work burnout advice

so… i’m pretty sure i’m experiencing job burnout. i’ve only worked at my credit union for five months and i’m already burned out… i’m pretty sure it’s because of the pandemic and my health (or lack thereof). i really don’t want to quit because i like this company.

until i see my therapist in two weeks, does anyone have any solid advice for dealing with this? i’m dragging myself to work and getting annoyed with the people i serve (for example: i’m getting super irritated when members want $20 out and hand me their debit card like there’s not an ATM right there…).

it’s becoming disheartening and is bringing me down. any advice is welcome. :(

fandom advice.

since the p*ndemic started, i decided to join a fandom. my experience has been 100% online, which i’m not used to. if you’re doing the same thing or thinking of doing, this is a list of advice that i wish i would’ve read beforehand (everything was learned the hard way):

  • you WILL meet all kinds of people. this seems like a given, but this includes ones you won’t get along with. i’m (unfortunately) a people-pleaser so this was really difficult for me to understand. you will meet people you do not like or will not get along with and that’s okay. this is the normal course of human interaction.
  • that being said, you don’t have to be friends with every single person within the fandom. you don’t have to put all (or any) effort into making everyone like you because it’s a losing battle.
  • you will disagree with people and probably will fairly often. this is also okay.
  • if something makes you uncomfortable, you notice something oppressive/hate in any way, you can speak up - in fact, i WANT you to speak up. in my experience, there are a lot of people who are way too afraid to or aren’t aware. if you say something, 99% of the time, you will have people in your DMs agreeing with you. you will also help those unaware, well, be more aware.
  • you will meet people who are compliant with bigotry, perpetuate it, or even create it themselves. this also seems given, but it might blindside you (it blindsided me, anyway). you will realize that some of these people are the more popular ones in the fandom. you are not required to be nice to them because they’re popular or anyone in general. you are not required to give them anything they refuse to give to you.
  • you don’t have to talk to anyone you don’t want to. you don’t have to respond to anyone if you don’t want to. if someone is goading you on or trying to start something, you can justifiably remove yourself from the situation and leave.
  • you don’t have to give anyone a reason for setting boundaries. you don’t owe anyone an explanation for putting yourself first.

now that we’ve covered what you don’t have to do, let’s cover what you should (and honestly have to) do:

  • be respectful. also a given, but a lot of people forget this as soon as they open their mouths.
  • respect other people’s boundaries. if someone says what you’re saying makes them uncomfortable, just stop. simple.
  • don’t insert yourself into a conversation/situation you cannot handle. this is a big one to remember.
  • it’s okay to ask for help! this applies to anything and everything.
  • be aware of burnout. take breaks, distance yourself or leave if you have to. don’t feel bad about leaving.

TL;DR: take no shit but give no shit. be kind to others but don’t let anyone treat you like a doormat. you have autonomy and you’re entitled to use it.

the most tragic ADHD thing is starting fights with everyone you love because you don’t have any impulse control and it’s the only way you know how to interact with people. self-sabotage is one of the largest symptoms of ADHD and one of the most common ways we do so is not being able to healthily pick our battles. this is one of the most unnoticeable yet impactful symptoms we experience but nobody talks about it.

🍴😡 for the ask thing

🍴- favorite food(s) to eat?

hm. i like all kinds of food but one of my comfort foods that i gravitate towards is pot roast and stroganoff. two dishes from my childhood. ❤️

😡 - what pisses you off?

literally anything. jk but also not bc i have ADHD/autism overlap so a lot of things overstimulate me which makes me aggressive? if that makes sense? but one thing i really can’t stand is middle-aged cis men standing in my way. they better watch out b/c i’ve lost all given fucks and i’m not afraid to fight.

thank you for the ask friend, stay safe!! ❤️
