Question from MindBlownSouth (09:15, 12 June 2026)

edit

Hi can you help me edit the new page I created about Peter Layton. An artist I recently discovered after listening 🎧 to Desert island discs on BBC radio 4. I noticed he didn't have a Wikipedia page even tho he is a very well known artist (in the art world, even Elton John has one of his pieces) --MindBlownSouth (talk) 09:15, 12 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@MindBlownSouth Hello! I took a look at Draft:Peter Layton.
Making an acceptable WP-article without knowing how to edit WP is hard. A common advice is to "just" edit for a while first, to try to get a hang of this place.
That said, your first hurdle is "Can a WP-article about your chosen subject be written at all?" Googling a little, I think it can, but you need to change your approach and do some reading and more research. It seems your links are all WP:ABOUTSELF, written by Layton or his associates. You've then WP:COPYPASTEd that stuff into your draft. But as a Wikipedian, you're not here to repeat what Layton has to say about himself, we're not here to "sell" him.
You need WP-better sources, see WP:GNG. I recommend looking at He's had a long career, so if you can check in newspaper archives, that could help you further, but what you find on Google might be enough. Read the WP:RS you find and summarize them in your own words.
If you decide to go ahead, you need to learn how to add references correctly, WP:TUTORIAL can help with that. This is crucial, and I can't stress that enough. Really.
Hope this helps some! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:57, 12 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
hi I understand but can someone help me create a page for this artist that complies with Wikipedia? I have no idea how to create a legitimate & accurate page that complies with the above.
Yours hopefully, Luke (MindBlownSouth) MindBlownSouth (talk) 10:10, 12 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@MindBlownSouth Not impossible, but you have to get lucky and find someone who's interested in the subject and wants to spend some time on it, WP is a hobby. You can try asking in places like Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Arts, but it's likely you'll have to do the heavy lifting yourself. The immediate problem with your draft is the WP:COPYVIO (big no-no around here), otherwise you could have worked on over days and weeks at your own pace, until you wanted to submit it. More guidance at Help:Your first article. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:29, 12 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Shivgi291025 (03:38, 15 June 2026)

edit

Hi there, I had recently requested to change the title of our company page to HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates, however I see Wikipedia has changed it to HBA(company) and redirected to HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates.

