A couple of firsts

Yesterday, Lizzie had a very awesome day (from my point of view- she's usually pretty happy kid on any day).
She told me a joke, spontaneously, correctly, and quite funnily! She heard it at preschool. It goes like this:

"Which fairy doesn't take a bath?"
"Stinkerbelle!"

At which I guffawwed. And I made her repeat it to as many people as I thought would also appreciate it. In fact, I called my MIL up on the spot to have Lizzie do it again for her.
My reaction was over-the-top positive, which might have contributed to Lizzie's subsequent obsession with the joke, particularly the punchline.

"Stinkerbelle!" she goes around saying, repeatedly, now. Oh well.

And then, more awesomeness. BIKE!

Lizzie has had a nice little bike since her third birthday, 14 months ago. She hasn't been able to ride the thing, 'cause there was a training wheel problem, which we got fixed last summer; but then, even though it worked, she couldn't ride it because she wasn't willing to push the pedals. Well, yesterday (when it was SO FREEZING, incidentally), she rode her bike, pushing the pedals and steering too, more than half of the way to the park.

I was bursting with pride and happiness for her new skill and mobility. It's hard for her; she struggles to push the pedals on the slightest incline. She slept well last night, for sure! But now she knows what to do, I bet her proficiency will increase like crazy, and then I'll have to run to keep up with her! It'll be great. :)

art

Lizzie told me tonight she wants to be an artist when she grows up.
"I'm going to be a great artist someday," were her exact words. I think this is the first time she's said what she wants to do as an adult/with her life. Cool!

Here's one of her recent pictures. It's done in paint marker (from the craft store) on printer paper, and then cut out. I scanned it with some gray card stock behind it, so you can see what a whiz she's getting to be with scissors.
If I remember correctly the subject she told me, it's her friend Xander with a broom.

Here's another picture, possibly of Mommy, from Lizzie's fingers & toes phase (about two weeks ago?). I think it is her first signed artwork! She just started writing her name a month ago. Paint marker.

A great picture by Lizzie

Liz's drawing

The large figure in the middle is Daddy. I think that after she did the large one, Lizzie remembered that she always likes to draw three figures (Liz, Mom, and Daddy), so she added the two smaller figures on either side. That's what the things on either side of the middle one's ears are.

Lizzie has good taste

Lizzie has been a Mickey Mouse fan for a while now. She came to it through youtube videos. We watch a lot of youtube videos, and when you watch Pooh videos on youtube, sometimes Mickey Mouse videos show up over on the side.
Anyway.
She likes The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
And we watched two segments of Mickey's Christmas Carol before she got bored of it. She did get scared when Marley's ghost (Goofy) came out of Scrooge's door knocker. So I hugged her, and made a point to laugh at ghostly Marley's Goofy pratfalls, and she got over her fear.

Lizzie's language explosion

If you've let me talk about Lizzie (one of my favorite topics) to you for any length of time, you know she's been a bit behind on her speech development. She's been in speech therapy for almost 10 months.
And recently, she's been making amazing progress. She still can't pronounce many consonants. But she's more and more understandable even without them. Ryan and I catch very clear words and phrases and stare at eachother to make sure the other heard what a wonderful sound that was.
One of her favorite things to pretend play, is Putting Bears and Dolls to Bed.
She lays them down (anywhere) with her Silky (very special blanket), and says "Shh" and "night-night". It's cute.
Tonight, she put four toys to sleep on the kitchen floor under her silky, with some specially placed blocks (to keep them company?), and said, "night-night". Then, "sweet dreams". Clear as day, she said, "Sweet dreams!". I don't even use that phrase with her! I'm so impressed! I wonder how many times she even heard it, was it her babysitter on Saturday, who wished her that, or did she get it from TV? Anyway, I'm impressed, and have absolutely zero perspective, as usual, because I worship my Lizzie.

Lizzie draws!

Lizzie and I like to draw and color on the same pages at the same time. Lately, she always asks me to draw (in this order); Daddy, Mommy, Liz, and sometimes Pooh (Winnie the).
Today, I drew Daddy, Mommy and Liz for her, and she copied my Daddy picture!! I love it so much!!

Detail of just Lizzie's part of the picture:

The whole picture: my drawings on top. See how Lizzie used my picture of Daddy to help draw hers?
