Holmes and Watson

:3

watching tv

I just found the cutest Elementary fic. It's a domestic piece about Joan and Sherlock's life in the brownstone (non-romantic). It features Joan accidentally insulting Sherlock's receding hairline, and clothes sharing, and I think that's something we all need in our lives. :)

Extrapolations.

Now, if you excuse me, I have a salmon to cure.
Feminazi (and proud of it)

Tumblr is exhausting

I wish the Elementary fans on Tumblr could get it into their thick heads that just because a character says questionable things/has questionable opinions, the show doesn't automatically condone it.

ZOMG Sherlock said he didn't want to sit next to an obese person or a child (or an obese child) on a transatlantic flight! The Elementary writers hate overweight people!1!

ZOMG Sherlock called a dog that barked at all men a feminazi! The Elementary writers are misogynist!1!

... Just... Look at the character who said those things. It's Sherlock. He's not nearly as vile as BBC!Sherlock, but that doesn't mean he's a perfect angel. He's flawed. He tries, that's what makes him a compelling character.

If Tumblr had their way, no one except the genuinely evil characters (unless that character is Moriarity, because then they will make excuses for her because she's just so fab and amazing) would ever say or do anything that isn't 100% inclusive and socially concious.

And, that would make for a really boring TV show.

(posted here rather than on Tumblr, because I would just get dogpiled by a bunch of rage-aholic SJWs there. Just the fact that I like John Lennon makes me as bad as someone who casually throws the "n-word" around, apparently!)

Also, it's kind of struck me that the perfect formula for making a show that will never get questioned for its social justice cred on Tumblr is to make a show that doesn't even try. People will squee endlessly over Sherlock and cheerfully ignore the way it treats its female characters, but every fucking thing Elementary does is nitpicked to death.

To quote Homer Simpson, "the lesson is, never try".

ETA: *groans* And now here's the weekly post by someone bitching about the show using female murderers. Last year, these people were bitching about the high percentage of male murderers.

Ugh, this means I'll have to make back up satedan_grabass and sga_smooch at DW too. Damn you, LJ, making me *do* stuff (although, it's also reminding me that I need to start a new sga_smooch challenge, and that's good, I guess).

I haven't decided what to do yet, but just so you know, I'm gaffsie at Dreamwidth (I haven't imported my entries yet, but that's on my to-do list) and Tumblr too.

On a happier note, there's a Elementary ficathon going on right now, and it's already produced some lovely ficlets. I particularly liked the one where Joan and Sherlock negotiate a possible D/s relationship.

I didn't get a chance to watch Thursday's 30 Rock and Elementary episodes until today, because I spent the weekend with my dad, and I didn't bother to bring my laptop since he doesn't have wifi.

Anyway, while I was visiting him, something miraculous occurred: I found a coat that fit me. That has literally never happened to me before. I was resigned to never wearing anything but unisex ski jackets for as long as I lived, since women's jackets refuse to fit my (apparently) mannish back, but I've now found a brand that accepts that women can have broad backs too. The downside is that it's Norwegian, and that they don't have a webshop, but hey, having to travel to Norway every time I want a new jacket is a small price to pay for looking fabulous.

The chain's called Vivikes, and it's my new best friend.
surprise!

TV!

I still really love Elementary. Joan Watson is well on her way to becoming one of my favourite characters in any medium (she's already my favourite Watson - sorry Jude Law!Watson), and this Sherlock is actually pretty adorable. Where BBC!Sherlock is a sulky teenager, CBS!Sherlock is more like a kid; obnoxious to be sure, but still malleable and well-meaning. On a really shallow note, visually speaking, the title sequel is cool as hell (I'm linking to my reblog of it rather than the original post because my layout is less distracting).

I'm both excited and sad about 30 Rock. Excited because I watched the season opener today and it was AMAZEBALLS, sad because now there are only 12 episodes left before it will be over forever. I'm going to miss this show so much. :(

Apart from that, I haven't been watching much, although I did sit through The Big Fat Quiz of the 80s/90s/00s. 80s was pretty boring, to be honest, but the 90s quiz was hilarious, much thanks to the inclusion of the terrifying crime against nature that is Mr Blobby.

The 00s quiz was okay. I happen to really like Richard Ayoade, but he's always insufferable when he's paired with Noel Fielding.

Patience.

I feel like a computer-age Charlie Brown right now.

I ordered a new laptop this weekend, and I keep checking the tracking information to see how much closer it's getting to being delivered. It started its journey in Jönköping, and by midnight (local time) yesterday it had reached Örebro. Since then no word.

C'mon, move, damn you!

ETA: It's time for the actual Elementary series première tonight! I hope it does well, because I could really see myself being a fan of this show.

ETA2: As of 21.02, it's in my city! I should be able to pick it up tomorrow. \o/