Is there a way i can just have 1 page with Hirsch Bedner Associates as the name please instead of 2 pages now --Shivgi291025 (talk) 03:38, 15 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Shivgi291025 Per Talk:HBA_(company)#Requested_move_to_Hirsch_Bedner_Associates it seems you found the right process. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:12, 15 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Gråbergs Gråa Sång, I have requested Wikipedia to revert back to the original title of Hirsch Bedner Associates for its Wikipedia page, however, it doesnt seem to answer my query? May i seek your guidance on how I can request to revert back to original please Shivgi291025 (talk) 15:19, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Gråbergs Gråa Sång, the page has now been updated to Hirsch Bedner Associates.
I wanted to ask if Wikipedia allows us to rename the page as (HBA) Hirsch Bedner Associates instead? Does having a bracketted name cause any issues ? I wanted to seek your advice on this prior to requesting the name change of the page. Would greatly appreciate your guidance on this! Shivgi291025 (talk) 05:01, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Shivgi291025 The basic WP-approach is that the title of an article should be the WP:COMMONNAME, which isn't necessarily the official name (or what the subject prefers). I haven't tried to check what that is, but I doubt (HBA) Hirsch Bedner Associates is it, and parenthesis aren't generally (if ever) used like that on WP, HBA (song) is an example of how "we" do it. HBA is "taken" so one alternative could be HBA (company) if HBA is the WP:COMMONNAME. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:20, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Gråbergs Gråa Sång, I appreciate the guidance and advice! May I ask if another alternative could be HBA Hirsch Bedner Associates instead or maybe HBA (Hirsch Bedner Associates) ? Shivgi291025 (talk) 06:44, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
You can suggest them (as in start another "Requested move"), but IMO they are unlikely to be accepted. Pinging @Maltazarian if you wish to comment. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:50, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah it's going to need another RM, and no I don't think one would be likely to succeed.
Editors who have the ability to move pages (admins and page movers) have no more right than any other editor to decide the title. There is a responsibility to not move pages without consensus (see WP:CONSENSUS) if there is reason to believe other editors might disagree with a move. This applies here, as shortly after the title was changed from Hirsch Bedner Associates to HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates, @CambridgeBayWeather saw the new title and, after looking into it, changed it to HBA (company) and leaving a summary indicating they felt it did not abide by WP:COMMONNAME.
It's unlikely to succeed because readers are unlikely to think of it's name as being the initials of the full name and the full name combined; it is significantly more likely for readers to think of the company as either being called HBA or Hirsch Bedner Associates. This matters because Wikipedia's article title naming policy prioritizes making titles match reader expectations as much as possible over the titles being technically correct or "official" (see WP:OFFICIAL). This is in order to make it easier for readers to find what they're looking for and to avoid unnecessary confusion (for example, Switzerland, not Swiss Confederation).
That said, the article is allowed to let readers immediately know what the official/trade name of the company is, and any alternative names, including official/trade names such as HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates, are allowed to exist as redirects to the company's article, allowing it to accessed by searching for that name. ⹃Maltazarian parleyinvestigate 08:21, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Maltazarian thank you for the feedback! Just to clarify, in summary, does this mean that we should just stick to Hirsch Bedner Associates for now instead of changing the name to (HBA) Hirsch Bedner Associates or maybe HBA (Hirsch Bedner Associates)?
Am I right in also understanding that we cant change to solely HBA as the name is already taken and when we changed to HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates, it created a sub page and also changed to HBA(company) which was because the name formartting didnt match WP:COMMONNAME ? Got it ! @Gråbergs Gråa Sång, why is the Hirsch Bedner Associates Wikipedia page suddenly nominated for deletion? Can we please stop the deletion and also advise on how we can prevent it from being deleted. it is quite urgent Shivgi291025 (talk) 05:50, 26 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Because one editor thought it should be deleted and started the appropriate discussion. You are welcome to participate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hirsch Bedner Associates, standard is that the discussion will last for at least a week, then it will be closed by an uninvolved editor. If you can, bring the best 3-5 WP:GNG-good sources you can think of, your hurdle is WP:N. Help:My article got nominated for deletion! has some guidance. @Gråbergs Gråa Sång please see my reply above, apologies that I missed out on tagging you Shivgi291025 (talk) 06:27, 26 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
You never have to tag/@ someone at their own talkpage, it has no extra effect. Me "pinging" you on this page has an effect, WP:NOTIFICATION. You do that in other discussions, like you did with Pppery at the afd, then it "works".
The Notable Projects thing is something you can discuss with the other editor at Talk:Hirsch Bedner Associates, but since the afd is ongoing, it may not be time well spent for now.
I'll make a comment in the afd. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:02, 26 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Greg, thank you for the guidance! I read through Wikipedia:When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia article, and I understand that I shouldn't have edited directly onto the Hirsch Bedner Associates page, but instead done it through the company's talk page.
However, since now the mistake has been made, I am trying to see how I could revive the page.
I have found some links that could support. Could I send these to the deletion discussion page and whom can I tag when contributing to the discussion, how do I contribute to the discussion constructively to hope for my appeal for the page to be retained?
  • If I may also add, I noticed other design firms such as Gensler, HOK, Perkins&Will having citations to their own website pages, how does that work? I am genuinely confused (and trying to understand), as I do not want to make the same mistakes again when adding the content to the Hirsch Bedner Associates Wikipedia page.
Some links I found that support on the longstanding presence of Hirsch Bedner Associates. Kindly advise if these may be worthwhile to add.

