A question about userspace drafts
editI see you have been removing AfC draft notices from numerous userspace drafts, and I wondered why. JBW (talk) 21:36, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- @JBW: CAT:AFCU/D is a pseudo-category that I have monitored for the past few years (have not checked it in a while, hence the volume today — went through all of the pages in it; approximately 15% of the 100 or so pages in it required remedy). AfC is a voluntary process. Anyone is welcome to submit a page through the system for consideration. When this occurs, the page will generally be moved to the draft space (and no longer be a 'personal' user draft). However, applying an unsubmitted AFC template in userspace of others only serves to make that page eligible for G13. It is tantamount to backdoor deletion in the userspace of another if the page goes unedited. {{Userspace draft}} provides all of the helpful links and benefits to the user in question, without the nasty side effects. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 21:59, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for explaining your reason, though I don't agree with it. JBW (talk) 22:36, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
User categorization
editHello, I'm Est. 2021. Although I know you're an experienced contributor to Wikipedia, it's important to be mindful of the feelings of your fellow editors, who may be frustrated by certain types of interaction, such as your edits to User:Est. 2021/Userboxes, User:Churba/Userboxes and User:Pr3st0n/My Babel, among others. While you probably didn't intend any disturb, please do remember that users are free to choose whether they prefer to have userboxes and user categories placed on their main userpage or another subpage of theirs, as that's the whole point of having a subpage entirely dedicated to userboxes and user categories. In light of that, it would be greatly appreciated if you could avoid such edits. Thank you. – Est. 2021 (talk · contribs) 18:26, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Est. 2021: Super short on time, so my apologies if the tone of this reply sounds unintentionally curt. I added the newly created category, i.e Category:Wikipedian bartenders (which I also created on August 2, 2025) to Template:User bartender → on August 2nd of this year. So, actually, this edit left your choice unchanged (or in the status quo technically)! It also honors the text on the category page, "please include only your user page in this category, not any sub-pages" (which I borrowed from Category:Wikipedian beekeepers). Warmest regards, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 20:52, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Est. 2021: ~(still traveling)~ Hello again
. In regard to Category:Redirectionist Wikipedians: solely one (sub-or-not)page per user in each category is likely tolerable (though not ideal — we seemingly disagree philosophically on the nature of the matter, which I would be happy to discuss another time). But LB22 should not be listed in that category 6 times. It seems your userpage got caught in the crosshairs of my remedying that; I am content with your reversion on your user subpage and offer my sympathy. However, I stand by the other ~5 category removal collection of edits as appropriate (per this comment and the above). I too maintain a subpage for userboxes, User:Godsy/Userboxes, intentionally without 'messing up' the categories (my characterization) — though that is an aside. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 02:48, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Godsy, thanks for the comment. I kinda agree with you about each user only being listed one time (or two I guess, as I've seen valid exceptions) per each category, not six times in a row in the same category. I suppose we could simply inform such users (eg. LB22) about that, asking them to not list themselves more than one time (or two) per category, leaving then to choose which (sub-or-not)page. Would you agree? Est. 2021 (talk · contribs) 12:22, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Est. 2021: That very well might be a fruitful solution in general, if anyone desired. In the case of LB22, however, I doubt a notification would be helpful given that the last time they were active (bar one edit in 2013) was 15 years ago (2009). Most solutions would be more of an encroachment into their user space (likely requiring massive substitutions of templates etc.) and quite a bit of work. They also lack a main userpage, so one cannot simply induct them in the category normally to preserve the potential intent. Unfortunately, I think simply removing them from the category (as I did before) is the most well-rounded solution in this case.
