Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/The Rambling Man

An arbitration case regarding The Rambling man has now closed and the final decision is viewable at the link above. The following remedies have been enacted:

1. The Rambling Man (talk · contribs)'s resignation as an administrator is to be considered under controversial circumstances, and so his administrator status may only be regained via a successful request for adminship.
2. The Rambling Man (talk · contribs) is prohibited from insulting and/or belittling other editors. If The Rambling Man finds himself tempted to engage in prohibited conduct, he is to disengage and either let the matter drop or refer it to another editor to resolve. If however, in the opinion of an uninvolved administrator, The Rambling Man does engage in prohibited conduct, he may be blocked for a duration consistent with the blocking policy. The first four blocks under this provision shall be arbitration enforcement actions and may only be reviewed or appealed at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard. Should a fifth block prove necessary, the blocking administrator must notify the Arbitration Committee of the block via a Request for Clarification and Amendment so that the remedy may be reviewed. The enforcing administrator may also at their discretion fully protect The Rambling Man's talk page for the duration of the block.

   Nothing in this remedy prevents enforcement of policy by uninvolved administrators in the usual way.

3. The Rambling Man (talk · contribs) and George Ho (talk · contribs) are indefinitely prohibited from interacting with, or commenting on, each other anywhere on Wikipedia (subject to the ordinary exceptions).
4. George Ho (talk · contribs) is indefinitely restricted from participating in selecting main page content. For clarity, this means he may not participate in:

   1. Any process in which the content of the main page is selected, including Did you know?, In the news, On this day, Today's featured article, Today's featured list, and Today's featured picture.
   2. Any process in which possible problems with the content of the main page are reported, including WP:ERRORS and Talk:Main Page.
   3. Any discussion about the above processes, regardless of venue.

   He may edit articles linked from or eligible to be linked from the main page (e.g., the current featured article) and may participate in content review processes not directly connected to main page content selection (e.g., reviewing Featured article candidates). He may request reconsideration of this restriction twelve months after the enactment of this remedy, and every six months thereafter.

5. The community is encouraged to review the selection process for the Did you know and In the news sections of the main page. The community is also reminded that they may issue topic bans without the involvement of the Arbitration Committee if consensus shows a user has repeatedly submitted poor content, performed poor reviews, or otherwise disrupted these processes.

Survivor cast photos

Hi George Ho. You been tagging a lots of Survivor cast photos uploaded by User:JoyfullySmile for speedy deletion per WP:F7. I'm not disputing your reasons for doing so and want to thank you for digging through Getty's inventory to verify the images as being {{db-f7}}. I'm only posting to remind you to ask you to notify the uploader of the issues with these files, particularly the one you brought to FFD. I don't think you need to add a notification for each of the F7 files, but it would be a good idea to at least post something (possibly including a list of the files) to explain why the files are a problem per F7. Not only will this be courteous, but it might also help the uploader avoid making the same mistake again in the future. Perhaps you were intending to do this, and I'm just being premature by posting about it here; I apologize if that's the case. AS I'm sure you probably know, F7 deletions can happen fairly quickly (particularly those tagged per WP:GETTY), and it can also be easy to forget about a file you've tagged after it has been deleted when you're busy with other things. Another advantage of notifying the uploader is that it shows an good-faith attempt was made to make them aware of an issue with their uploads; so, if they continue to uploaded similar files in the future despite said warning, an administrator will be less inclined to cut them some slack and more inclined to issue a block. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:50, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

I think a user talk page notification is probably better than a ping: a user can set their preferences to ignore pings, but that won't be an issue with a user talk page post. F7 deletions can happen quite quickly, sometimes even before you have time to add a notification; so, a user talk page post might end up being noticed before an article talk page post. This user appears to be editing in good-faith and just is not familiar with things like F7. They appear to be monitoring their user talk page; so, it might be better for you to post something their as well, even if it's just a {{Please see}} template to the article talk page discussion you started. As for FFD, you should though notify them of the FFD discussion per the "Instructions" given at WP:FFD. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:03, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

