Goodbye, Leverage!

OT: THANK YOU aislingde and elli for the V-Gifts!
As usual I was too late to make use of them.
Also, as of January 4th I will try to make do without a paid account and go back to a plus account. Whittling down the icons to just 15 was the hardest thing in a long time!

Now on topic:

Not only Merlin, but Leverage also (probably) ended with the finale of its 5th season on christmas day.
As of now the network still hasn't decided yet on a 6th season and so the writers decided to have their envisioned series finale as the end of season 5. And as sad as I am to see the characters go, this WAS the series finale and everything after that can only pale in comparison.
Or backtrack on things that have been said and done.
And I don't want another Stargate SG1 happening, which ended for me after S8, because THAT was the series finale.

And it really feels that Leverage has run its course and there are no new stories to tell. The character development of all the characters feels finished and I really, really loved how that worked.
You could really tell how much the actors loved and cared about their characters.

Sadly the heists got a little repetitive over the years, but of course there's only so much you can do. But I do love the great ones they pulled off.
The last one, of course - though with my Merlin FEELs still at the forefront of my mind ,they almost had me there in the beginning - and all the ones with Sterling in! My favourite still probably being "The second David Job".
And my all time favourite is still - after everything - Season 3 Episode 11 - The Rashomon Job (The one with the first meetings without knowing it).

Another show at it's end! Whatever am I going to watch next year? WAHHH!

P.S.: I'm open to suggestions. I've tried Person of Interest, Last Resort, Vampire Diaries, Breaking Bad
While some had interesting premises and I think I might someday continue with Last Resort, so far nothing held my interest much. But I'm VERY picky. Firefly also fell totally through the roster and Doctor Who sadly is still on the "will-continue-someday" hold.

YT, Christmas and other miscellany

This time I'm doing bullet-points, too!
  • Yuletide assignment story done and sent off to beta! Of course it could be better if I keep fiddling with it, but, well... atm I'd rather write more treats!
  • One treat done, yay! Let's see if I can do one more! The non-word-limit helps a lot.
  • Christmas cards all done and the last ones will go into the mail tomorrow, two overseas ones won't probably make it in time for Christmas, sorry.
  • Got lovely, lovely Christmas cards from _bettina_ and ronsoftie. Thank you, ladies!
  • No Snow here! German part of F-List is full of people who have snow today! Not me :(
  • The first half of S4 of Leverage was pretty blergh, sadly. But the last two episodes were awesome again! And I am really looking forward to the one tonight.
  • Chris asked if there were He-Man/Skeletor (yes, the slashy kind)stories. A quick search revealed there to be Masters of the Universe stories at least, but as that is not a fandom I've ever dabbled in: Any recs where to start looking? Gen, would be also welcome. Of course, he meant it in jest, but I have every intention of taking this seriously :D (Besides, not a thing I ever thought about, but if you go away from the intention for children, this could feed my enemy!slash kink very well...;-))
  • Off to make unripe spelt grain(? Grünkern) soup for Lunch!YUMM!

Miscellany collected topics since January or so....

ETA: WTF, LJ cut? I heard of problems regarding this, but this is ridiculous. So no cuts, sorry. Does anyone have a tutorial how to use the new LJ cut properly?

Leverage Season 4

There was so much that I wanted to write about this season of Leverage, but I forgot most of it.
Have what I remember in bullet points:

- I AM SO ANNOYED that they "resetted" the Nate/Sophie Relationship. I can understand wanting to focus on Parker/Hardison, but why do they have to dial it down so much?
- The whole season has been pretty boring and the eps have been pretty predictable so far. Seems like they ran out of ideas after the boom that was S3
- They mentioned Düsseldorf (my town) in one ep :) The one ...
- ... that I loved so very much. Basically it was a Parker/Hardison love-story, but I loved the whole feel of it. And as usual Parker (and her actress) was brilliant in it. Loved the organ playing especially. I had had no idea that there were organs on roller skating rings, back in the day.