Wikipedia is very uneven in quality. We have a ton of rules, but one of those is that you don't have know the rules to start editing. Editors, who mostly are hobbyists, pick what they want to spend their time on. There are plenty of articles here that needs improvement and perhaps deletion. This will happen when/if someone notices and decide to spend some time on it. Is it possible articles on other companies are in the same shape as the HBA, have been edited by employees/PR-people and could also be deleted? Heck yes, COI-people edit WP all the time, and the Wikipedians deal with it when they notice. Sometimes we notice because media notice it first (but the other way around is more common), see some examples at Conflict-of-interest editing on Wikipedia. This is one of my favorite stories.
On citing own websites: this is fine, to an extent: WP:ABOUTSELF. We can use HBA publications for name of CEO, where is the HQ, etc. Not we are the greatest, we won these awards, these are our best works. BUT: on the question "should WP have an article on this company/person/whatever" (WP:N), your own websites are irrelevant, only independent coverage matters. Hope that makes a kind of sense.
I'm not going to go through your list of links, but take the first one, it's an interview with one of your people, that's not independent and won't help with the afd. is absolutely independent, but it says very little about HBA. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:47, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Gråbergs Gråa Sång. am I right in understanding that right now, what our page lacks the credibility to make people believe that Hirsch Bedner Associates has been around for 60 years and right now, we need to prove that we have independent articles (not influenced & contributed by HBA and republished)
Also, how do I know how many days are left for the AFD to close?
Currently, I intend to place the articles found that seem independent directly onto the AFD so that other editors also have a view of the potential articles on Hirsch Bedner Associates. I hope this works! Shivgi291025 (talk) 01:52, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
WP:GNG sources is what you need to show in the afd. They usually lasts 7 days from start, but this can be extended. Credibility isn't exactly the problem, GNG coverage is. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 03:48, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Gråbergs Gråa Sång, I understand! Currently, what would be the next steps though? Would it be waiting for the AFD to be closed and then I could continue or should I start curating the content in my own talk page first (for review - which is what I read from Wikipedia:When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia)
As there isnt a deadline to the AFD Shivgi291025 (talk) 04:23, 2 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Nothing prevents you from trying again, you have declared your COI etc. If the article is deleted, you can start a new draft, work on it as long as you like and then submit it for review. More at WP:YFA and WP:BACKWARD. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 04:29, 2 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, the page got deleted.
I'd like to work on recreating it properly. Before I start, I have a few questions:
  1. Given the sources available, do you think HBA meets Wikipedia's notability standard at all, or would a new article face the same outcome? In my opinion, there may be some more independent articles, just that I would have to dig deeper and see if there are any journals etc.
  2. If yes, would you be willing to review a draft before I submit it?
  3. Is Articles for Creation (AfC) the right process for me to follow given my COI? I referred to the steps on Wikipedia:Article wizard that allows to create a draft
  4. What would the ideal source look like for establishing HBA's notability in your view?
Shivgi291025 (talk) 10:54, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
1. I don't know. It seems likely for a company of this size and age that WP:GNG sources exists, but most of what's come up so far seemed to me to have WP:TRADES and WP:PRSOURCE issues. This could be a consequence of HBA mainly doing a good job and not getting in trouble over the years.
2. No. You can try WP:AFCHELP.
3. Yes, more text on this at WP:AFC.
4. Something like . It's in-depth about the org, not an interview with a rep, and clearly independent of org. I still think [1] helps towards WP:GNG, but it's not enough by itself. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:35, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, alright I understand the above points! Just one thing I don't quite understand - we had the Hirsch Bedner Associates page for more than a decade, and then when we made edits to it, it got deleted as suddenly WP editors saw that our page is suddenly actively making edits and we had too many promotional links?
I am trying to understand as to why this sort of thing happened just now, and not when the page was active for many years (I also need to seek clarification to explain to my reporting manager)
i would really appreciate your advice on this Shivgi291025 (talk) 03:17, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
WP:ARTICLEAGE. Wikipedians only notice what they notice and feel like spending time on. Imperfect/bad stuff can last for years on this open wiki. One editor thought an afd was in order, and the editors who looked at that thought deletion was the way to go. Also, WP-rules like WP:N and WP:NORG has gradually gotten stricter over the years, and articles that was ok-ish earlier may not be anymore. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 04:34, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you decide to make a new draft, one place you can try asking for input is the talkpage of Wikipedia:WikiProject Companies. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 04:54, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, thank you for the advice! may i ask if by any chance it is possible to get back a deleted page? Shivgi291025 (talk) 01:47, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Note: Hirematviru's mentor Cyberdog958 is away.