Here's the issue: the user always changes or empties one's own talk page. Unsure whether I should post at the talk page, especially about one FFD discussion. Whether a user blanks their user talk page of notifications isn't really relevant to the notification itself; they're allowed to do so per WP:BLANKING. However, they can't blank their talk page and then claim later they weren't notified; moreover, it will be assumed that if they blank their talk page of notifications that they read the notifications and understood what they meant. FWIW, the F7 template instructions do say "consider notifying", but the FFD instructions are much more strongly worded and say "Give due notice". Moreover, relying on bots to do something you can easily do yourself doesn't necessarily transfer the responsibility to the bot if something goes amiss. FWIW, I only meant this post to be a friendly one. I wasn't trying to pressure you into doing something you don't want to do. It's up to you I guess, but non-free content deletions often become quite contentious; so, taking the high ground from the beginning at least by notifying the uploader can sometimes avoid the discussion from being heated right from the start and makes it clear that you're acting in good-faith.-- Marchjuly (talk) 06:24, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

Greetings, I am experiencing my own world of health issues. While I do not agree that a single image should be featured in the article, I have a couple of concerns. I was going to advertise in a couple of places, since it is an RFC. I looked at previous involved editors. I have had AFD's derailed because SPAs got involved instead of marking and ignoring. Hi George Ho, with regard to this revert of your recent change, please note that our Manual of Style states that as an exception to the standards on English variations, "Proper names use the subject's own spelling, e.g., joint project of the United States Department of Defense and the Australian Defence Force;" Thus, even on an article that explicitly uses British English, the correct (and direct) link is Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, not Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (with or without a piping). In addition to that, I also won an emmy for as a castmemeber on the peacock hit show traitors. In additonal I am also a game dev, who contribbutes daily to the game dev community, you may know some of my friends, Eddmund McMIllen, and Derek Yu to name a few. In additon to that, I know you are viewer of my dear friend Northernlion, I do not think he would appreciate the targeted SEO attack. In additon I also am familar with your favorite RTV person Ian Terry. Just to put it in context, the final edit I did was based on the clear consensus of the discussion, where multiple editors had also complained about the misleading clickbait 'headline'. Yes, it was reverted, which is just ownership or IDONTLIKEIT, given there was a false rationale for the revert and a strong consensus that the change was necessary. (And yet here I am, the bad guy!). What you do with the context—whether you post the context at the case, ignore it or remove the evidence altogether—is entirely up you - I make no demands over it, I just thought you should be aware that much of the "evidence" against me should be seen in it's context. Honestly, I thought I exactly knew the history of WP:civility. However, I read the notice box at Wikipedia talk:civility about the policy itself and then realized that the page was made in early 2004. It then became policy in mid-2004.

According to the notice box there, as I learned recently, perhaps whatever went on between Larry Sanger and another editor back in early 2000s (see one user's biased essay against Sanger) must've motivated the community into adopting the Civility policy. Hey, Wikipedia was at its early developmental stage back then, and number of editors were increasing further and further.

The gap between Wikipedia's establishment and the policy's was three years, nevertheless. Over time, the policy grew and grew, but even the (in)consistency of enforcing the civility policy got to the point where the ArbCom opened the "Civility enforcement" case in 2012. You can try looking over other civility-related cases at WP:Arbitration/Index/Cases, especially ones after that. You can also look at past discussions at User talk:Jimbo Wales about the civility policy itself.

Sure, the consistency of enforcing the policy has been... seemingly suspect, and even "old accounts" vs. "new accounts" (in Larry's words) (or experienced vs newcomer) stuff hasn't helped matters. However, the policy has been in place for further stability of the project since the policy's establishment.

Whatta Man/What a Man Requested Move

Hello, I see that about a decade ago you requested that What a Man (song) be moved back to it's previous title Whatta Man. Any interest in opening up that discussion again? I don't think the people that opposed this realized what the difference is between a cover song and an interpolation is. Nor do I think the closing administrator realized that a consensus of 5 to 4 was reached. "What a Man" by Lynda Lyndell and "Whatta Man" by Salt-n-Pepa are two totally distinct and seperate songs. @Script7921: If that user's edits get reverted, more likely the edits made by that user may not have been constructive all along, but I can stand corrected. That user has been sufficiently warned enough to be, if the user makes such edits again, reported to either WP:AIV (for obvious vandalism, like possible hoaxing vandalism) or WP:ANI (if not vandalism).

Unsure whether we should discuss this here or at Talk:Aubry Bracco, honestly. Personally, I have had general concerns, if not disdains, about making another winning Survivor returnee automatically notable just for winning in a subsequent season.

Tried brainstorming what to do about winning returnees at WT:NBIO, but even the consensus implicitly rejected making criteria for reality TV contestants overall (link, revision). Well, WP:articles for deletion/Tyson Apostol (2nd nomination) should've set the standard, though Tyson Apostol article itself was restored via the AfC process.