Geocaching

This is a GeoCoin I would actually buy, if I were buying them at all.

It's SO pretty!

Game of Thrones

My boyfriend made me watch it. I didn't want to (have also not wanted to read the book) because knowing, going in, that there are too many characters and many of them die is not a good enticement for me.
And sadly that became true. I finally liked a character and woe, he dies. *grumbles*
I do understand the need for it, because this first book basically set things up and the story only now REALLY starts, but I still didn't like it.
What I did like about the show WERE some of the characters and very much so. They kept me watching because I wanted to know what happens to them. And that is why I can't wait for S2 because I REALLY want to know what happens to them.
ANd no, I don't want to read the books because they are too slow. I had a glance into the first one and it goes waaaay to slow ;-)
What is really awesome about this show is, that it has some great actors and the photography is absolutely amazing. It is beautiful to watch.
But what I like the least is the cruelty. Yes, I know, cruel times and realism and all that, but you don't have to SHOW it. If you show a horse and the downward swing of a sword the viewer KNOWS what happens next. You don't have to SHOW the horse being split in two. Same goes for people's heads being chopped off or any other form of killing, maiming, etc.

What I found funny were the sex scenes. Yes, funny. There is quite a bit of nudity and there are a few sex scenes (f/f, too ;-) but they were only there for reasons of exposition, eg. the important character explaining the whore (and the viewer) the background story of himself. Or the owner of the whore house (who is an important political character) talking business with a client who is being serviced at the same time.
I found it funny after it happened several times. Sue me. :D
A few were an exemption to that but they showed the progress the characters made from something akin to rape to caring for each other.

Art rec(Sherlock/John by mariemjs)

So very, very NSFW. But I love her art, because it is so lifelike and this one doesn't disappoint either

Pimping(SH Meetup)

There will be a tri-Country (BE/NL/DE) Meetup on 22nd October in Aachen.
Anyone interested?

Merlin

When does Merlin start again? Why doesn't it start at the beginning of September? Leverage is in its summer break and I have nothing to watch.
All those beautiful stories at paperlegends make me want to watch the boys again. I miss them :(

To get over it have some REALLY pretty boys posing for a gay magazine ;-O (seen at lamardeuse

Next up:

Pics from London (2010), Rome (2011) and Berlin (2011)

Tv Series Rec: Leverage

Wow, a second post, that's a new one.

Anyway since the ending of Stargate Atlantis people have been reccing "Crusoe" and "Merlin" to me. I haven't yet had a chance to check either one of them out, but will do so - soonish. Some have wandered off to "Primeval". (Not for me, reminds me too much of "Jurassic Park")

What I immediately fell for though, was "Leverage" (On TNT, Tuesdays at 10pm, I think, but then I don't live in the US)

Do/DId you love the A-Team?
- Gorgeous men, criminals fighting for justice, cocked up schemes with on the fly scamming, some stuff blowing up, a totally mismatched but still perfect team, fun?

Do/Did you love Ocean's 11?
- Gorgeous men, "good" thieves, intelligent scams, a totally mismatched but still perfect team, fun?

Then "Leverage" is just the show for you.

On top of the things mentioned above it has also pretty (and intelligent) women.
It also has no blood and no nudity (except for one full back (without the posterior) nudity in the pilot). I mind neither, but someone pointed out that it's like The A-Team: You can watch it with your kids and no worries.

So far there hasn't been much slash potential for me, mostly because none of the guys really rock my boat. There was some banter in the first couple of eps between two of the teammembers but that seems to have been abandoned in favour of one of the gyrating towards one of the women.

BUT, I still  love it. It's like A-Team: No matter how down I am, I just need to watch an ep and I feel okay again. I just love the interaction between the characters and how they act as a team. Like I did with Stargate in the beginning, before I knew what Slash was ;-)
I don't mind there's not so much slash there, so far, I still love it and had to rec it.
Thank you, genteelrebel for reccing it to me!

If you decide to watch it, let me know what you think!
