Nice graphical style. A plot that almost makes sense with soap opera grade dialogue. Easy regular fights and punishing, tedious boss fights due to intensely stupid AI and resource limits. Listen to your AI companions yell at you every time they use an ability. Pay $60 for the game and then get poked in the eye every few minutes to buy stuff from the store giving me cheap eastern MMO p2w vibes. I love JRPGs generally but all the nope goes to this one.

Fun game for the first player to arrive on the island. If anyone else in the household plays, they are essentially a meaningless NPC that is unable to impact the story in any meaningful way. Terrible design decision that I hope they will reverse. The game itself is fun for the most part, even if it feels like it needs more variety after a while. It is clearly a game to just have fun with and if I could actually play the game properly, it might be fun for me. My wife is enjoying it (primary player) though. Multiplayer aspect is incredibly shallow too, I expected more from that. I would say if Nintendo reverses their boneheaded single island move, it could be winner but they have sold a bajillion copies of it and likely dont care. Nintendo = Tom Nook.

The first game (aside from the lame villain reveal near the end) was actually a pretty entertaining game. Formulaic sure but the combat was fun and the overall plot was entertaining, even if the dialog was intensely cringe worthy sometimes. This game however just feels jaded. Repurposed assets from the first game, leading you to all the same areas you have seen before. It feels lazy, like they just wanted to shove this out the door. The combat is still as good as the first game, although some ambush fights feel very poorly balanced and led to a few group deaths with me only getting maybe one action. Without going into spoilers though, what killed this game for me was the plotline involving C. Just terribad. Boggles my mind that people think this game is a classic. Was hyped for this game after enjoying trails in the sky and cold steel 1 but this series is dead for me now.
