Ananke (Japanese: アナンケ Ananke) is a playable character in Fire Emblem Shadows. She is a member of Notia's Monster Watch and hidden disciple of shadow, first appearing in Book 3.

Biography

Ananke lived in the forest with her family and friends, though the forest died, destroying their home. With nowhere else to go, her family moved into a village in Notia and Ananke joined the Monster Watch, though they lived in poor conditions. To support her family, Ananke volunteered for dangerous missions, which resulted in her being overwhelmed by shadow monsters while trying to protect a village.[1]

She was the only one to survive the attack, though barely. As she lay dying, she was approached by Skoll and Hati, the retainers to Fenris. In exchange for her life, Ananke made a pact to become a disciple of shadow. Ananke's new identity remained hidden, and she tackled missions with greater success after taking some time to recover.[2]

Six months later, Ananke was approached by Skoll, who ordered her to help him and Hati break into the academy. The two tried and failed to convince Rusty to become a disciple of shadow, after which they decided to kill him. Overhearing this, Ananke volunteered to kill Rusty herself after Rusty claims the Sovereign Axe from Notia's labyrinth.

Fire Emblem Shadows

Ananke was made available as a playable disciple on April 15th, 2026. She first appears in Book 3, shadow Chapter 1: A Wish, albeit unnamed. Her first named appearance follows immediately after in shadow Chapter 2: The Wolf's Orders.

Her associated weapon is the Forest Edge Staff.

  1. "We used to live in the forest, my family and friends and I. But then the forest died. We had nowhere to go. Have you ever felt that kind of desperation? So I joined the Watch, and my family found a town to settle in. But life there was...worse than desperation. I worked really hard for my family. I was always volunteering for the riskiest missions. Then it finally caught up to me. I was on the verge of death and now...here I am, a disciple of shadow." — Ananke in Book 3, shadow Chapter 3: Let Me Do It, Fire Emblem: Shadows
  2. "You're being very sweet. But it's been six months. And yeah, I think about it a lot... How I was the only survivor... I took some time away and tried to recover from the shock of it. [...] I'll be fine. The missions have been a lot easier since I came back. I feel ready for this." — Ananke to Rusty in Book 3, light Chapter 4: Two, Together, Fire Emblem: Shadows
