It’s thrilling and funny and just so slightly moving in places, as it always is. That’s Reacher. You’re in very large, very safe hands.

Strip down the show’s politics and they would be dangerously close to a hand-wringing plea for both sides to stop being as bad as each other, to end the violence, and won’t somebody please think of the children. But the Troubles give Trespasses what it needs. As individuals’ hopes and feelings are crushed in the gears of events much bigger than them, we feel that pain.

The mix of raucous crudeness and simplistic sentimentality – one thing the two elements share is that they’re both aggressively, insistently philistine – has become the signature Gervais style, but that doesn’t make Alley Cats any more appetising. In 2D, his writing falls flatter than ever.

Not the same, but not fundamentally different is how a show that’s now (superficially) about women’s football instead of men’s should feel, and the new Lasso has that balance right. It’s another winning season.

This has more zip than the previous effort in contrasting Saara’s GCHQ work with her life as a young British Muslim, which was another element of season one that never got off the ground. But The Undeclared War is still scrabbling around for something that will compensate for the digital age’s cold wars being essentially action-free.

The script offers half a bad idea, which Ferrell and co are tasked with turning into comedy gold through sheer comic exuberance. With so little to work with, and with Ferrell’s ability to perform miracles now on the wane, it never works.

With some sturdy players in the cast, The Westies is … OK.

Trying has the power to bring a tear to the driest eye without warning, and that’s the case again in season five. .... Purely as old-fashioned comedy, every episode is so awfully good.

Dispiritingly, the show uses her near fatal trauma as an excuse to dole out one of the most tedious of all overused dramatic devices: the main character who has amnesia. .... Maybe Silo knows it needs to lighten up, so season three introduces a new timeline, centuries ago in Before Times that look a lot like the early-to-mid 21st century.

This was a movie spin-off full of potential but TV this bland should be illegal.
