Wikipedia:Requests for page importation
This is a place to request that pages be imported with history of pages from other Wikimedia Foundation wikis to here. This might be done if a page was copied and pasted from a WMF wiki to here, or, in the case of the Nostalgia Wikipedia, to make very old revisions accessible. Administrators can import pages from Meta, Commons, the Outreach Wiki, the Test2 Wikipedia site, and the German, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, and Nostalgia Wikipedias to the English Wikipedia (see Phabricator task 22280 for relevant shell permission requests, and to request permissions for importing from more projects). It is also possible to indirectly perform a transwiki import from other projects by using step-wise process through a third project that has a project mapping already created, although using the export/import process may be simpler.
- Guidelines for admins

Check the history of the source page before importing. If there are overlapping edits between the source and destination page, import the edits into the MediaWiki talk namespace, since it is very rarely used. Follow this procedure, where "foo" is the title of the page in the English Wikipedia and "bar" is the title of the source page:
- Import "bar". When asked for the namespace, select "MediaWiki talk".
- Move "foo" to "MediaWiki talk:bar". When asked whether you want to delete the page, answer yes.
- From the "move succeeded" window, there is a link to the page history at "MediaWiki talk:bar". Activate it, perhaps in another tab or window, and there will be some text in the form "View or restore xxx deleted edits?". Activate the link associated with that text and undelete the imported edits that you need. The remaining edits will stay safely deleted in the MediaWiki talk namespace.
- Revert the move you made in step two. Uncheck the box that says "Leave a redirect behind", since redirects from the MediaWiki talk namespace are useless. If you want, you can use the "revert" link in the "move succeeded" window. The page move should go without a hitch.
The same procedure can be used when there are no overlapping edits, but in this case, it's best to move the page first, so the import appears in the page history.
In general, do not use the "assign edits to local users where the named user exists locally", leaving this off will indicate in the history the project the edits came from and you won't have to worry about non-created accounts here.
See User:Graham87/Import for guidelines on importing from the Nostalgia Wikipedia. There is a log of all page imports at Special:Log/import.

- Note by importing user: Not done; we can't import non-English text straight in to the article namespace. However, I wouldn't accept this request either way because I'm highly concerned that you may have a conflict of interest related to the subject of the article. Graham87 (talk) 14:49, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you! However, I do not understand what kind of conflict this would be. InhoffenBS (talk) 14:55, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
- The similarity of your username to the name of the subject and your lack of experience on Wikipedia raise my suspicions. Graham87 (talk) 15:01, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
- As for what type of conflict, being a family member or having had a close association with him would qualify. Graham87 (talk) 15:22, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
- ok, thank you. I am not a family member. The chosen username is not optimal, yes.
- I am a professor (60 years old) in computational chemistry here at the TU Braunschweig. And just wanted to translate Inhoffen's german wiki into English. You are right, I am not an experienced Wikipedia user...
- But there are no personal associations with Inhoffen. He was nevertheless an important figure in steroid chemistry. InhoffenBS (talk) 09:07, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Graham87, if you are willing to allow InhoffenBS to import this article for translation at the location User:InhoffenBS/Hans Herloff Inhoffen I will review the result and its suitability for publication (in my capacity as a new page patroller). Many of the sources on the subject are paywalled but he does seem to be a notable figure. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 13:54, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Reconrabbit: OK, done; thanks very much for the offer. @InhoffenBS: and Reconrabbit, I've done the import now. Graham87 (talk) 15:03, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- thank you, very much!
- How can I proceed now?

- @InhoffenBS: Translate the article and add {{subst:AFC submission/submit}} to it, per the instructions at Help:Userspace draft. For more help, feel free to ask at the teahouse, a friendly space for new users. Graham87 (talk) 14:12, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
- ... done. Thank you very much. Waiting for the review. InhoffenBS (talk) 07:04, 19 May 2026 (UTC)

- Note: This image (now deleted) was long in-use in one of our templates (i.e. {{smiley2}} for about 15 years). I would like a chance to import it and take a look at the copyright against our local standards (and perhaps search for alternatives if necessary). Willing to go through the trouble of getting this temporarily restored at commons (if necessary to import) upon commitment from an importer to import it if I accomplish that. (if there was a better way for me to go about this as a whole, please enlighten me) Warmest regards, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 10:47, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

- @Godsy: I guess ... ask a Commons admin for the description page and upload history by email, and then go from there. There are versions at the Wayback Machine; this is the latest one, which surely doesn't tell the full story. Yeah importation isn't the best for files; they're normally just re-uploaded. Export of File:Echo Lake by Samuel L. Gerry.jpg (to commons)

Sorry if this isn't the right place for it. I can't seem to find a "file export" noticeboard, but if there is one, please move this request from here to there. I am trying to export [[File:Echo Lake by Samuel L. Gerry.jpg]] from enwiki to Wikimedia Commons, but when I do, I get the error message: "Fatal exception of type "RuntimeException." Can somebody please export this file? Thanks. Seckends (talk) 19:32, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
- As purely procedural, the copyright tag is incorrect, see Commons on public domain for artwork:
As a result of this case, anyone taking in the U.S. a mere 'record' photograph of a 2D work of art — plain, full-framed — gets no copyright protection for the photograph. If the original work of art is sufficiently old that its own copyright has expired, the photograph itself will then be free for use on Commons.
Going to take a deeper look through and just verify public domain, but I think this probably still meets the correct license tag for PD of artwork, of life + 70. EggRoll97 (talk) 20:13, 7 July 2026 (UTC)- Alright. @Seckends: I think I'm caught up on the artwork. The question I have is, where did you get Edward Hill from? This appears to be produced by Samuel L. Garry (see for details from the New Hampshire Historical Society). It also appears to be named "Echo Lake", not "Presidential Range". Would you like me to move the file to the correct titling and authorship? EggRoll97 (talk) 20:31, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
- Yes. Seckends (talk) 21:52, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
