M.A.R.Go.T. (Metro Authority Rapid Governmental Transit System)[1] is a pre-War computer Artificial Intelligence that heads the automated defense system and controls the trains, robots and other maintenance personnel of the Presidential Metro in Fallout 3.
Background[edit]
In service since April 14, 2065, M.A.R.Go.T. connects the White House with the Capitol Building as well as Adams Air Force Base.[Pub 1][2] A nearby maintenance terminal in the metro mentions that M.A.R.Go.T. originally had a male voice, but was changed to a female's voice during its development just so that the system could be given the acronym, which involved flushing the unit's memory and replacing the mainframes circuit array.[3][4]
Her primary function is to protect the metro.[5][6] This entails assisting congressional and military personnel when possible,[7][8] ensuring the safety of these personnel in accordance with U.S. Security Statute A567/B,[9] and playing corporate advertisements over the speaker system.[10]
Specifications[edit]
M.A.R.Go.T. was designed and programmed with a number of advanced features to aid her in the operation of the presidential metro. The installed core central processing and logic unit possesses many different variables and opportunities for thought and learning, as well an extensive memory array.[6] Upon request, a self status report (which grades performance based on a maximum capacity of 100%) can be delivered to authorized personnel, which evaluates functionality of train lines, damaged systems, breached security defenses and uplink success.[11][12][13] The system is also capable of commanding a large number of mechanized security units and designating friendly targets to not be engaged by these security units.[14][15]
Thermal sensors equipped throughout the metro are capable of detecting all persons in the subway through their body heat; they are so precise that the system can actually gauge the amount of radiation a person may be giving off.[16] Magnetic sensors near M.A.R.Go.T.'s mainframe allow for remote scanning for the detection of authorized identification, in the form of keycards worn by personnel.[17] Speech recognition programs were designed to detect voice patterns and tones to distinguish the motive of potentially deceptive intruders.[18][19]

Notes[edit]
Failing to provide identification through one of the methods mentioned above turns M.A.R.Go.T. hostile, causing all of the robots in the Metro to remain hostile towards the Lone Wanderer.
