Italiano by Charmax -- Alias -- I love the cheeky, high octane music, and the way that the vidder has matches the tone of the song to the tone of the clips. Lots of explosions, running, and of course, kickin' costumes.

Thistledown Tears by Here's Luck -- Firefly -- Instant classic from the moment I first saw it. This song will always be Firefly to me now. An atmospheric, realistic look at the Serenity crew.

Women's Work by Luminosity and Sisabet -- Supernatural -- (scroll down) This video, already recced to hell and back, does such a great job of showing the problems I have with Supernatural in terms of representations of women. They show the archetypes that Supernatural is so fond of: the saint, the killer and the whore. I only wish it was made after more recent episodes, because I would have loved to see what these vidders could have done regarding the fates of Ellen and Jo, which fit right into the Supernatural pattern.

Day Carry Night by tearful_eye -- Criminal Minds -- A moody look inside Reid's complicated mind.

Come What May by butterfly -- Doctor Who -- Doctor/Rose -- Yes, it's a bit schmoopy and overdramatic, but that's pretty much the definition of the Doctor and Rose's relationship anyway, and I loved it. This is worth watching if only for the moment towards the end when the music swells and they're running towards each other.

I Enjoy Being A Girl by Absolute Destiny -- Multi -- A humorous look at some of the most badass women in sci-fi.

Multifandom & Twilight Recs - 11

I saw that Steph did a recs update and thought, "Self, I better do this before she starts threatening me again." So here are some lovely recs for you!

MISCELLANEOUS (5 Recs)

1. Unbent By Mirrors, Covering Your Eyes Against the Morning by bantha_fodder -Chronicles of Narnia [PG] - A wonderful gen piece from Edmund's perspective set during the Golden Age in Narnia. I love his relationship with Lucy. Mostly, what I love about this story is Edmund's characterization and perspective on things. Later he sits, crown heavy and back straight. He taps patterns in the arm of his throne, watches the Emissary from Galma bow to the thrones, watches the girls behind their veils as they wink at him; anything to avoid watching the light of belief in his beloved sister's eyes.

2. Ellie versus the Bad Day by kiss_me_cassie - Chuck, Ellie/Awesome [PG-13] - A favorite pairing of mine and bubble fic, all wrapped up in one. Ellie had a bad day and awesome takes care of her. I just love them and I love how much Awesome tries to take care of her. And fun appearance by Casey to boot. "The worst," she confirmed, leaning into him. "Mrs. Carrick threw up on me, Johnson's chart got lost, and -" She stopped abruptly and offered him a wan smile. "You know what? It's not even worth rehashing."

3. Mutual Trust by redshoeson - Firefly/Chuck, Ellie & Mal [G] - A lovely AU where Ellie takes a job as temporary doctor on Serenity. Set in FF verse after the show ends, but before the movie. I love Ellie as this almost outside observer, and yet she manages to not only change things for the crew, but herself. Ellie's nervous, her face pink with concern. She looks down at Wash and the stitches she's putting in his shoulder, stealing herself. She doesn't want to - no, she can't - make a mistake. It's the first chance she's had to show her skills since she boarded this gorram ship five days ago, and she's determined not to make a mistake.

4. 10 Ways Ben and Riley Outnerd One Another by strifechaos - National Treasure, Ben/Riley [None] - Ben and Riley out geek one another. It's amusing and fluffy. And there is something about two geeks getting together. At age ten, Riley built his own working Star Trek Command radio; he wore it to school every day until Billy Henderson flushed it, and then his head, down the toilet.

5. Home for Thanksgiving by rachel_wilder - Party of Five [PG-13] - This is a great piece from Charlie's perspective set in the time after the series finale and the Salingers have all gone their separate ways. I love the look into the family gathering back together and Charlie getting to be happy and there is a Charlie & Claudia moment that just makes me so happy. As Charlie drove into the city he looked over at his youngest sister. She was so grown up. It seemed impossible, but then again he had never imagined himself as the owner of a factory, married, raising two, soon to be three, kids.

Twilight (6 Recs)

1. Love Like Rain by boundary - Twilight, Alice/Jasper [PG] - Random moments in Alice & Jasper's life. I love the two of them and I really love those regular moments between them. This fic is great on both those counts. Alice’s hand cupped Jasper’s face just under his chin. Their eyes met and the sparks – that had yet to die down in their many years together – ignited like fireworks. She pressed her lips to his, softly at first and then with a rough passion. She didn’t know why they ever tried to have a conversation; it always ended with hands reaching and lips searching.

