I saw this excellent video from Terrible Writing Advice (a great channel where advice is given sarcastically), and thought you might all enjoy it. It shows how complicated and how trite rebel groups can be. You might recognize the Varden being described in here.

Date: 2022-06-07 02:49 am (UTC)Some time ago I posted a short "fix it" scene which rebrands the Varden as a State-controlled false flag operation basically run by Galbatorix for the purpose of scaring the population into supporting him instead of any potential opponents of his. Basically a version of the "nice farm you have here, it would be a shame if something happened to it" kind of deal.
With the way the Varden behaved and operated, you basically have to change nothing about the story to make them fit with this reframing.

Date: 2022-06-06 06:08 am (UTC)That makes quite a lot of sense. I'll call them "love corners" from now on.

Date: 2022-06-07 03:46 am (UTC)Exactly! A love triangle would imply that the two guys could also potentially get together.
