December Plans | Blogmas, Holidays & Life Stuff

Hello,

December is right around the corner, and I have been really thinking about my plans.

I want to find the right medium between enjoying the holidays and Blogmas. I have done Blogmas in some form since I was introduced to it in 2014. The blogging community has definitely changed since then, but this is still a highlight for most people. I think people would rather watch another person’s routine and holiday stuff though, thus is why Vlogmas reigns supreme in the creative world. I enjoy and support both platforms as they inspire me too.

I will probably be transforming my room for Christmas soon, which will probably make me sad; I’ve loved my fall decorations above my light, but I am excited to change it up and turn it into a little Christmasy winter wonderland. I have a few figurines that I am currently working on that will have a dual design, one for Christmas and the other for wintertime. I’m still debating to get started on my spring decorations, Is it too early?

I also had thoughts about this year’s ornaments. This is another thing I’ve done for a long time now; it started with my nana and I, we did it for several years, and after she moved, I kept up with it. I do everything on my own and I have enjoyed to what it’s grown into in the last seven years, but I just want a break for 2024.

I feel horrible saying it out loud, but I think I deserve a little break. I don’t force myself to do anything. and I know my sanity will be better for it. I hope I can enjoy the process of everything that makes the holidays so magical. I’ve got two elves to entertain this year, and I want to do things with them and the stress of doing my annual ornaments can be overwhelming, so I’m going to devout on being with them.

How do you celebrate the holidays? What is something you look forward to every year? Have you ever experienced a burnout during the holidays?

September & October Playlists

Hello there!

I am so sorry I wasn’t able to upload my September playlist – it started off great and got worse as it carried on, so I just decided to postpone it until this month’s post.

I would like to start off and talk about the new Linkin Park lineup and music though.

As with everyone else in the world, I had heard the rumors about the group coming back and bringing in a female singer. I was intrigued in this new adventure. How would this singer measure up to Chester Bennington? To be quite honest, I wish we didn’t think like this. Nobody will be good enough to replace Chester in the band, however, the band coming back with someone like Emily Armstrong and her raspy voice, she adds a different sound, and I think this works great since Linkin Park as a whole is always changing up the music they create, it’s what keeps them one of a kind.

I like Emily as the new vocalist. I wasn’t expecting a brand-new drummer (Colin) too, but after seven years of not making music and touring together, these guys have different lives now and I was surprised with the number of the original members that are back. Brad Delson is still part of the group, even if he’s not on tour with them anymore.

The first single “The Emptiness Machine” was odd of course. I was nervous when it dropped on YouTube, but I found it to be like a combination of previous songs like “Faint” (2002) and “Waiting For The End” (2010), it felt familiar, and I think that’s why I was able to mesh with it so easily. I had to listen to it twice to really see if I liked it, but not with “Heavy Is The Crown”. I love everything about it. I like the fact Mike is rapping in the band again, and we have a chance to hear Emily’s harsh vocals, and the fact she does this long scream, and I knew she would be fine.

Now that I’ve said my opinion, it’s time to list out my Top 20 songs of September. If you’d like to check out the full playlist, click here to be transported to Spotify.

When a person dies, especially a celebrity of any platform and time, can be memorable. I remember the moment when Michael Jackson died, my mom was crushed. Every part of her life had one or two Jackson, but nothing could prepare her of the day Prince died. She was so sad, and even while listening and watching him perform on stage really upsets her.

She was the one who has told me about the deaths of Chester Bennington and Liam Payne. I didn’t believe her at first. I thought it was a hoax and then I saw the announcements and a part of me was still in denial, but they were in fact real. We had to switch roles for a time to help cope with the pain. When it hit, all I did was remember when Chester died, it hurt so much that for a few days I mourned for each person and their families and friends.

As fans, we might not know these people personally, but they’re a part of us.

We want to see them evolve and be happy in their lives.