Hi Mentor For the past several months I've been facing repeated accusations of having a conflict of interest (COI). I genuinely have no financial, personal or professional connection with any of the subjects I edit. Could you please guide me on how I can avoid these accusations? What kind of edits should I focus on and what practices would help demonstrate that I have no COI? I'm willing to follow your advice and improve my editing. I just want to contribute in line with Wikipedia's policies and avoid any misunderstandings --Hirematviru (talk) 15:27, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Hirematviru I can take a guess, scrolling your talkpage, but I'm not an admin so I can't see deleted articles/drafts. It seems you have uploaded pics of people as "own work". "Own work" in this context means "I took this picture myself with my own camera." And if you did that, it's fairly likely you know that person and so you have a COI. The other explanation is that you are calling something someone else created your "own work", and that's against the rules here and can get you blocked. The rule of thumb for uploading pics on Commons/Wikipedia is that almost every pic you see online is under copyright, and so you can't upload them. Take the time to read COM:THIRD. WP and Commons takes copyright seriously, pics, text, whatever.
Other things that can make people think COI is WP:FLOWERY writing, and using a lot of WP:ABOUTSELF sources, this includes interviews with the subject, perhaps with WP:COPYPASTE thrown in. Hope this helps some. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:58, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I am still not very familiar with all the Wikipedia guidelines. For example, I didn't even know about the Commons policy and I also don't know how to upload fair-use files properly. Because of that... I will make sure not to do anything in the future that goes against Wikipedia's rules. I also hope my account won't be blocked. I have seen that many users face a lot of difficulties after being blocked. I am here only to volunteer and contribute positively, not to create conflicts. If I make any mistakes, I am always willing to learn from them and follow the guidelines correctly. Hirematviru (talk) 16:02, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Hirematviru Fair-use on Commons is very easy: Commons accepts no fair use at all. Follow that rule, and you'll have no trouble on Commons.
Now, English Wikipedia does in some very limited situations accept a fair-use pic, if there is no "free" alternative. These pics are uploaded on en-WP, not Commons, and basically includes WP:LEADIMAGEs for
Wikipedia is a learning-by-doing place, you will pick up on our strange rules and customs as time goes by. You may want to take a look at WP:BLP and Wikipedia:A picture of you. Happy editing! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:20, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Duh.gloss Welcome to Wikipedia! Fwiw, this is not unexpected around here. We have about 7.2 million articles and about 260 thousand active editors (meaning they did at least 5 edits in the last 30 days), so a lot of talkpages have no eyes on them.

edit

Thanks for your contributions to The Huntsman (2026). Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing as a live article at this time because it consists of machine-generated text and Even the remaining content after several passes of ref-citing is not fully supported.. I have converted it to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. DMacks (talk) 05:00, 2 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