2. The Eighth Morning by fantasium - Twilight, Alice/Jasper [R] - This was hot and sweet and I loved how Alice took the initiative because Jasper didn't want to hurt her. I love that Jasper still gives her the reassurance she needs. Really well written. Now, five months later, I was permanently addicted to her company, her person, and the unique flora of emotions that bloomed within her body.

3. Ten random facts about Emmett Cullen by peki - Twilight, Emmett/Roaslie [PG] - I really enjoyed this character look at Emmett. And I love how possessive he is of Rosalie and how that plays into a lot of who he is. There is a great companion piece, Ten random facts about Rosalie Hale too. The others believe his strength is his gift, but Emmett likes to think that his special talent is being the only one who can tell when Rosalie's no means no, when she is just playing coy, and when it's something in between, wary and undecided while she's beneath him in the dark, her eyes wide and frightened.

4. Make This Go On Forever by likeserendipity - Twilight, Emmett/Rosalie [No Rating] - A short piece filled with a series of short moments between the pairing. It's quite lovely and makes me all gooey. Emmettt smiles at her, sometimes, that thank you for finding me smile, and she can’t help but smile back, smiles until she wants to cry, because no, no, no. He found her.

5. Engulfed, Tangled, Together by equinox_blue - Twilight, Post Eclipse, Alice/Jasper [PG-13] - Alice and Jasper spend their first evening together. I love that Jasper can feel (and almost know) that they're meant to be, just like Alice. It could use a beta for grammar issues, but it's a great fluffy piece. “You know, you can kiss me,” the little vampire said, fighting back an impish grin as she looked up at the brooding blonde man holding her hand and seeing what he wanted, no, would do, given incentive.

6. Moonlight Becomes Her by keeper_of_stars - Twilight, Alice/Jasper [PG] - I loved the Jasper point of view in this, how he sees and loves Alice. It's wonderful and fluffy, just how I like things. The two didn’t need to exchange any words of assurance or love unlike the rest of their family; for them, all it took was a look. One shared glance between the two could say more than a kiss or ‘I love you’ between Emmett and Rosalie ever could.

Guest Reccer: Top Ten Sex Pollen Fics (Multi-fandom)

Hi there! My name’s Sheera, also known as trascendenza, and I’m here to deliver a fragrant bouquet of my ten favorite sex pollen fics. Like all good clichés, sex pollen became one for a very good reason: it provides authors a venue to explore their characters’ relationships with sex, and of course, to have some. This pollen has been used to induce orgies, bring forth the filthiest words from an otherwise reserved character, begin relationships that otherwise wouldn’t get off the ground, or as a way to explore tactile sensuality in a way that your everyday sex scene wouldn’t be able to.

...and I mentioned the hot sex part, right? ’Cause yeah. Lots of that. *g* Blatant smut plot devices ahoy!

Multiverse 2006 - 9 Crossover Recs

So the stories have been posted for Multiverse 2006 and these are some of my favorites. Authors haven't been revealed yet, but their names will be added once they go public.

ETA: Authors' names have been revealed.

Multiverse Stories (9 Recs)

1. Three Men and a Jail Cell by resmin – SGA/Farscape/Firefly – This is the multiverse story that was written for me and it features a jail cell conversation between John Crichton, John Sheppard, and Mal Reynolds, three of my favorite characters. It’s funny and wonderful and exactly what I hoped for. “…And River is our genius. She's also insane and has a disturbing tendency for killing lots of folk at once, but she's a good pilot. Almost the best I ever knew."

2. Going Home by mythverdandi - Farscape/Dr. Who – John Crichton spots Rose on a planet and the two have a small chat. I love the Crichton voice in this piece especially…and the potential parallels between himself and Rose. Highly enjoyable. "We'd better get back to Junior, I left him by the candy apples so he won't have gone anywhere. I swear, gumdrop, he eats like your mother..."

3. Made to be Lost by Mara Greengrass – Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy/Farscape – Oh my Lordy, people, I *loved* this story. It’s excellent. The way it’s told, the firm grip on both the universes involved. It’s just perfect. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has this to say about wormholes: Avoid them. Most travellers have enough problems without being sucked into a hypothetical topological feature of spacetime, dragged off-course, and deposited on a planet full of hyper-intelligent weasels.

