I just finished watching Crossroad Blues (ep 2.08) in my SPN rewatch, and I've been wondering about something that takes place in the scene with Dean and the crossroads demon. When he attempts an exorcism, she gives in and breaks Evan's contract in exchange for her freedom. Why would sending a crossroads demon back to hell be something it would want to avoid? They work for their boss, wouldn't they just be sent back to earth to continue making deals?

This ep opens with Sam having a vision that Dean shoots someone (Duanne Tanner). Later on, Dean decides not to kill Duanne.

SAM
You know I'm gonna ask you why.

DEAN
Yeah, I know.

SAM
So why? Why didn't you do it?

Sam aims at Jake Tanner, but he hesitates, giving him time to get away. Foreshadowing for later in the season, when Sam hesitates, and doesn't kill Jake Talley.

I love that this storyline gets picked up again in season 5. Croatoan and The End are both such favorite eps! And this scene is awesome.

Sam pleading with Dean not to shoot Duane. Dean's struggle as he decides not to do it... it's such an amazing scene. <3

I love the contrast between this and what happened in Sam's vision at the beginning of the ep.
