She asked, "I'm curious about what interests you about slave fic; I know youmay not be able or want to discuss it, but, if you can and don't mind,it would be interesting to hear your take on what makes the genre workfor you. :)"

Cut for my exteremely verbose answer. )

But I just have to say, I really, truly and deeply loathe spoiler space. It's required usage has all but killed off my interest in talking about current episodes on lists. Hitting it in a post is like turning on a radio and hitting commercials or a pledge break; it's a huge turn off which makes me want to change the station instantly even though I have a reasonable expectation that if I put up briefly with a minor annoyance I may find something that will interest me afterwards. Also the constant alertness to what does and doesn't require it on various lists kills the initial rush of emotion that is usually required to make me post anything more than purely factual information to lists these days.

To that extent, spoiler notices in subject lines are better but still wouldn't be part of my ideal world, however I am willing compromise with my spoilerphobic friends on that one. . The same with cutaways -- I understand their social utility, but on days when my hands hurt enough that each mouse click is resented I really hate being forced to chose between reading what folks have to say and hurting more.

A short, not-quite-as-serious-as-I'd-like-but-not-too-bad audio article from National Public Radio's All Things Considered

I have been having fun exploring James Tichenor's blog. Tichenor is a visual effects supervisor for Stargate and some of his comments are on his job (both the specifics and more generally, including musing about the industry that I've been finding fun), but there is a lot of wide ranging stuff. Go :-) Have fun.

I spend most of my day at work either listening to the radio (mostly some form or another of Minnesota Public Radio) or music. Over the last couple of days MPR has had a couple of bits that seem to intersect the fringes of my thoughts and wishes regarding fandom. I'm afraid there are no transcripts only real audio files.

One, from the show segment http://news.mpr.org/programs/futuretense/ about Musiclink going non-Profit. I like the concept of Musiclink, which provides what is basically a pay pal-like connection between musicians and fans, but unfortunately I don't think it's a paradigm that will ultimately succeed. While I do have issues with some aspects of the current theory of intellectual property, seeing folks get paid for what they have created is not one of them. Or rather it is. I'm for it.

The other one that caught me was Kurt Anderson speaking on the nature of the amateur spirit which made me think of much of what I like about fandom and about much of what I miss in fandom's source material.

A museum, huh?

Now the real question is will it wander away from the official when it comes to the media part of SF fandom or not.

Thanks to JV for the link.
