Interviewing Childfree folks for an article?

Hey folks! I'm working on an article about the childfree movement in Portland and I'd love to talk to some of you folks about your viewpoint, your experiences being childfree, the reception you've received from the rest of society, stuff like that. I'd especially love to talk to those of you who've gotten vasectomies, tubal ligations or the Coil. My e-mail address is brandonseifert at gmail dot com.

(Incidentally -- I'm also childfree and pretty damn happy about that. I got a vasectomy when I was 23 back in my hometown in Alaska, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made.)

Childfree Pride Weekend 2007 Is On 9/22 and 9/23



Hi,

The fourth annual Childfree Pride Weekend, a holiday weekend that I created for childfree adults so that they could take pride or show pride in their excellent childfree decision, is occurring on the weekend of 2007/09/22 and 2007/09/23. Childfree Pride Weekend occurs every year on the weekend of September's fourth Saturday. Childfree Pride Weekend is to childfree people as Gay Pride Weekend is to gay people.

Weeding Party Saturday?

I'm admitting that I'm desperate... my yard needs some attention, and I'm unfortunately not able to do it myself due to arthritis. It means I can't crouch or kneel for more than a minute or two.

Two weekends ago I had arranged through Craigslist for someone to come weed my yard. He called saying he'd have to reschedule for a couple days later, and I've never heard from him again. Craigslist doesn't allow you to repost in the gigs section within a certain period of time, or it labels you a spammer.

So, novel idea, How about I offer pizza, beer and wine to anyone who wants to come hang out on Saturday and help me weed my teeny tiny yard! I only have one pair of gardening gloves, and a few short-handled tools, so if you have a rake, gloves, or anything else, that would be a help.

All the vittles and booze are on me. I was thinking about 6 PM while it's still light and it's starting to cool off. The weekend is supposed to be pretty warm.

Any takers? I can email address and contact details if you're interested.

Religious Psychos on My Campus

I just sent this e-mail to the President of my University. His campus-wide e-mail, which I am responding to, is copied at the end. I am pissed.

[Edit: My e-mail bounced, so I looked around the campus website and found the President's actual e-mail address, bernstined at pdx dot edu, and I resent to that address rather than the generic info address that was in the reply box.]

Dear President Bernstine--

I just now walked by the on-campus demonstration of the "Center for Bio-Ethical Reform" on my way to the computer lab, and was happy to find your e-mail in my inbox, since I wanted to write to campus authorities expressing my puzzlement and revulsion that such a demonstration would be allowed to be part of Genocide Awareness Week. I appreciate your committment to upholding free speech rights; however, the written and pictorial propaganda displayed by this so-called "Center for Bio-Ethical Reform," besides being utterly inaccurate, borders on harassment which creates a harmful environment in and of itself. Sensory Story Time in Portland

Does your child need a welcome place for story time even if he or she can't sit patiently or is obsessed with the light switch? Do you want a place where parents could also meet each other? "Sensory" Story Times are available at two locations:

Capital Hill in SW Portland
Woodstock in SE Portland

Attendance was great at first but it has really fallen off, so if any of you are interested in this sort of thing--please go!

It's not just a story--they do bubbles, puppets, jumping around, songs, ring around the Rosie, sometimes Joan plays her guitar, etc. It's fun, even for kids like mine who don't like sitting for a story in a group. And it goes without saying that no one bats an eye if kids try to escape, play with the light switch, melt down, etc.
