The Hanging Tree, by Ben Aaronovitch. Rivers of London.
--I'm enjoying it. The plot is advancing nicely. The comics tie in but not in a way that makes it awkward if one hasn't read them. (I've been enjoying them too, a tiny bit annoyed that the finale of Black Mould hasn't been released yet.) The dedication to librarians and archivists is both apt and appreciated.
One thing that it is making me think of is crossovers -- Doctor Who is an obvious choice, but there are a number of interesting people Thomas Nightingale could plausibly have crossed paths with. Lord Peter Wimsey (Of a Feather is delightful, but I would love more), Albert Campion, Miss Marple (I've been watching the Geraldine McEwan ones and enjoying them very much), Highlander, Sanctuary, etc.
And I just discovered a Discworld-RoL crossover, which is also wonderful: Rivers of Ankh-Morpork.
