Six Word Challenge - Poem

This week's words from spikesgirl58

Fair
Mitten
Country
Delirious
Glib
Responsible

button down coat meets the kiss of frosty air,

mittens grip the cold of what life prepares,

balance on the rim of who used to care,

tightrope walk between stars if you really dare

*

responsible ceiling kneels down to kiss the floors,

closed eyes reject their way through a million doors,

delirious dimes pay the wage of a payment scored,

broken things break which your glib ignores

*

patient mornings chase through a restless dawn,

fair yellow sun that hearts write their peace upon,

country moments birth a kinder spawn,

harsh places fade when better things are drawn

*

fair the bud and fair the rain, that dangles hope like oxygen,

spring unfolds when winter’s heart won’t bend,

feel the thaw like your life depends,

on these four words…. hey, let’s begin again

Daily Questions

5. Do you have a smoke and/or carbon monoxide detector in your home?
There’s a smoke detector in all of the apartments here.

6. Today is the beginning of Great British Pea Week in the UK. Do you like eating peas? Have you ever grown them?
I can’t eat them anymore, but I loved having them fresh or in a pea soup. Many years ago I grew them on my balcony garden.

7. It’s the seventh day of the seventh month, and in Japan, it’s the day of the Star Festival (Tanabata). For one day only, wishes, hopes, poetry and dreams are written onto streamers and tied to trees. What would you write on a streamer today?
Didn’t do that on the 7th, but it sounds like a lovely idea.

8. Artemisia Gentileschi was born today in 1593. She was incredibly famous during her career, but largely forgotten until the 20th century. Have you ever seen any of her paintings?
Yes! She's an amazing artist.

9. It’s World Misophonia Day. A person with this disorder has decreased tolerance for certain sounds as well as the stimuli that accompany those sounds (for example, loud chewing). Someone with the condition will experience feelings of distress, which may overwhelm them. Are there any sounds that you find irritating, even if you don’t suffer from this condition?
I’m very, very sound sensitive. Fire alarm bells bother me so much, that I carry around a set of noise cancelling headphones whenever I walk around in the building.

10. When you eat thick-cut chips/French fries, do you add a sauce such as ketchup or mayonnaise, or do you prefer a condiment like vinegar or lemon with them?
When I ate French Fries, I always had ketchup. Totally delcioius!

Six Word Challenge - Poem

Last week's poem, with words from spikesgirl58

Dollar
Fire
Ample
Blue
Shell
Estate

estate sale calls my name, i’m worth a dime, i’m worth a dollar,

blue shores find my grey, push me backwards when I holler,

planted pennies line my fields, their roots grow ever smaller,

my city streets are pastured cows that run from crime and squalor

*

oceans sink like stone, i hide below in stony hollows,

waves fire my sad name, dragged in mud until I wallow,

ample shells declare me sane, their shapes I bend to follow,

the feathered wings that bless the sky send love for me to swallow
cat sparkler

Happy 4th of July

Me, my porch goose, and her two companions wish you a very happy 4th! :D

Catching up on the Daily Questions! The rest of them are under the cut...

17. How active have you been over the year so far?
I take daily walks. I try to get at least 2,000 steps a day. Sometimes I take a day off or don’t reach that number and some days I get 3,000 or more steps.

18. How do you feel about Artificial Intelligence?
I have mixed feelings about it. It can be very helpful, but I worry about how much control it’ll have over our lives as it continues to evolve. Too many vids that are AI don’t identify themselves as such and eventually it’ll be impossible to tell what’s real and what’s not.

19. Have you ever had a pedicure?
No.

20. Do you have any friendships that have lasted more than a decade?
Yes. I’m still close to my best friend from high school. We’ve known each other since the ‘70s. We text daily and and talk on the phone occasionally.

