*Whew!*

Sheesh! I thought I was going to lose my mind there for a little while. Now, Olivia is visiting a friend (thank you, smilingtimsmum, the big boys are at football practice, and Jonathan is watching a movie. I was able to get my housework done without anybody stopping me -- and still watch part of the Dog-a-thon. (Okay, "Dog, The Bounty Hunter" is a guilty pleasure. I don't know why I love that show, but I do. I just want to give Dog a hug. Beth, too. All of them.)

Anyhoo, my house is freshly Fly-Ladied, new organizational systems are in place, clothes are set out for my first day back to work, and I'm frying some fish for din-din. I'm starting to get the butterflies in the stomach feeling that I always get right before going back to school, but I'm excited, too.

My sick friend stopped by today. We weren't able to storm her house the other day and spoil her rotten because of a hoard of other family members who had the same idea, but I'm glad that she got some lovin'. We've all decided to have a potluck dinner pretty soon, because we all have big families and cooking is a PITA. She also drives an hour to work (in the other direction, unfortunately, or we'd have an awesome carpool situation!) and our other cool mommy friends are Stay-at-home parents. I've learned that whether you "work" (as in outside the home) or not, you work if you're a Mom, and we all get overwhelmed with the amount of work it takes to keep a family going. Besides, all the really busy stuff happens from the time kids get home from school until you finally get to go to bed, regardless of your own working situation. I think we ought to potluck once a week, just so everyone gets a day when we can share food an nobody has to cook an entire meal! Wouldn't that be fun?

Alrighty, time to flip the fish and throw something together for a side dish before the boys get home. Then it's back to the salt mines tomorrow! Eeeeek!

Thrifting

I really don't understand how it can be this humid and not rain. It feels like somebody's armpit out there. Gah.

I went thrifting with Julie and Tracey today in Marietta, OH. They are thriftshop goddesses. Seriously, they have mad ninja skills in finding amazing stuff in those places. When I go by myself, I find nothing. Today, Julie found a gorgeous wrap dress that fits me perfectly, and they helped me to find a bazillion really nice shirts to wear to work. I found a lot of shirts for Isaac and Joseph, and I didn't even look for clothes for Olivia and Jon because they have a ton of hand-me-downs from cousins. I spent a grand total of $24 and came out of there with a dress, 10 shirts for myself, 5 shirts for Isaac and 6 for Joseph. And a purse. For me. Of course.

We had a blast. We really ought to do that more often. We always have a blast together. Marietta is such a cool little town, with all kinds of little artsy boutiques, coffee shops, antique stores and thriftshops. I wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe next time. I laughed so hard, my sides are still sore. I have amazing friends.

Speaking of amazing friends, smilingtimsmum dropped by to give Jon a birthday present, and we had a nice visit.

Yay for cool mommies!

Beautiful Weekend

It was a decent weekend! How was yours?

The weather was AWESOME! I couldnt' ask for better weather for the weekend. I was stuck inside for a lot of Saturday getting the house clean. I am trying to declutter the kitchen to get ready for the new cabinets, but that turned out to be a much bigger project than originally planned. Still it needed to be done. It feels so good to get stuff organized. It's going to feel even better to have a functional kitchen, with enough counter space to cook a meal without balancing dishes and cutting boards on the edges of the sink.

Saturday night, I hung out with some of my Mom friends at Julie's house. Julie lives on a ridgetop, with the most awesome scenery behind her house. We sat and talked and watched the sun go down, and it was such a great way to spend an evening. We really need to get together more often. Every time we all get together, it's like therapy. Except, I think I get more benefit from talking to them than I do from therapy. (That's not to say I don't like my therapist... she's awesome, but true friends can sometimes hone in on things that a therapist wouldn't even know about.) We had a blast. My sides still hurt from laughing.

Sunday, we had a housefull of kids. Tracey (one of the Mommies) is repainting her gorgeous 100+ year old Victorian house so I kept her two oldest kids for a few hours. Her oldest and Isaac are pretty tight so they really had a blast playing all day. The weather was gorgeous so the kids stayed outside all day long, only coming to the porch when the hot dogs were ready. Jonathan was large and in charge -- running all over the yard with the big kids, and they were good to play with him, too.

Mike finally got the problem with the Mustang fixed (it was the alternator) and took it out for a spin on Sunday. I'm glad he has it in top condition again. Hopefully, he'll be ready to race this summer. I would really like to see him actually race it, instead of just banging around on it in the basement and getting frustrated because it just sits there. :) I'm sure he would rather race than turn wrenches, too.

No major plans for today. The kids are all working on long-term assignments and it's actually kind of boring right now. The mural in Alissa's room is coming along really well, though. I need to post a picture!