4. Dancing in Emptiness by vaznetti – Firefly/Star Wars – This story should be read simply for the kick-ass River voice, but also because it features Yoda training River. Wonderful piece. Matter is illusion: the void is all that exists. River takes Serenity dancing through the darkness from one thin web of energy to another. It frightens her, how easy it would be to dissolve it all, release the forces binding them together, return them to the void. She tries to tell this to Mal. "Hey," he says, "there will be no releasing of forces here on Serenity. You get that, River?"

5. Finding the Rain by _bounce – Firefly/Doctor Who (Jack/Mal) – Jack comes to Mal’s aid in bar fight and ends up on serenity. I love the melancholy feel of this story, but let’s be honest…I’m a shallow girl and the idea of Mal and Jack making out? Hot. It's a bar one night on a moon someplace. It's been a while and too many drinks to count right now and there're too many things, too much pain to make sober an option.

6. A Fish Named Cheung by roachspit – Firefly/Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Arthur and Ford end up on Serenity. This is a highly entertaining story. My favorite bit involving Arthur and River discussing the translator fish in his brain. The resultant shrieking, towel-snapping fight served two purposes: It offered a form of stress relief, and it scared away the angry men with large guns who weren't being paid enough to deal with grown men shrieking hysterically at each other whilst hitting one another about the head and shoulders with well-worn bath towels.

7. In a Strange Land by musesfool – Firefly/BSG – Oh, this story is frakking fabulous. Seriously, my friends...loved it lots and lots. There are spoilers through Serenity and the current BSG season, but even if you’re not caught up, put this story aside to read later. There’s a lot to love about this story – the plot, the characters, the point of view – but I think my favorite thing is the protective Mal that we see. "Well, you ain't recruiting Kaylee," Mal says, and he crosses his arms, as well. "Ain't letting her near your gorram resistance, or whatever you're calling it."

8. Seeking Lethe by Kathryn Andersen - Doctor Who/Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – The doctor has drinks with Zaphod Beeblebrox at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. Funny story. If you ever meet someone claiming to be the last of the Time Lords, smile and back away slowly. Unless you happen to be Zaphod Beeblebrox.

9. An Undone War Still Wages by Cherry Ice – Doctor Who/Stargate Atlantis – The Doctor, Rose, and Jack arrive at Atlantis in the midst of the fighting. This story has a dark tone to it, but I love the way the Doctor, Rose and Jack simply start trying to help in their own ways. This is a war zone, or the aftermath thereof. Sheppard is jogging through the corridors with a pack of marines on his heels (marines fresh off the Daedalus, they have not been awake for thirty-six, forty-eight hours like his own), trying to ignore the places where wires and circuits extend through broken walls, the scorch marks of weapon blasts.

Firefly

With Their Eyelids Shut by voleuse--Wash/Zoe. Little snippets that detail their first kiss up to their marriage. I love how just IN AWE Wash is of her. Plus, aww...Wash.

One minute, he's explaining the difference between a triceratops and a stegosaurus, not because she asked, but because he thinks it's important to know.

The next minute, she's straddling his chair, her tongue is in his mouth, and he thinks his heart might slam out of his chest from the shock.

Veronica Mars

Embalm Me by sadiekate--I saw this haunting ficlet recced on crack_van and had to highlight it here. It's Lynn Echolls account of her relationship with Aaron and how she managed to get herself in such a horrible mess. The last line will stick with you.

She met him in his office when they were casting The Pursuit of Happiness, and she liked him right away. He was about the first man in a position of power who didn’t try to seduce her. He was warm, solicitous, and he kept his distance. Of course, it was all a game, she’d realize later. He just wanted her to want him.

Smallville

Tied to the Wrist by Thamiris--Thamiris gives great collegefic, and this story is no different. Clark and Lex meet again after having a falling out.

Not that it matters or anything. Not that he really cares, like this is a date and he's fifteen with maybe a thing, a crush, a crushing thing for the local lord of the manor guy. Because that's Paleolithic and now is practically grown- up if you squint a little, medium-sized man on campus, not to mention the sideline as Saving Man or Fly-Guy or...Okay, not sure on the official title but the point is he's not editor in chief of Geekhood for Dummies anymore, maybe not somebody but blocks from nobody.