When these things happen, it can feel like a gut punch, and you feel like you will never get over it. Time does not heal all wounds, but there are ways to keep them in your hearts. Listen to their music, watch their films and TV shows. Donate to a charity they helped to create, etc.

Anyways, let’s get back into the music and here is the final playlist of the day. Click here for the entire playlist.

Well, that’s it. Hopefully between these playlists you will find something you like. Cross your fingers and toes.

I hope you are enjoying the last few days of October and of course Halloween on Thursday. Please be safe and don’t drink and/or text and drive out there! We’re almost into November people.

What were your listening to? ๐Ÿ’œ

The All Hallows Book Tag!

Hi ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t usually have or see any Halloween-y tags, so I was thrilled to see this one pop up on my Reader a couple of weeks ago. This comes from For Books Sake‘s own blog and Quirinus of X (formerly Twitter – I still call it that by the way!) so I thank both of them for sharing this little gem to the world!

Quirinus actually created two versions of this tag. You have the same ole book tag like I’ve done for many years, but they also posted a This or That version and I liked it so much that I left it for my socials. And please link Quirinus in your posts because this does not belong to me.

I still feel like a newbie with anything to do with horror. This is actually my mom’s wheelhouse, but I have found over the last couple of years, I do enjoy physiological thrillers. I also like plotlines wrapped around getting revenge too. And apparently, I like having a bit of historical fiction mixed in there.

What titles do you recommend for Halloween reading?

I thought long and hard about this question, because I wanted to inspire others to explore their spooky side. So, these are my Top 5 books you may want to look up in the future.

The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

This was my first dip into horror, especially physiological thrillers. I had to read it as part of my Short Stories class in high school. Last year, I decided to reread it and create a proper review to spread the word about this hauntingly and beautifully story. So, if you’re interested in reading what I had to say, click here.

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

After I read TYW, I wanted to continue that slightly ominous vibe and found the audiobook for Rebecca; the character as a whole was intriguing and every mention of her was addicting!

I highly recommend not reading Daphne’s My Cousin Rachel. I’ll be honest, I just wanted to read it so I could watch the film. I will not because I HATED the book, but your opinion could be completely different.

Holly by Stephen King

This was my first ever Stephen King book. I did not know it was brand-new when I began reading it, but I saw an opportunity and I took it. I did not know it was highly political, but I did realize it would be one mystery-thriller that would be all mine. My mom would not read it, because of the things Holly’s mother and Stephen’s thoughts about Donald Trump.

I truly enjoyed the story though. Even though the story focuses on Holly, I was obviously more into the baddies and their scheme, and there are things mentioned in the book that I cannot think differently about ever again.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them by Newt Scamander

In 2022, I finally managed to finish the entire Harry Potter series. and I wanted to celebrate that accomplishment with adding the other books J.K Rowling wrote to accompany the series and since this book is mentioned throughout the books and I love the films so much I decided to grab this book.

It was available on Kindle Unlimited and was a special edition that allowed the illustrations to basically come alive on my Kindle and this totally threw me for a loop in a good way. I did have some moments where I did lose interest, but overall, the book was highly entertaining and made me feel less like a Muggle.

Jack by Layla Fae

This is one of my most-recent reads, and again, I say it in the nicest way possible. For someone who has been exploring cleaner romances, this one nearly took me out. This is about a witch who conjures up a demon, perfect for this time of the year. He appears as half human and half sexy jack-o-lantern. And he tastes of pure pumpkin… ๐Ÿ˜‰

It is very spicy, but also short and that was what I needed at the time. And don’t believe what others say, these types of books are perfectly acceptable as “cheat reads” to complete your yearly goal.

I don’t usually go out looking for spooky reads, but since it’s October, I try a little harder to incorporate some unique reads and I found a new book while strolling through the “new and notable” list on Kindle Unlimited (I’m seriously addicted!) and it is called The Witches of Santo Stefano by Wendy Webb. I didn’t know what I was expecting, but for once I looked at the blurb and saw that it included geneaology and magic and I decided to give it a go and fell completely in love with it.