Also, personally, I'd just create Draft:Aubro Bracco and then add the {{subst:afc draft}} or or {{draft article}} if I were you. Though AfC is optional... and has been heavily backlogged, my recent Draft:List of Project Runway finalists (seasons 1–5) was rejected. I've initiated RMs, but capitalization stuff I've rarely or never been interested in this decade. As I figured, I just wanna make my say about that... and wanna be more familiar with that subject, especially to avoid or reduce some type of scrutiny.

As for trans healthcare stuff, I've still thought about editing almost (if not exactly) none of the pages, but thought about editing certain biographies, like Veejay Floresca... Well, still working on Draft:List of Project Runway finalists (seasons 1–5), and thought about creating List of Project Runway finalists (seasons 17–present) if the (other) draft page is AfC-approved. Not just because Veejay is a trans woman... or her identity or gender or something like that. Indeed, I still have concerns about her notability as a reality TV contestant... like other less-notable reality TV winners.

As for the user's T-ban and essay, I just like to make my say about those as well and express my interpretation.

If making a comment at ARCA might get me in trouble, then.... perhaps I should be careful of my own words then.

As to notifying YFNS that her comment was too long, I appreciate the energy, but that's not something we want folks doing. We talk about it with our clerks, and sometimes we'll alert people, sometimes we'll have the clerks deal with it, sometimes we have a reason to let it slide.

As for chiming in at ARCA, that is welcome, and we appreciate folks giving constructive input. But just be careful that you're not saying something just to say something. For example, the post that got removed was a self admittance that you had no opinion about...anything that was being discussed. That may be very Socratic of you, but we do want folks to have something of value to add in ArbSpace. George, most of this response is defensive and apologetic, so I think you understood me to be asking you some kind of "trap" question where there are hidden consequences waiting for you. Well, it's not like I have ulterior motives or self-interests or trying to build a resume or to improve my reputation or something like that. Also, it's not as if I'm stumbling upon any user conduct/dispute without fully knowing the situation or the case or something else similar. ...Well, I'm trying to (re)learn the ropes of the ARCA process but have never intended to take advantage of anyone else's disputes (especially just for self-achievements or something like that, and I wouldn't care less whether I was able to make an article a GA or an FA... or...).

As I hate to admit, I sometimes have sympathy for others, but then the one I was ten years ago was too bold requesting amendment on bans and whatever I because I was too sympathetic on site-banned editors especially. In recent years, I've learned to step aside my compassion and sympathy for others and let things go (and not interfere too much), so I don't have to come across as someone who doesn't know what one gets oneself into.

I saw your reverted comment, and I have been awaiting your response here or have thought about responding at your talk page.

I have never meant to imply sockpuppetry or meatpuppetry. Indeed, re-reading WP:sockpuppetry and WP:civility and WP:BITE, I can't help wonder whether I should've used a different substituting template instead of {{subst:uw-login}}, which I placed at both talk pages of those temp. accounts. Indeed, dunno whether I accidentally violated (the spirit of) the civility-based rules, but I've yet to see myself violating the lettering of those rules.

Perhaps I should raise concerns at WT:civility about making any more implications before posting comments that may be interpreted as implications or something like such.

Oh, and I've never meant to assume that you and the two temp. accounts are the same person or that those accounts are meatpuppets. Indeed, when it comes to (now-)non-notable Whitney Webb, I just jumped the gun and thought I was careful not to jump into conclusions. Thankfully, I didn't create the SPI case; that would've been worse. Nevertheless, making implications is something I thought I'd avoided. As far as I recall it was mostly just one temp account from the person in question, but there was one edit from a second that seemed to correct a typo of mine, but got it wrong, not that this matters much. Curious, I checked for the two accounts you claimed you put a template on and they're two different ones, since the one I said incorrectly corrected a typo on Webb's page had his edit deleted along with the page there would be no record of that, and I don't know if the second one is the same, but if it was the same computer as the other one it would presumably have automatically signed in to the same number. Those are the two on the AfD page, one that I found directly from the page, but when I checked for the other I assumed you were talking about the one correcting a typo and didn't think it was on the AfD page, so I checked your contributions, and since it was on the top I quickly found it and realized it was the person who immediately deleted his own comment but I can't check if it was the person that corrected the typo incorrectly.
