Jake is an arms dealer in Old Town at The Hub in Fallout.
Background[edit]
Jake was previously a member of a group called the Union of Atomic Workers, which he describes as being similar to the Brotherhood of Steel, albeit "less friendly."[1] He left group to see the world and become his own boss, which he states was the right decision due to the group being wiped out by Super Mutants ten years ago.[1] He settled in the Hub as a high end arms dealer, though has been hassled by the Hub Police on multiple occasions, who dislike his trade.[2][1]
He is experienced in modifying weaponry, as he re-chambered the DKS-501 Sniper Rifle to feed .233 rounds instead of .308 Rounds.[3] He describes his merchandise as the "best stuff you can find this side of the Brotherhood."[2]

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 Vault Dweller: "Tell me about yourself."
Jake : "Well, I've been around. Used to be with the Union of Atomic Workers. Sort of like the Brotherhood, but less friendly. They wanted to keep to themselves, and I... well, I wanted to see the world and be my own boss, so I left. The mutants wiped 'em out about ten years ago, so I guess I made the right decision. I eventually settled down here. The cops don't like my trade and I've been rousted more than once, but I'm a helluva lot more honest than most of the merchants here."
(HUBJAKE.MSG) - ↑ 2.0 2.1 Vault Dweller: "What are you selling here?"
Jake : "I deal with high end arms. The best stuff you can find this side of the Brotherhood, and since the Brotherhood doesn't deal with outsiders, I've gotta' say I'm the best. I have a Sniper Rifle, and you would be hard pressed to find Flame Thrower fuel anywhere else in the wastes. On yeah... I've got a Geiger counter, too. Very rare."
(HUBJAKE.MSG) - ↑ Vault Dweller: "Tell me more about the Sniper Rifle."
Jake : "Ahh, the DKS is a fine long range weapon. It was originally .308, but we rechambered it for the more common .223 round. We tuned the barrel, too. Most importantly, check out this trigger. Smooth, huh? The trigger breaks perfectly now. Overall, this is a good choice for hunting any type of animal..."

- ↑ Another secret: According to Fallout 1 designer, Scott Bennie (who designed some of the central Hub, including Iguana Bob's, Jake's, and parts of the Thieves Guild, as well as the upper floors of the Cathedral), Dogmeat was originally called "Dogshit," and, well...
Scott Bennie: "I came up with the name "Dogmeat"; this was originally Jake's [Hub] dog, and was originally named "Dogshit" (toning it down was a good call in this case), then Tim or Chris applied it to the other, better pooch. :-)"
