okay. so my hiatus will be broken a little for now. this is important. asaiyansmoothie has linked to a lot of sites about the current controversy. go to her journal, and read up. frankly, it's disturbing what is happening.

i don't understand. i really, really don't.

i hope sixapart and all others involved in this unfair censorship realize their mistake. if things like this keep going on, i think a lot of people will be leaving LJ to post somewhere else. (including me.)

though there's honestly nothing we can do about it right now (besides organizing a response), i'm still mad. freedom of speech, anyone? writing about incest isn't the same as doing it. writing about pedophilia isn't the same as soliciting it. how the hell can people assume the intentions of the writers? where else are people supposed to vent about their problems -- whether they are about pedophilia or otherwise? wouldn't law enforcement rather have people writing about their illegal fantasies and purging themselves as opposed to keeping it all inside or committing crime?

i don't agree with the idea that every author who writes incest fic promotes illegal actions. everyone has a right to speak their mind about such things. this is why america is great. writing about incest or pedophilia does not present a clear and present danger to the law. using LJ to allow pedophiles to gather, support one another and continue illegal actions does present a danger to the law. it is a fine line, but it is a line nonetheless.

LJ was supposed to be a safe haven for all sorts of free thinking, where a lot of good writers went to express themselves and their opinions. what happened? is it really just because ad companies are pulling funding? is LJ all about the money now? i understand the importance of the bottom line, but really. what is going on?

i hope LJ will ultimately take a firm stand on this -- one that protects its users, its readers and its writers. though censorship is sometimes necessary, in this case, it is not. it is unfair. it is wrong. and it is sad. it is sad when good writers, good people are knocked for doing what they do best -- contributing their creativity to the intellectual community. granted, some may not understand it as creativity, but there will always be that problem of communication. hopefully, we can solve that problem, and communication between LJ and its shocked, upset users will increase. hopefully, more facts will shed light on why this is happening. hopefully, someday soon, we will all be able to understand each other a little better.