21. In 2022, the UK passed a law requiring calorie information to be displayed on menus, online menus, third-party apps, food delivery platforms and food labels at the point a customer is making their food and drink choices. Do you think that would make you reconsider your choices when ordering food?
I don’t eat out, but I think the law is a good idea. I like knowing the calorie content of everything I eat.

22. If you have a backyard/garden, do you save rainwater for watering the plants in the summertime?
We don’t do that here.

23. If money were no object, would you rather have a gardener, a cleaner, a chef, a masseuse, a beautician, a florist or a hairdresser (or someone else) to be ‘on call’ for you every day? Choose one :D
I already ready have someone who helps me out in various ways a few afternoons a week. I would increase the amount of time she’d be here if money were no object.

I'm Back!

For the past week I haven 't been able to connect to LJ. I was so worried that it would never work for me again! It finally came back again this morning and I'm so relieved. But it's still a bit off, sometimes its timing out and I have to try again. I hope it completely goes back to normal soon!

LJ, never leave me again! *clings*

I've missed all of you! *hugs*

Six Word Challenge - Poem

Words from the last few weeks from spikesgirl58

Hallway
Nominate
Water
Qualifications
Relinquish
Wait

nominate her as the queen of every lost dream,
she wills the water to turn her into steam,
her liquid qualifies as every solid passes by,
stuck in a hallway, a forgotten door that flies

common sense ain’t one of her seasons,
rhyme relinquishes its throne for sour reasons,
she blazes glory that her plain hills lack,
branches wait for the leaves that time brings back

Skid
Lawyer
Last
Translate
Bit
Wave

skid row summer sinks in like a book’s first page,
words torn from concrete collect their first humid wage,
hot sunshine lawyers, waves of heat they defend,
story’s end sweats like a sidewalks best friend

translate tongues of fire, water words prevent burn,
a bit of winter breeze cries for seasonal turn,
icicle oven broils the last snowflake's decay,
sagging skies steal the wings of the birds that delay
bunny bonnet

June Rose and Daily Questions

A pretty rose growing near my apartment...

Daily Questions

5. Have you learned anything new in the past year (a new hobby/craft/language/fact)?
I'm always learning new "facts' from youtube vids. I'd like to learn some new crafts or take up old ones I haven't done in ages (embroidery, weaving, etc, etc).

6. Can you swim? If so, what age were you when you had lessons?
I've known how to swim for as long as I can remember. I don't remember if I took lessons or not. I went to the swimming pool at my local community center or to the ocean at Brighton Beach.

7. Have you ever made pastry from scratch?
Probably did it along with my mom. We did a lot of baking together back in the 60's and 70's.

8. If you could share your life with any kind of animal (assume for a moment that the animal is tame and wouldn’t kill you, and you had the space and resources to care for it *g*), what kind of animal would be your dream companion (real or imaginary)?
A horse or unicorn! I've been told that a horse is my spirit animal, or the animal that I most take after..

9. Do you like wearing hats?
Most winter hats are too tight, so I usually wear a hoodie scarf in the cooler weather. But I do like wearing summer hats to protect my head from the sun in warmer weather.

10. Have you ever been to a horse race?
No, but I just finished watching Wildfire, which is about a young female jockey who loves horse racing.

11. Have you ever taken a first aid course? Do you know how to perform CPR?
No and no. But it would be a good skill to learn.

12. Is there any food you would never contemplate eating?
Eating prehistoric meat, like those scientists did back in 1984. 36,000 year old frozen steppe bison? No way! I mean, I'm vegetarian so I wouldn't eat it anyway, but even when I did eat meat I never would've done this!

13. If you could win a cash prize, what would be the minimum you would want to win?
A million for starters would be nice, lol. But I have won small cash prizes from playing Lotto.

14. Are there many people in your family who are left-handed?
Don't know.

15. When was the last time you laughed out loud?
Yesterday, when watching a youtube vid.

16. Do you still use paperclips?
Sometimes, but not as often as I used to.

Daily Questions for the rest of May and the beginning of June...

