Lots of recs, but I haven't read everything yet. Not even everything in every fandom, so I'm hoping to get another list up soon. Yuletide and Yuletide Madness recs.

Top Ten A.I.s (portraits clones and ghosts-- oh my!)

Top Ten A.I.s (portraits clones and ghosts-- oh my!)

Ah, apparently I'm the last and the latest of the guest reccers? The theme of the the day is the human condition-- particularly relating to humanity's integration with its own technology and transhumanism. At least, as expressed by the the android, the portrait, the AI in fan fiction. They all ask the same basic questions: what is it to be human? what is it to not be human? I limited my search to the fandoms I'm most familiar with (Sorry, no classic Marvel or Trek) and chose fics that I enjoyed-- most of them are relationship-centric and slash-- but also attempted to favor those that better explored the thematic concepts in some way.

Fandoms: 50% Harry Potter 40% Stargate 10% Iron Man
Main Pairings: 100% m/m-ish 10% f/m 0% f/f

My journal where I will post the above + EVEN MORE (always more AI fic) at some point soon. They will also all be added to the rest of my tagged recs.

Guest Rec: 10 Fusions

Top 10 Fusions.

I love Fusions. They're where you take one set of characters from one universe and place them in another universe as if they always belonged there. It's different from a crossover where you're putting characters in a different world and closer to an AU where characters are thrown into a different situation. I love all of these things, but I really love fusions.

The fandom that introduced me to fusions was SGA. Now it's pretty obvious why: it's really easy to populate an away team with people from different places. But a couple of other fandoms pop up with some great fusion's too - it's easy to turn people into hunters in Supernatural for example. So here are 10 of my favourites in a variety of fandoms for you to enjoy!

Miscellaneous/Multifandom - 9 Recs

And here are the last of them that I've been collecting for the time being. More multifandom. I'm sure I'll have more SPN in the near future as Mystery Spot stories are one of my new favorite things.

Miscellaneous (9 Recs)

1. Brotherly Love by poisontaster - Black Donnellys, Tommy/Kevin [R] - The voices in this story are perfect and I love how possessive Tommy is of Kevin, even when he doesn't fully understand it. Walking along, minding his own business and thinking about maybe catching some dinner in the diner when Fishhook Fairlane sidles up to him with a nod and a "Hey, yo, Tommy."

2. You Still Feel Safe Inside by merle_p - Brothers & Sisters – Justin-centric piece throughout the first season up until season two premiere. I really loved the picture this paints of Justin and his relationships with his brothers & sisters. He doesn’t know how long he has been sitting there, but suddenly, Kevin is there, pale and breathless, and scoops him up, hugging him and dropping kisses on Justin’s skin. Justin is so relieved that he starts crying, and Kevin carries him all the way back to where the others are waiting, upset and worried.

3. Into the Black Petals - Burn Notice, Michael/Fiona [R] – Set pre-series, Michael and Fiona get out of a tight jam and fall into each other’s arms. I loved the look at their relationship before the show. Hot and wonderful. "Can we talk about this later?" he asked. Sirens rose in the distance, a familiar and unwelcome wail. "When people aren't shooting at us?"

4. Leave My Brother Alone by lostandalone22 - Charmed [PG] – Wyatt protects Chris from a bully. I love overprotective big brothers and this is just perfect. Wyatt moved a couple of inches, completely blocking David, the school bully, from getting to his brother. Chris was gentle, too kindhearted for his own good, and kids like David picked up on that the second they saw it. When the bullying had started, Chris told Wyatt to leave it alone, to let him fight his own battles, but today was the last straw.

5. Five Flights Dan and Casey Wished They’d Missed by celli - Sports Night, Dan/Casey [PG] - I might be biased as this was written for me, but I love the various conversations between the two. It's so perfectly them. Dan turned an incredulous look in Casey's direction. "One, he's the person talking about the status of our flight. Two, if I have a choice between the sane and competent view to the east and the crazy view to my immediate north, which should I pick? And three--" He broke into a grin. "Three, you're kind of cute when you're jealous."

6. Breakfast: Central Park West by scrunchy - Sports Night [G] - Dan & Casey spend Saturday morning hanging out. As always, scrunchy writes a pitch perfect Dan & Casey exchange and Dan is so perfectly adorable about geeking out on the Natural Science Museum. "Again, and – your crabby caveat notwithstanding, Dan, it's a thing about bugs. And we were there two months ago. It's – even when Charlie was young enough where we could expect it of him, he never demanded this kind of repeat visit to the Museum of Natural History."