- In regard to the other template/category, I plan to restore the edits I made to the userspace to preserve the status quo and honor the category instructions (which has precedent) bar any objection. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 09:14, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

editHi, hope you're doing well! Speedy redirect of Draft:Jonah and the Great Fish (Whale)
editWhy did you speedy redirect Draft:Jonah and the Great Fish (Whale) to Jonah#The fish, against growing consensus? Looking at the examples on WP:SRE, they all show a growing consensus to either delete or redirect, which is not the case here. Wikipedian Talk to me! or not… 10:42, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Star walker: A speedy redirect is functionally a keep, and both 'keep' arguments presented (one much more explicitly than the other) argue that the page being listed at the venue is unnecessary. Moreover, all potential concerns are addressed. The article now leads to the section where the nominator admits it is already covered, it can no longer in any way be construed as a blog, and no more time will be spent considering what some consider to be nothing more than a bother. This is also clearly in-line with SRE:
it may also be appropriate to speedily redirect a particularly poorly developed draft to a matching well-developed section of an article.
If either Organhaver or Robert McClenon (said "keepers" in question) have any qualms with my close, I will happily re-open the discussion. Otherwise, I am comfortable with it. To your point about the 'examples', those were the precedents that led to the creation of the guideline (not how it has been implemented after which may or may not differ somewhat). Warmest regards, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 11:10, 11 June 2026 (UTC) - @Organhaver and Robert McClenon: previous ping(s) did not seem to go through, thus resending. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 11:25, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- I either didn't see this until now or looked at it and didn't think it required my attention. I voted to Keep because I didn't agree that it should be deleted for being a blog post. I am usually in favor of speedy redirection of drafts. This is a marginal case that I will accept as a valid exercise of judgment by the closer. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:14, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
First, I don't know for sure if I owe you an apology for having taken another editor at their word that you weren't a regular participant at MFD. I thought it was more urgent to strike the incorrect material than to apologize.
I am back to my initial interpretation that your action was reasonable and that reverting a relist was out of line. I didn't realize that SmokeyJoe has been continuing to revert relistings at MFD. It appears that he doesn't accept the RFC that sometimes MFD discussions can be relisted, and has taken on the responsibility of enforcing his own rule against relisting MFDs.
I don't know whether discussion will continue at ANI or move to WT:MFD and so will be ready for either. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:57, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Robert McClenon: I appreciate it, my friend. The notion of my potential non-participation was shaken off easily enough; I managed to stop the snowball before it rolled too far down the hill.
- I really do hope we can largely put any questionings and grumblings about relistings at MfD (one way or another) to bed once and for all. Stretching an issue thinly, with periodic grand resurfacings, over a decade is far too long in my book. Warmest regards, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 04:58, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
MfD
editHi there. Regarding your question, which I removed from my talk page - just an error on my part, should have been G6. This is a pretty heavy WP:DENY case. OP should have asked the blocking admin rather than starting that discussion, but even before that, none of it should have happened in the first place. General cocktail articles
editHey Godsy, following up on your comment at WT:FOOD. We currently have a few articles on cocktails by alcohol (beer cocktail, cocktails with cachaça, whiskey cocktail), but are missing articles on a few others (e.g. rum cocktail, gin cocktail, vodka cocktail etc.). I'm going to have a go at producing general articles on these rather than mere lists; let me know if you're up for collaborating or otherwise lending assistance. Regards, Whonting (talk) 02:01, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Whonting: We do have a list cocktails by base spirit at List of cocktails, which may be a helpful starting point. I would certainly be interested in reading information compiled regarding the history of cocktails involving the 7 'mother spirits' (a play on mother sauce if you will), i.e. brandy, gin, liqueurs, rum, tequila, vodka, and whiskey. Enough well-sourced content for a standalone article may be possible (if not, expanding a section at the aforementioned list or eleswhere would be an option). Liqueurs would certainly be an interesting category for this task, given the diversity therein. I have been personally wanting for good information regarding specific subtypes of, particularly, liquors, liqueurs, and brandies (and certain brands). Feel free point me to any drafts to take a look at (would suggest userspace or a wikiproject subpage per WP:DUD) or drop by here to chat with any musings. I hope you have better luck with finding reliable sourcing than I have. Warmest regards, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 04:32, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks Godsy, apologies for the delay, my attention on here can be somewhat flitty. I've gotten a start on vodka cocktail, which I will continue at until my interest runs out. Some questions, if you are able to offer input.