You're invited to the Mentorship noticeboard

edit

Hi, Gråbergs Gråa Sång. You are cordially invited to the brand new Wikipedia:Mentorship noticeboard. I get the impression sometimes that we mentors are each toiling in our own cubbyhole or hamster wheel, quietly answering mentee questions with little to no interaction with other mentors. I think we have a lot to share and learn from each other, and I know it will make me feel better just having the opportunity to interact with you and other mentors there, and I hope it will for you, too. Look forward to seeing you there! Mathglot (talk) 06:55, 4 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Sam Ndanga (15:13, 11 July 2026)

edit

how do i get my page --Sam Ndanga (talk) 15:13, 11 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Sam Ndanga If you mean that you want User:Sam Ndanga to be a WP-article, that won't happen. Start with reading WP:YFA. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:36, 11 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from DBFI (11:07, 12 July 2026)

edit

Hello! Where should I get my references from to make sure the accurate integrity of Wikipedia is stable? --DBFI (talk) 11:07, 12 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@DBFI Depends on context and what the ref is for. WP:RS has general guidance, and WP:RSP is a long list of sources that have been discussed several times. If you scroll through that you may get a general hint of what's expected. If you're thinking of making a new article, you need WP:GNG sources. New Mentee!

edit

Hello! I am your new mentee, ^nostalgicnonbinary. My pronouns are they/them and I am interested in a variety of topics, more specifically Disney Parks, as it is my special interest.

It is nice to meet you 😁 and I am excited to curate and make Wikipedia a better place with you. ^nostalgicnonbinary (talk) 16:29, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Welcome! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:57, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have a question about userboxes. I am trying to put them on my user page and I pasted the code to them but when I published the page, it didn't show the userbox but rather just the code (ex. {{User:Quinara9/UBX/enby}} instead of the image that is associated with it). I see that you have userboxes on your page so I was wondering if you could help me. Thank you 🙂 ^nostalgicnonbinary (talk) 17:34, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

BFDI card game

edit

I understand why the information about Battle for Dream Island: The Card Game was removed. I'm just wondering, if I can rephrase it to "A card game adaptation developed by Dylan Kistler and Kipling Parowski titled Battle for Dream Island: The Card Game will be/was released in Fall 2026.", can I add it back? Or do I have to wait for sources to cover it? TheFlamer2024 (talk) 23:31, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

You need sources that are not WP:ABOUTSELF, WP:SPS etc. Without that, you're just selling their stuff, that's what their websites are for. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 03:46, 16 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Guntroid (16:21, 22 July 2026)

edit

Hello! I have been having an issue editing Phil Noble’s picture on his Wikipedia page. I just want to make sure we have what we need to upload an image that is owned by him. --Guntroid (talk) 16:21, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Guntroid See this guidance:
Wikipedia:A picture of you
COM:THIRD
You stated at File:Phil Noble.png that you are the copyright holder and that you took it yourself with your own camera. It's fine to state that if it's true, not otherwise. Consider replying in the Commons:Deletion requests/File:Phil Noble.png discussion. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:02, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Ike Lek (02:34, 25 July 2026)

edit

Hey, it's been a minute. Hope you are doing well. I found an issue on Indonesian Wikipedia. A user banned for sockpuppetry had their accounts banned on English Wikipedia and their editing to various articles about ethnic groups in Indonesia reverted, resulting in many articles being deleted or redirected. On Indonesian Wikipedia, some of their accounts were banned, but much of their editing on ethnic group articles, which tended to be WP:OR at best, remains in place and includes information directly contradicting cited sources. Additionally, some of their socks which got banned on English Wikipedia have escaped on Indonesian Wikipedia, such as Kobokanaeru73. I'd like to get into contact with admin on Indonesian Wikipedia to look into it to prevent the spread of further misinformation, but I'm struggling to find a way to do that since I don't speak the language. Is there a good way to notify the people of another language's Wikipedia of issues like this? --Ike Lek (talk) 02:34, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Ike Lek I don't know. Try asking at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Indonesia or WP:AN. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 03:34, 25 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

New Page

edit

Hi, I submitted a new page a few months ago, I got feedback, addressed and resubmitted. It is possible to see where it is in the process? Thanks TheWikiExplorerGuy (talk) 00:33, 31 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@TheWikiExplorerGuy If the template says "Review waiting, please be patient.", that's pretty much it. Like all volunteers, reviewers look at stuff they want to. Fwiw, the template has some "Where to get help" guidance. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 03:22, 31 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