To my surprise, I found it to be lacking on the thriller side. It definitely has a mysterious vibe to it, but I wasn’t totally terrified. I found it to be nice and unique as it screams like a great summer read because of the setting based in Italy, but you follow multiple generations of women and their relationships and the power of magic.

Everyone in my family believes my nana and papaw’s house was haunted. The upstairs was always an odd and scary place. I loved to sit in the living room alone as long as I didn’t look or think too much about it. We never found anything that would make the house itself haunted, but it is a old house; built in 1901, so the strange noises could be the house of its age.

I’ve never had an actual experience with the paranormal, although i could be wrong. I was always a paranoid child and would cover my ears and side of my head with my blanket to block my eyes while in bed at night because I would overthink about seeing shadows. I might be in my early 30’s, but I still have my blanket up and over me while I sleep.

I still watch Halloweentown, Twitches, Scooby-Doo, and Casper, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve added a lot of creepy and new films onto my list, but I do enjoy slasher films. I recently watched the Scream films. This was a franchise that absolutely terrified me as a kid. Ghostface was my worst enemy, but my sister loved him. This was her first horror movie too, and she’s seen quite a lot of movies over the years and is very opinionated with each one.

I talked about my favorite films to watch this month a couple of years ago, and I’ve did three separate posts catering to your inner child, teenage and adult years. I hope this helps inspire you in the final days of October.

How do you celebrate Halloween?

I love to do fun crafts, like paint pumpkins. My nephew and I are really into it, and this year, we got to include my niece Kimber on the fun. My parents probably should have bought smaller pumpkins for the kids, because these pumpkins were big as Kimber! The most important thing about the whole thing is that they have fun, and they truly did.

Kimber used three colors on her pumpkin, while Nolan went for every paint color I had in my “art” drawer in my room. He made a cute ghost that resembles the one he created on my monthly calendar. He also tried to write out “October” but switched out the “C” for a “S”. and I went for a simpler approach and did white globs all over my pumpkin and added black eyes on each one, except for one as it represents Charlie Brown’s costume on The Great Pumpkin. It’s an easy design to do considering we were a feast for our mosquitos. Oh, and our cats were thrilled we were outside too. At one point my mom joined us and sat on the deck and our cat Grumpy thoroughly enjoyed having her close to him.

Well, I am officially done. I really enjoyed this tag, and I hope you did as well. If you decide to do this tag, please link me so I can see your answers. I’d really like to see what you do with it too!

Summer ’24 Playlist ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฅ‡

Hello everyone.

I’m so happy summer is over. I know I don’t talk a great deal about the music I enjoyed this year, but I want to save some things for the September playlist next week.

As much as I adore autumn, it’s usually a hit or miss for us where we live. We have been experiencing a lot of “Indian Summers” where the summer temperatures will creep back on us when we’re not looking; that’s when my chronic pain kicks up a few notches and I have to watch the trees change colors from my bedroom.

My mom and I have been looking forward to decorating the house for autumn/Halloween. She has really blossomed since having our new porch, as she bought these fake leaves garland to go along the rails and it looks so pretty. She had another wreath for the front, but she didn’t like how it turned out and I liked it with its quirky look, and it now hangs out on the backside of my door.

I have a special light, my dad made it for me a couple of years ago. I have used it in the past for Christmas decorations, but this year I really wanted to create something fun, and I was so excited to bring out my trustee orange and white plaid pumpkins with some family decor like a Halloween globe and little witch that tends to cause trouble every once in a while. My mom had a strand of garland left over and it fits beautifully up on the light.

The final addition are these medium sized lanterns, and they are so cute! They are black and have a little scene in the middle of a haunted house and tiny bats flying in the sky. They have a switch on the bottom and go perfectly with the vibe I wanted to create this year. They were priced nicely, better compared to the wreath I bought… It was such a pretty gothic wreath, but it didn’t want to stay up on the wall and it broke apart. My mom and I were so sad, but I am enjoying what I have in my room to celebrate the new season.