- Any thoughts on integrating a list?
- I'm also not sure about titling, sources do use the term "vodka cocktail" but don't really define it. I say that because the overarching category is Category:Cocktails with vodka, which introduces itself as "Cocktails made predominantly with vodka." and I presume excludes Vespers etc. The lead of vodka also introduces "It is also used in cocktails and mixed drinks", which would apparently exclude Vodka Red Bull although I wouldn't want to get too fussy with those boundaries.
- In terms of linking to the new page, how might you suggest introducing a link in Screwdriver (cocktail)?
- Whonting (talk) 09:31, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Whonting:
- I have often pondered a 'cocktail' vs. a 'mixed drink'. A cocktail is always a mixed drink because it always contains two or more ingredients. However—in everyday use—simple mixed drinks, e.g. a vodka soda, rum and coke, gin & tonic are referred to as such because they are less complex. I need to look at some of the premier bartending books to see if this is formally demarcated. As far as for the article, I would say: include Vodka Redbull! We seem to play fast and loose with the terms across articles; e.g. whiskey and coke is called a cocktail. On an aside, I am shocked we do not cover vodka soda. Other than that, I may play with the see also section a bit and look at the redirects, but the new article looks wonderful.
- I would be wary of a list because it would largely duplicate List of cocktails § Vodka; I think I prefer linking to that somewhere in the article. The ideal place to do this would be in a section that covers broad classes of vodka cocktails (if possible and they exist) and naturally naming ones that exemplify (through popularity, groundbreaking-ness, notoriety etc.) said class. Vodka cocktail is far superior in its current state than, say, whiskey cocktail.
- The cheap and dirty way of including this at screwdriver (cocktail) would be to change the second sentence of the lead from
While the basic drink is simply...
to 'While this vodka cocktail is simply...'. I really do not mind that, but I will ponder and implement it if I think of a better manner. - 'Vodka cocktail' is good. I cannot really think of another way to put it that would trump that as, at the very least, the common name.
- That is not in anywhere near the same order as you asked things, but—sorry—I was rolling on a stream of consciousness
. - Yours, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 11:32, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
- This is awesome, I've read it back around 4 times. It all sounds good and I don't really have anything more to say but yes -- I have added a transcluded list but I'm not really happy with it and were I to find a source producing a taxonomy I would substitute that. I was also shocked we don't have an article on vodka soda, but looking over the sourcing apart from a bit on the gender and queer angles , there really is very little to nothing of substance written on it. Whonting (talk) 12:07, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks Godsy, apologies for the delay, my attention on here can be somewhat flitty. I've gotten a start on vodka cocktail, which I will continue at until my interest runs out. Some questions, if you are able to offer input.
- @Whonting: Took a shot (just a stub for now) at covering vodka soda. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 07:51, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for this, glad you didn't bloat it with extraneous detail. I'll have a look in this vid to see if there is a screenshot / video sequence I can add in place of that wall of vodka. Whonting (talk) 08:25, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

Pronouns
editHi Godsy,
Someone suggested my assumption of your preference for male pronouns is inappropriate. Do you have a pronoun preference? He/she/they? SmokeyJoe (talk) 04:08, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
- @SmokeyJoe and Robert McClenon: It is not something that I draw attention to; perhaps I even shy way from it. A good way to check is {{gender}}, for example
{{gender|godsy}}produces 'she'. I suppose that is my preference, but I will also respond to the genderless he (as I rationalize it to lack gender in my mind). I appreciate you looking out for me, Robert McClenon. I enjoy being a fellow contributor. Articles for Creation backlog drive
edit
Hello Godsy:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 5000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