Supernatural

Stumbling Across Its Bleak Ending by esorlehcar--Sam/Dean. Dean leaves Sam for Sam's own good. So much lovely angst here as Dean tries, but never quite manages, to move on. There are other stories in this series, but this is by far my favorite of them.

Dean is two hundred miles away before his phone rings. He doesn't need to see the display to know who's calling. It rings again and again, over and over, and by the time it stops there are twelve messages on his voicemail, his lower lip is swollen and bloody, and he's got four neat half-moon gouges on his palm.

Miscellaneous Awesomeness

Firefly/SG-1: the sound of one hand clapping by Gale-- This is absolutely brilliant, a perfect fix. Oma Desala helps Wash ascend. Can you imagine what kind of ascended person Wash would make? And they thought Daniel was bad...

Hoban has a minute to wonder who Kaylee is before a small brunette girl comes out of the machine shop next door, something mechanical in her hands. Her hair’s pulled back, and her cheek has a smear of grease on it, but she’s very pretty. Like your little sister, only not. “Everything looks shiny so far, Cap’n. Though I can’t say as to how good the actual stabilizer’s goin’ to be, but knock wood I think if we can—“ She looks up at the man, then over at the Shepard, then over at Hoban.

SG-1: Shape, Shade and Line by Brighid--This is a Jack/Daniel story that works so well with canon. In Meridian and into seasons seven and eight we learn that Daniel feels his life hasn't meant anything, and that he hasn't done anything. Brighid, and her Jack, explore this.

Another place, another time, he would. He could. He was allowed that now. One week descended and Jack had hauled him up and pushed him against a wall and kissed him so hard his teeth had rattled. "Just in case you decide to die again. Or leave. Or do something else crazy-assed," and so Daniel did the craziest thing he'd ever done.

The Office UK: And You Can't Eat Your Own Shoes by rionaleonhart--This is a conversation that is so perfectly Tim and Gareth that it had me giggling insanely the whole time.

Tim stares at him for a moment. “I swear we were talking about this more than a year ago.”

“Doesn’t matter how long it was. You’ve always got to be prepared.”

“Well, if it takes you a year to work out how to get rid of the tiger, you’re not exactly prepared, are you? If you’d run into a tiger, it would have eaten you by now.”

Harry Potter: Harry Potter and the Inconvenient Condition by Mirabella--Harry gets turned into a vampire and wakes up to find Draco Malfoy sitting on the edge of his hospital bed. There is some seriously hot teasing here. Draco/Harry remains one of my sentimental favorites.

"Malfoy, I swear to God when I get out of these restraints I'm going to -"

"Yes, yes, but that won't be for a few days at least and I'm bored now. How about if we see how long it takes this scalpel and me to bring you off without touching you?"

CSI: Getting To Know by crimsonclad--Greg meets some of Nick's more unsavory friends. It's nice h/c and I enjoyed Warrick in this, even though he made a very brief appearance.

But the timeline is what it is, and Will still sneers at Greg when Nick isn't paying attention, which is most of the time, no matter what daydreams Greg still indulges in. Dean makes dry comments about Greg's taste in music that sound like jokes to anyone who wasn't there the night he got up in Greg's face and called him a cocksucker.

Queer as Folk UK: Uncool by Cesare--Five years later, Stuart runs into Cameron in the supermarket. Awesome.

It must've really killed him to ask, and he never would've done it if Stuart hadn't disarmed him with a smile. Stuart congratulated himself on this subtle, brilliantly evil tactic. Sometimes he planned these things so well, he even got ahead of himself.

Remix Redux IV Recs - 25 Multifandom Recs

The Remix Redux IV went live on Sunday and over the past few days I've been reading through most of the fandoms that I know. I still have one or two to go, but basically, I'm done. So here is my compiled list of recs. I haven't stumbled upon a bad story yet, but these were my favorites.

ETA: remixredux authors have been revealed so authors have been added to the recs.

REMIX REDUX IV RECS – MULTIFANDOM (25 Recs)

1. Step by Step (The Double Time Remix) by nestraGilmore Girls (Kirk) – Yes, it’s the one written for me and therefore it has a place of honor. Honor, I tell you. Not just because it was written for me either, but because it’s funny and perfect and tells the story from a direction I never would’ve thought of…the town is talking about Luke & Lorelai needing a “next step” and Kirk wonders how that applies to him and his relationship with Lulu. The Kirk voice is spot on and perfect. Kirk shoved his change in his pockets and grabbed his groceries. "Well, that's insulting. Not that you're wrong. But you could at least have a plan, Taylor. A map of the town with a line drawn on the middle, and one side marked 'Kirk' and the other side marked 'Lulu.' Lulu and I haven't taken the next step either, so maybe you should be worried."