Now that I’m finished, let’s get into the summer playlist. The real reason why you’re here right? No big deal, I’m fine with it. However, I do want to give you a warning that there is a lot of K-Pop included in the 2024 Summer Playlist, so you may want to prepare yourself for this.

If you would like to listen to the whole playlist, click here.

I am still planning on releasing my September playlist next Monday, so that’s why I wanted to keep this on the shorter side. So, keep an eye out for that just in case all of the K-pop isn’t part of your style.

What were your Top 3 or 10 this summer?

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Book Challenge

Hello!

I had found this challenge on Instagram back in May, and I was going to only post it on there, but I’d really like to get back into these types of posts again, especially if they’re as easy as this one. So, everybody is welcomed to join this challenge or tag, whatever you want to call it.

5 Favorite recent reads:

It was actually really difficult to choose because I’ve had quite a few good ones lately, but sticking with my monthly favorites, my favorites have been: The Lady of the Rivers by Philippa Gregory, The Lady of Larkspur Vale by Kasey Stockton, I Am Henry by Jan Henrik Vasterstraten and Massimo Barbato, King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard and Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros.

4 Auto buy (or Most Popular) Authors:

If Kennedy Fox hadn’t broken up earlier this year and then remove all of their books (I’m still not over it!) they’d be in the running for first place, but my other favorites are definitely worthy of every bit of glory, and they are Melanie Karsak, Kasey Stockton (my newest obsession!), Vanessa Vale and Alison Weir.

3 Trobes

This was an interesting search for me, because I wasn’t sure there were any trobes outside the world of romance, but I was wrong and there are TONS of trobes in every category or genre. This website was very helpful.

My favorites are ‘enemies to lovers’ for the romance side; ‘a hero’s journey’ and ‘what life was like’ are definitely directed towards my love of historical fiction. I am naturally thinking about how another person lives, both past and present. I like to see how someone’s perspective of life can change within themselves and/or time.

2 Places to Read:

I only have a few places to read. Unfortunately, I can’t lie on my stomach and lift my own arms and head up (that is certainly too much work!) like most people. However, I do enjoy being able to listen to audiobooks. I was and actually prefer to use YouTube, they have a lot of versions of classic literature, like Charles Dickens, Jane Austen and Oscar Wilde, but there are a few modern authors who upload their own audiobooks to their channels like Kasey Stockton and I tend to search for videos with text or subtitles.

My other absolute favorite place is outside, with my cats. I started with just my book of the moment, but now I take my little “breakfast in bed” table that is at the perfect level for me to do everything from crafts with Nolan to reading and taking notes for my reading journal. I generally have to keep a small space for Chatter or Grumpy to rest on. Thankfully, they are more comfortable to clean and sleep next to me and the table.

1 Book I Can’t Wait To Buy:

As far as I know, I’ve preordered Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros when it comes out in January 2025. It seems like I long wait considering the fact that she had the first two of the series release in the same year… However, I know and understand for the wait. I’m still waiting for Melanie Karsak to release the third book of The Crows and Eagles series, and it’s been pushed back twice…

I am hoping to buy another book that isn’t new but would complete at least one of the book series on my bookshelf and that is the collector’s edition of Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I have the other three in hardback, but not the first book and I’d really like to get least the regular hardcover or the shiny red, sprayed edges with its own case I tend to find on Amazon. I wouldn’t bother getting Glass Sword as I hated that one. Maybe for my birthday since I’ve got OS coming a month afterwards? ๐Ÿ˜

Well, that’s it for this post. I hope you have enjoyed it. I’m truly surprised I didn’t ramble on like I did last week. I really need to stop doing that!

If you decide to do this challenge, whether you post it on Instagram or your blog/YT, let me know in the comments.