20. It’s International Customer Support Day. When was the last time you had to contact customer support? Were they able to help you?
I contacted Amazon and as usual they were very helpful.

21. It’s International Tea Day – do you like a cup of tea every now and again? What type of tea do you drink?
I usually drink Chamomile tea. It’s good for my IBS, calms my nerves and helps me get a few hours of sleep at night.

22. Today Vivid Sydney starts in Sydney, Australia (and continues until 13th June). Iconic landmarks and urban spaces glow with stunning light installations and 3D projections, captivating both locals and tourists with a vibrant playground of lights, music, and creativity. Have you ever seen a city light show similar to this?
https://www.vividsydney.com
I haven’t seen anything like this.

23. When is the last time you ate fresh pineapple – did you prepare it yourself?
It’s been so long, I don’t remember.

24. If you had a pet dog, what name would you give it? What’s the weirdest dog name you’ve heard?
It would depend on the type of dog and their personality, so I’d need to meet them first before naming them. But if I’d randomly pick a few dog names, then I’d choose Bear or Luna. I also love the name I gave my childhood Cocker Spaniel… Thena. The weirdest name was the official name for my Yorkie from childhood… Wedgewood Fling!

25. It’s estimated that gaming now holds around an 11% share of the global entertainment market. Have you ever played an electronic game (on your phone, computer or a game console)?
I play games on my phone all the time.

26. When you look up into the sky, can you identify any of the cloud formations, such as Cumulonimbus, Cirrus or Stratus?

Yes, though I usually think of them as plump lower clouds and thin upper clouds, lol.

27. Have you ever tried box breathing? It is an effective way to calm yourself if you are feeling panicky or overwhelmed. You can find the instructions on this page.
https://www.calm.com/blog/box-brea…
I have done breathing exercises before, but I haven’t tried box breathing.

28. Do you have a favourite cologne or perfume?
I don’t wear perfume and I try to avoid being around anyone wearing a lot of it. It can give me a headache and I don’t like anything that smells artificial.

29. When was the last time it rained where you live?
Today.

30. What is your favourite way to eat vegetables?
I mostly eat them as purees because it’s easier for me to digest them.

31. Have you ever been in a self-driving car? Would you want to try it?
No and no thanks! I don’t trust the technology.

JUNE
1. Is anything (minor or major) irritating you at the moment?
AI videos that aren’t clearly marked that they’re fake.

2. Have you ever used a photobooth? Are they still around where you live (where’s the nearest one?)
I used photobooths when I was younger. I haven’t seen one in ages.

3. Do you still pay for things with cash? Have you been somewhere recently where they don’t take cash anymore?
I occasionally pay for things in cash, if it’s small amount. Also, we have a tiny store in my building that’s open a few times a week, and they only take cash.

4. Is rain forecast for your area this week?
We'll have rain until Friday next week.

Six Word Challenge - Poem

A few weeks words from spikesgirl58

Stream
Macabre
Limit
Gaudy
Crave
Utopian

she colors walls the pallid shade of benign distinction,

icy hearts produce no dragons here,

bedraggled moons are busy craving in their place of limits,

a timid mouth eats spoons of fear

utopia denies its waking hour, flatter plains applaud a mountain’s cower,

time walks home again,

she barters sleep for arid streams, macabre nights rip daytime seams,

gaudy plates serve poverty

Pneumonia
Achieve
Company
Smooth
Ensure
Gallery

pneumonia moon with crippled gaze achieves a coughing glance,

begging the sun most urgently to warm its sick expanse,

shrinking crescent crater eyes, delusion’s wings all spent,

ensures a crooked sunrise grin where rays of health ain’t bent

plump moon’s threadbare gallery where forlorn sleepers graze,

limps its way outside the door, now it’s a past tense phrase,

a healthy tug restarts her dance, rotation time at last,

the company of earth and stars, nothing better can be asked