2. Dreamless (There’s the Rub Dub) by quiet_rebelAlias (Syd/Sark) – The best thing about Syd/Sark is the hotness factor and this story doesn’t disappoint as Sydney tries to deal with her own pain and Sark tries to help her in his own way. But, Sydney could still recall the red blood against Irina's white blouse. The dark in Vaughn's green eyes. Colors. Colors everywhere.

3. Seven Humiliations (A Duet for Enemies) by Rhien Elleth - Alias (Syd/Sark) – On a mission, Sydney encounters Sark and he gets the better of her, causing her to suffer several humiliations in the aftermath. Hot Syd/Sark moments are my favorites. Of the top ten most humiliating experiences in her life, Sydney Bristow had experienced at least five in the past three hours. Certainly a new record for her.

4. King of All the Wild Things (the Of One Kind and Another Mix) by babyofthegroupSupernatural – Sam and Dean bonding as they do late night laundry, remember the first time they were left alone while their father went on a hunt, and plan for their next destination. I love the regular moments between the brothers something fierce and this doesn’t disappoint. "Thanks, Sammy, that's a bit of info I really needed. Just don't ask me to help you bathe. I stopped doing that when you were five." Dean shifts a little so he's leaning up against the wall, carefully avoiding touching the raw cuts on his back to the wood.

5. Man of War (Both Sides Now Remix) by apocalypsosSupernatural/X-Men Movieverse crossover – Dean and Sam learn about mutants and Dean finds out more than he ever wanted to know. This is great and wonderful and perfect. His mind wraps easily around ghosts and black magic and demons, but whip out that "genetic mutation" bullshit and his brain can't handle it.

6. Homesick (The Empty-Handed Remix) by voleuseThe O.C./Gilmore Girls (Ryan/Rory) – This story is enjoyable and considering I’m not particularly a fan of Rory or Ryan, it’s odd that this coupling really works for me. It’s just a cute story. Rory intersects and intertwines with Ryan's life, faster and more easily than he expected. Or maybe exactly like he expected, but he never explains that.

7. Sidelines (The Complaints Procedure Remix) by quasi_hayleyX-Men movieverse (Bobby/John) – John’s always loved Bobby and doesn’t mind being used if it gets him what he wants. Or so he thinks. I love John’s journey of hope for something to grow out of his relationship with Bobby. It’s sweet and angsty. John had liked the frozen rose. It reminded him of the ice flame that Bobby had made for him when they first became roommates. He'd tried to keep it in the icebox but one day he'd gone to look at it and it was gone.

8. Eyes Wide Open (The Coffee Black Remix) by meinterruptedX-Men Movieverse (Rogue) – What I love most about this story is how Marie becomes Rogue through her journeys leading up to where she meets Logan. It’s a great look at her character. Two weeks later she was in Alberta, still starving, and used to telling people her name was Rogue. She didn't trust anyone now, sleeping only in stolen moments in truck stop restrooms, away from the drivers, and keeping alert on the road.

9. Always Spring and Never Summer (Once a King, Always, Immortal Remix) by tartanshell - Chronicles of Narnia – As they return from their adventures and lives in Narnia, the children try to come to terms with things. I loved the looks at each of the children trying to readjust to being away from Narnia and remembering their lives there. The sword felt so right in his hand. It was made for him, as if he'd pulled it out of a stone (or Father Christmas' sled, equally ludicrous), and he knew, now, that he would always feel naked unless it was at his side.

10. White Walls (Water Music) by Farringtongirl78 – Battlestar Galatica 2003 – Set during season one, what if the water Boomer discovered was contaminated? Lee struggles with quarantine and Kara’s physical decline. It hurts but it’s a worthwhile read. When Lee enters the senior officers’ bunkroom he has only one objective in mind...sleep. He stops short at the sight of Kara sprawled on the floor.

11. Prayers Are Said (And the People Rest Remix) by lyra_senaBattlestar Galatica 2003 (lee/kara) – They’ve found earth, but are they capable of resting? It’s beautiful and wonderfully written and the relationship between Lee and Kara in this seems so real and possible. Adama men had some strange voodoo, she thinks, some really frakkin' strong voodoo, because each of them in their own way – each of them loved her. Do love her.