7. The Stars From the Ground by giddygeek - Torchwood, Post Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, Jack/Ianto [no rating] – It’s wonderful fluff where Jack and Ianto have their first date. I love these two. As he's buckling himself back in, Jack leans toward him, catches his chin in the palm of his hand, turns his head. "I missed you," he says, quietly, searching Ianto's eyes for something, some hint to what Ianto is thinking; he's always done that, as if he'd known all along that there were thoughts Ianto hardly understood himself. "I missed you more often than you could know."

8. One Single Moment by kayim - Twilight, Carlisle/Esme [G] - A wonderful, quick piece set from Carlisle's point of view as he recalls meeting and turning Esme. Good stuff. None of that means anything to me really. 1921 was the year that my beloved Esme was born to me. She had, of course, been born 26 years earlier, in 1892, but it was in 1912 that I stole her remaining life and turned her into one of us.

9. Ironic by silly_bella - Twilight, Post New Moon, Edward/Bella, Alice/Jasper [no rating] – Alice talks with Edward after he ends things with Bella and then seeks comfort with Jasper. Good work with the characters and I’m a sucker for any Alice/Jasper. “You won’t last long without her, Edward,” I warned him. “You’ll go back.”

Cursed- 3 Recs

I have to warn you that I've never actually seen this movie, but the pictorial overview written by crimsonclad was pretty darn convincing. To wit: a teenage half-werewolf, animal magnetism and, oh yeah, Milo Ventimiglia as a gay bully with an unrequited crush on the main character. True story. Another thing I'll warn you about it that the following three fics, found at the Yuletide archive (bless them), probably comprise the entirety of the fandom's offerings (for real - teenage half-werewolf? Not even the power of the Milo could save that premise). Thankfully, they're three enjoyable fics.

Nothing Hurts Like Your Mouth by quarterturn--Jimmy/Bo--After the events of the movie, Jimmy pushes Bo away and acts generally miserable. PG-13

“Look, Bo, you were kicking my ass last week, it's a little weird that you're trying to get a piece of it now,” Jimmy says, and he realizes it's the most boneheaded and insensitive thing he could possibly say, ever, in the history of dumb things he's said, but he doesn't take it back because he's stressed and angry and traumatized, and Bo of all people should know that.

Distracted by Ozsaur--Jimmy/Bo--Post-movie, Jimmy finds himself very distracted by Bo.

"Suit yourself." Two long fingers dipped into the yellow bag, and snagged a green M&M. Popping it into his mouth, Bo crunched loud enough to make Jimmy grit his teeth. He kept forgetting that Bo was good at not taking a hint when he didn't want to. Jimmy glanced up at the perfectly innocent blue sky and sighed.

Fairy is Wolf's Clothing: A Cautionary Tale by packmentality--Jimmy/Bo--While some of Jimmy's powers are fun, he's finding certain ones...difficult.

"Fine," he says. "Can you just, I don't know...stop being attracted to me for a while?"

Torchwood- 2 Recs

Lost and Found by Kaneko--Jack/Ianto, past Ianto/Lisa--This is Ianto's life in interweaving vignettes that are lyrical and beautiful. I love the characterization of pre-cyber Lisa.

The first time Lisa kissed him, they were in the middle of the Torchwood dining hall. Ianto was holding a tray with the remains of his lunch.

she can drive as fast as me but she stops at all the lights by minervacat--Jack/Vala Mal Doran, Vala/Daniel--Crossover with Stargate SG-1. The three times Jack and Vala meet. I especially love the last time, which takes place in current time, Jack with the Torchwood crew and Vala with Daniel. There's a bit of time trickery, a bit of heroics, a lot of sex, and charisma the way only these two could manage. It's criminal that Jack and Vala will never be on screen together. I guess that's what fanfic's for. NC-17

"I thought this was just a stopover until I could steal another ride," she said. "Didn't know this sort of excitement was in the works."

Supernatural- 3 Recs

Paradigm Shift and New Blood by lyra_wing--A futurefic that has Sam and Dean leading an X-Files-esque division of the FBI. It's fun to see all of the familiar faces in the second story. PG-13

"Ohh, the new kid," says the dark-haired guy. "I heard about you. I'm Andy." He nods at his opponent. "This is Ash. Our go-to tech guy, and my part-time partner."

Hiding in Plain Sight by antiship--Sam/Dean--A bit of genderswitch, some witchcraft and some angsty sex. This story is so clever! I was biting my lip waiting for Dean to finally figure it out. NC-17

When he got back to the car, the girl was there again – not sitting on the Impala this time, but against it. Her knees were drawn up, slim arms crossed on them. She looked about the same, in the same cheap clothes, her hair still obscuring half her expression. Maybe a little more battered and dusty. A week on the road, Dean thought vaguely.
