Sterling Point

Teen shows are a TV staple, but great ones are rare, and this series from Park is on its way there.

Sterling Point is as deep as the water where its characters jump off cliffs, full of sharp dialogue and unexpectedly moving moments. Amid all the Prime young-adult romances, this is the one that will stand the test of time.

What makes “Sterling Point” work so beautifully is its rare, real, unhurried sense of time; it stretches out the way days do when you’re young.

Some storylines can be soapy. The dialogue is occasionally stilted. Yet richly developed characters keep clichés from lingering.

What Sterling Point excels at, though, is tracing the quiet aftermath: moments of bruised introspection, as characters dissect their own flaws with disarming honesty, which gives the show’s breezy tone and aesthetic some much-needed weight.

It’s a perfectly fine series full of moments that will likely be meme’d. If you like “The Summer I Turned Pretty” or “Outer Banks,” you might be ready to head out to “Sterling Point.”

Ms. Rubin is terrific and there’s some very clever writing in “Sterling Point,” but a viewer will check out mentally, and early, because the entire mystery would be resolved if one character would simply ask another a very obvious question, instead of straining not to.

Sterling Point part d’une idée intéressante autour de la vente de l’île et de ses enjeux économiques, mais cet aspect reste malheureusement trop peu exploité et manque de tension. Le développement des personnages est plutôt réussi, mais les intrigues sont souvent très prévisibles et manquent de profondeur. Seule l’intrigue principale se démarque réellement avec un retournement de situation intéressant et surprenant. Certains personnages évoluent également trop rapidement, tandis que les nombreux conflits reposent souvent sur des excuses répétées, parfois jusqu’à devenir lassantes. Aussi normaliser le fait de flirter avec 2 hommes en même temps n’est pas normal. Au final, une série avec un bon potentiel, mais trop peu exploitée et qui manque d’enjeux pour réellement marquer.

I don't know if this is supposed to be a drama or a comedy. I don't think the writers know. The acting is horrendous. Maybe on purpose but it makes the whole thing very bland. There are clearly some talented actors in this. But it is such a mix or talent and incompetence that I don't know where they are going with this. I like they mystery aspect but this is so overshadowed by boring romance and teen crap it is insufferable.

Predictable, lack lustre teen overdramatic story telling. The plot needed more depth.