12. Winning the Endless War (The Shattered Glass Remix) by siryn99Battlestar Galatica 2003 – Set after season one finale, Kara returns with the arrow and wallows in more guilt and anger, Lee keeps a vigil by his father and teeters between anger with Kara and relief at having someone to share the burdens with, and Sharon meets Sharon. A great story that truly captures what could have happened in season two. It doesn't matter how long she thought about it before she entered in the coordinates for Caprica. It doesn't matter how many times she saved his ass, not to mention the rest of the frakking fleet. It doesn't matter which way he looks at it, religious quest or not, he still feels the sting of betrayal.

13. Tit For Tat (The Family Feud Remix) by thassalia - Farscape – Chiana becomes part of the crew of Moya, all the while enduring tests from Aeryn. I loved this piece, the characters were dead on and the interactions read perfect. "What rules?" D'Argo snorts. "On our best days we live in controlled chaos."

14. Beautiful Fucked-Up Man (The Humpty Dumpty Remix) by writingacurve - Farscape – Set after the Peacekeeper Wars as John examines happily ever after, except it doesn’t happen. Depressing but the Crichton voice is pitch perfect and it’s really well written. When I was a kid my mother used to read me fairy tales where the prince and princess got married and lived happily ever after. She told me once, when I asked what happened next, that some things were better left unanswered.

15. Satisfaction Guaranteed (In the Darkness Bind Them Remix) by kernezelda - Farscape – An A/U look at the end of season four, as Scorpius puts his plan into motion and gets Crichton to work on wormholes to keep Aeryn and their baby safe. I loved the looks into the mindsets of the characters. Refuse to develop a weapon for Scorpius, and lose Aeryn, lose Jack, lose his sanity. Or develop a weapon, and lose the last bit of morality and humanity that lingers, starving in his soul. John doesn't want to kill again, with the happy exception of one hybrid bastard.

16. Finale Canto (Speaker of the Dead Remix) by llembas - Firefly (spoilers through Serenity) – Book gives Jayne a guitar and Wash teaches him how to play. The Jayne voice is so perfect in this and it’s a bit bittersweet at the end. Jayne's hands tightened around the guitar. He didn't like the idea of Betsy ending up in the middle of a domestic spat. No telling what would happen to her under those conditions.

17. Better Than Strawberries (The As You Like It Remix) by carmarthen - Firefly (Jayne/Kaylee, spoilers through Serenity) – Again it’s a great Jayne voice and I like the way he discovers his own crush on Kaylee, with taunting to help him. Highly enjoyable. Jayne was not sweet on Kaylee, no matter what River said. It was just being cooped up on Serenity for so long. Maybe he'd ask Mal about a few days of leave, next they were planetside.

18. Home (Float On) by cherryice - Firefly – Mal remembers home, the war, and his life. I love the look into Mal’s life and how he became the man we see and love. Even better though, I love the relationship between Mal and Zoe that we see in this story. This was their routine – him telling stories in the dark and watching the stars, Zoe a solid presence at his side.

19. Learning to Fly (Is Like Falling Remix) by laurificus - Firefly (Spoilers through Serenity, Kaylee/Simon, Kaylee/Mal) – This story is wonderful and there is so much to love – the voices, the storyline, the wash & Kaylee friendship. But I think what’s most wonderful about it is that both Kaylee and Mal seem to realize that the potential suitors we see for them (Simon and Inara) don’t really fit for the long haul and they realize that they are perfectly fit for each other. And I guess, Kaylee and Mal are about as close to an OTP as I have on this show aside from Zoe/Wash canon. It also doesn’t hurt that I love how Mal calls Kaylee “darlin’” in this story, turning my brain to mush. She don't tell anybody else about the swings, likes it as their moment, but whenever she thinks of Early after that, she remembers that day, remembers the Captain always standing there to catch her.

20. A Love Restrained (All the Broken Pieces Remix) by topaz_eyes - House (Wilson/House) – Set from Wilson’s perspective, I really love the glimpse into Wilson’s life, his choices and emotions as a doctor and his relationships with House, his wife, and his patients. Wilson feels grateful. House is not normally a patient man, but he will wait for Wilson to talk in his own time. Wilson counts on House to listen, knowing that House pays just as much attention to what he does not say as to what he does.

