My favorite community is get_knitted! It's for creative types, and features daily check-ins where you can talk about your creative accomplishments for that day, or vent if you're having issues. Everyone is lovely and supportive there.

I also keep a list of interesting Dreamwidth communities I've found/stumbled upon, and repost that list from time to time. Here's the latest list - it's posted publicly, so feel free to share!

I'm always on the lookout for other communities to add to the list. If you know of any you'd like to see featured, let me know! It doesn't have to be something that I personally would enjoy - as long as I think SOMEONE would enjoy it and it sounds interesting, I'll add it.

rec_cember - big success last year, very excited for next December already. All The Recs \o/

youtuberecs - handy place to share videos that you find especially compelling.
scans_daily - still has their loyal crowd of people showing up in the comments, but could use more variety in the scans/previews posted. Still a great place to keep up with the big comics.
capshare - find small, curated batches from specific fandoms. Or post some yourself, increasing the odds of icons happening ;)
tarot - I'd love to see more folks talking about their cards and practice on dw.
drawesome - Monthly challenge/theme, low pressure way to make and share some art.
chillwaves - all the fanmix love!

Oh, I am so glad there's an IwtV comm! I literally started the show yesterday and blew through the first season! My partner was getting all my glee commentary (which he doesn't mind, he loved the show too) but it'll be fun to dive into things with other people.

Oh yay, another convert :D Hope you're enjoying season 2 (it's phenomenal). I've had great luck with a couple of previous fandom communities, hoping IWTV will foster the same level of discussions.

The only comm I'm in that's active is gamechangerhr. It's for Game Changers book series/Heated Rivalry TV series and pretty much drama free.

I post a weekly link update to interviews, feature articles, video, etc.

I'll rec ushobwri It's a writing support comm that posts a few times a week for people to talk in and share work on Thursdays. It's such a supportive, kind group of people and even though I'm not as active on there as I'd like to be, I still really enjoy it

One of my favorite communities is common_nature which is also, happily, regularly active. I'm also really happy to see various icon challenge communities active. I'll shout out 100fandomicons because it's always fun to see all the different fandoms people come up with.

I would love to see more activity for dreamwars and meta_warehouse, as I think there are enough people here interested in Star Wars to make that happen, and meta_warehouse is open to any kind of meta.

And I would really, really like to see people making recs at rec communities such as recthething, which is also open to any fandom and fanwork and does not require special formatting or timed posts. I see people reccing things almost every day and it would be so much more helpful to have those collected in a central place.

I love recthething. I haven't been posting there much recently, but it's definitely a comm I check often!

I’ve been really enjoying posting on vkotd lately, which is a comm for sharing visual kei (Japanese rock/metal music scene) songs. It’s so nice to just have a space where I can share and gush about all my favorite bands and songs.

Ahh, I keep forgetting videogamefanfiction exists even though videogame fanfiction is literally all I write ever 😭 Maybe I should try to post there once I'm back home...

it's a small, low-key comm still. Perhaps I should do more promo in places so people know to find it. I just think it's nice to have a comm dedicated exclusively to video game fics

Some of my favorite communities include:

allbingo creative bingo comm with different monthly themes hosted by comm members. Fills can be anything and you can make your own cards of any size, unless a particular challenge states otherwise. I cohost 2 bingos a year there; Winterfest in July (since 2014) and Fall Fest (in October since 2015).

endings share you favorite last line of anything- book, tv show, page of a book, movie, your own fic, song, anything. Just keep the source anonymous.

get_knitted This one has already been recommended, but it is one of my favorites. A place for people to come in and talk about what they've been working on (or not working on). It's fun and the community is very supportive.

queerly_beloved My favorite part of this comm is the weekly recs post where you can add recommendations for LGBT+ related things (books, lgbt+ businesses, ect). I just wish it was more active.

whatif_au A writing comm with open ended AU writing themes. Right now they are doing their 3rd anniversary bingo.

alittleimprobable (cheeky self plug) this is where I post all of my fic, icons, wallpapers and occasional music videos, fanmixes/fic playlists and prompt tables. Not everything posted here makes it onto archives so some things are kinda exclusive to DW. It is set to subscribe only, as always feel free to track any tags of interest :)

writethisfanfic (cheeky mod plug) a daily(ish) writing community with a check in post hosted by a volunteer which generally changes every week. Aim is to be supportive to all fic writers including original fic whether it's your first ever fic or your thousandth fic. The recurring monthly posts are always pinned to the top. There are so many ways to use the community that I can't even list them all. We're super chill.

communal_creators a super chill and supportive community for all types of creativity. It has a month long round in September and a shorter weekly round usually in March.

cultivativity a locked support community to cultivate creativity, there are seven modules with a variety of topics and prompts to work through.

fic_rush/fic_rush_48 a monthly(ish) weekend writing sprint, the next one is coming up at the end of May. Lots of fun.

inkingitout a locked year long supportive, low key, chill, writing challenge where the minimum word count is 75,000 words which you choose what to work on. There's weekly check in posts by the mods each week. Sign ups go live at the beginning of December and close early January.

fan_flashworks multimedia flash challenge with new prompts every ten days or so.

I love that get_knitted got some love; I'm friends with the moderator.

And I know it already got plugged, but I really enjoy whatif_au; it's helped me step out of my comfort zone several times.

Another that I love, that's just opened up for signups for this year's challenge, is intoabar; if someone already promoted this, and I didn't see it, I apologize. But anything this fun deserves the attention.