21. Rumors (Why It’s a Good Idea to Talk While Drunk) by sarcasticsra - House (House/Wilson) – House & Wilson are drunk, end up talking about rumors about them and it leads to kissing. The House voice in this rocks and I love the banter between the two. House hadn't thought that he and Wilson were that drunk; really, they'd only been sitting in his living room drinking for, what, an hour? Maybe two. Or three. Who really kept track of these things?

22. Home Is Where House Is (How Can I Miss You If You Won’t Go Away) by extrabitter - House (House/Wilson) – House and Wilson through the years, with House pushing Wilson away and Wilson always coming back for more. About the only comfort he could take was the idea that he wouldn't have to tell House what happened. That thought sustained him through several hours and several beers before he gave up and called his friend anyway. He didn't say anything.

23. Every Day A Little Death (The Killing Joke Remix) by thepurpleswitch - Sports Night – Casey moved to California awhile ago, but everyone in his life still notices how it affects Dan. I loved this piece. I loved the looks at everyone’s reactions to Casey leaving, but also to their own worries about Dan and life. She presses her finger over the talk button on her phone--she can see Casey's number on the phone's screen as clearly as if she has already dialed it. She bites her lip, takes a deep breath. She slams the phone down into its cradle. They do. Not. Need Casey. Anymore.

24. The Drugs Don’t Work (Cat in a Bag Remix) by phoebesmum - Sports Night (Dan/Casey) – Sam Rydell didn’t die in a car crash and he’s staying with Dan and Casey tries to be supportive and understanding. I love the story through Casey’s eyes and the Dan/Casey evolution of whatever it is going on between them. As for the sofa, he hates it a little less when Dan's on it with him – when Danny kisses him, not much else troubles Casey; Danny's kisses don't leave much room for thought – but right now Dan, who is a careful and considerate host, has gone out to buy beer that he won't drink but Casey will, which has left Casey on his own with…

25. Dark Places Where Monsters Dwell (Secrets and Lies Remix) by soundingsea - Veronica Mars – It’s the end of the world and Mac is left with Dick. There’s some character death in this (just a smidge. Hee), but it’s a great read and I loved the Mac voice here. And okay, I have a great love for Dick Casablancas. When he shuts up, though. He's okay. More than okay. It's like some variant of Stockholm Syndrome, Mac supposes. As it turns out, if he's the last man on Earth, even Dick Casablancas has his good points.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer- 6 Recs

Legend by Marcus L. Rowland--gen. The legend of the Slayer told over thousands of years. Sad and very clever.

Mythologizing The Mundane: A Review of
Sunnydale Nights by Dawn Summers, Milton House, 380pp 12.95
Reviewer: Graham Peabody

Chocolate Hurricane by Cicirossi--Xander/Spike. Xander eats some mysterious chocolate bars and has an unusual reaction.

"Alright," he said aloud when he got the box open. "Dessert." Nestled inside the box was a double layer of Chocolate Hurricane candy bars, his favorite. Wow, he thought they didn't make those anymore. A quick check to the expiration date on each bar proved that they were still good, though, so Xander wolfed down his pizza and unwrapped one of the blocks of candy.

Sidelines by Anna S.--Xander/Spike. Xander's living under less than stellar conditions.

"All the comforts of hell," he muttered to himself. Including a resident demon. "Wake up," he said, kicking Spike in the shoulder with his sneaker. But Spike slept on. Vulnerable, silent. So many possibilities spread out in Xander's imagination--most involving stakes and gasoline--that he was paralyzed until his fantasies subsided back into the gloom.

Monday Morning Going Down by Dawn Sharon and Misha--Xander/Spike. An early morning conversation that turns into an interesting character study of Xander.

"Oh, help. The mean boy is hurting me. I hope he doesn't stick his big nasty tongue down my throat."

Vista by James Walkswithwind--Xander/Spike. A post-ep for "Dirty Girls." Spike helps Xander deal.

No one knows that Xander still goes out to the cemetaries at night, goes out in the streets and alleyways and dark, empty places where humans in Sunnydale usually know not to go. No one knows except the one who goes with him, and Spike would never tell because telling would involve so many other things that they never even had to ask each other to keep quiet.

Post Grad I and II by Te--Xander/Spike. Angsty and sexy and dark and interesting.

Spike wasn't... right, but neither was he. Spike tended to get scary when he was angry, though, and that wasn't as easy to brush aside. There *would* come a time when Xander wasn't ready to get turned on by the snarl, by the way the game face brushed away *all* trace of fathomable emotion. And then what?

Angel- 3 Recs

Wesley Rogue Demon by James Walkswithwind and Mad Poetess--Wesley/Gunn. An interesting and unique look at Wesley and what makes him what he is.

"Master," he whispered, the one word of greeting that he was permitted to speak, the acknowledgment that he was waiting. For orders, for punishment, for death. For whatever the figure in front of him felt like doing with him.

Skelping by Mad Poetess--Wesley/Doyle. Doyle wakes up dead and meets his replacement.

Wesley had taken over Doyle's...niche, though, in the work, in what passed for play, even. Sidekick, legman, comic relief. Cordy had inherited the visions and the headaches, but Wesley had gotten the dubious position of Angel's assistant. This dark-haired, skinny English guy, with the blue eyes and the glasses that made him look just a little like Father Carmody. (And *that* was one Doyle would've never thought he'd be admitting, that a thirty-five year old priest had set his teenage heart a-flutter all those years ago, but when you're dead... what's the point of plausible deniability?) He was a stranger to Doyle, but one whom the ghost somehow had to know more about. To know what he was, who he was, whether he was capable filling that position, and keeping Doyle's friends safe.

Open Season by WesleysGirl--Wesley/Doyle. The gang brings Doyle back to save Cordelia's life.

"Wesley Wyndam-Pryce," the man said quickly, and started to reach out as if offering to shake hands before obviously thinking better of it and pulling back. "Alan Francis Doyle. You are, aren't you?"

Firefly- 9 Recs

Always Armed by DeeDee--Zoe/Wash. How Wash convinces Zoe to date him.

"Wash," she said, more harshly than she had intended in her effort to stifle a laugh. "I just said it's not happening." She tossed her rag on the table and slid the bullets into her gun.

Of History by Northlight--Wash/Zoe. Zoe explains why Wash never has to worry about her relationship with Mal. Beautiful and lyrical and touching.

And maybe Mal knew where Zoe's scars had come from, but he would never know that she'd had socks rolling about in her shirt as she danced with her best friend.

Lex Talionis by Tara O'Shea--gen (Kaylee/Simon). The crew thinks about their relationship with Kaylee after a terrible encounter with Niska. Warning: implied rape and violence.

"One of my crew got snatched on Greenleaf," Mal continued, deceptively calm. "My mechanic. Last time you saw her, she was in a pink fluffy dress, bow in her hair. Cute as a gorram bug. Niska's men tore her up pretty bad, and as you are the only person who knew we were gonna be on Greenleaf..."

Big Damn Zombies, Sir by shrift--gen. Jayne gets turned into a zombie and (sort of) terrorizes the crew. Funny!

Mal sighed and climbed back up the ladder, leaving Jayne to cuddle Vera to his undead heart's content. "Somebody should head back into town, ask around. See if they can't scare up a reason why Jayne's all... zombified and such."

Academies by pearl-o--gen. Five places that River Tam could learn. The second one packs a punch with its correlation to canon.

I'm sitting on the window seat in my room with a plate of Madeline's special cookies and some tea (that's the stain at the bottom of the page -- sorry).

She Walks In Beauty by defender82--Zoe/Wash. Wash outsmarts Mal in order to find an opportunity to propose to Zoe.

"You get me to a decent planet and get us a couple of days of shore leave, kid, and I'll buy you that hydraulic autoclamp you been lusting after. Planet's got a beach, I'll throw in a pair of synchronizers."

Expedient by Ana--Kaylee/Jayne. Kaylee and Jayne let off some steam together. I like this Kaylee.

Walking closer to him, Kaylee says, "I figure you liked what you saw, back when the councillor walked in. Me too. More fun for both of us if we work it out together."

The First Step by llaras--Wash/Zoe. Wash tries to woo Zoe.

"You can't win her over with fripperies like poetry or flowers or candy."

Simply Perfectest by voleuse--Wash/Zoe. Wash's plan to win Zoe doesn't go exactly the way he'd planned, but he can learn to adjust. I love pre-series Wash/Zoe. Also, the image of enraged Wash attacking Bester is really hot to me for some reason.

And then he's in the engine room, and panic flashes over Bester's face as he slams him into the engine, and Wash lets loose every profanity, every obscene name he ever picked up from his older brothers on the playground.
