I was just going to watch a few minutes over lunch and then finish it later, THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

That was so delicious and twisty and full of things. Root! Shaw! The Machine becoming sentient and buying up payphones (I feel like "Ernest Thornhill" is exactly the sort of name a machine would pick)! Hard reset (which okay, is a bit pat, but it makes sense)!

The OPENING.

"Can't we just unplug it and plug it back in again?" oh John.

Harold's HAT.

"I'm not a sociopath, Harold." Root is such a fantastic villain and they're making the best possible use of her this season.

The fact that he keeps on calling her "Ms. Groves", oh Mr. Finch.

The LIBRARY.

Finch calling the police on John was such a brilliant twist. And of course John (with his growing stubble of things-aren't-right) is sure that he was forced to do it.

"I've lost people before, so when I care about someone I put a tracking device on them."
I'VE LOST PEOPLE BEFORE, SO WHEN I CARE ABOUT SOMEONE I PUT A TRACKING DEVICE ON THEM.
Everything about that line. The delivery, everything. <3 <3 <3

REESE AND SHAW DREAM TEAM.

The Machine's memory!

Oh that scene with Nathan and Harold, so many feelings. "People die, Nathan, they've been doing it for a long, long time."

"So adorable how John follows you around like that, I wish I had a pet."

"It's for you John"

IS IT NEXT WEEK YET. HOW ABOUT NOW.

I want to write a fic now called "The Importance of Being Ernest." And I won't, but somebody else will no doubt. (I wish it was Ernestine, but one can't have everything.)

The "unplug and plug back in" thing is... I know it's not really a "Lost" reference, except it kind of is, but it was delicious on its own. And the tracking devices, yes yes yes. Oh, John.

Except no time for "oh, John" because OH, HAROLD and OH, NATHAN and... just too much. OH, MACHINE. And I loved Harold and Root on the town together, and yes, she says "Please call me Root" and he keeps calling her "Ms. Groves," it's perfect. And (I said this already but why not again): She thinks I write children's books. I just so much want the happy horrific tale of a little bird named Harold, written by Root and illustrated by Grace. SO MUCH.

A little bird wearing a HAT.

I may be coherent about all this later, but for right now that's what I've got.

Yes, it was very weird to think of the Machine as having a male avatar, but I can see she was going for totally generic white businessman there.

So many amazing things! I just so much want the happy horrific tale of a little bird named Harold, written by Root and illustrated by Grace. OH MY GOD I need this in my life. Maybe someone on tumblr will draw pictures? I just, I want to see the story where Root had to do more leg-work to set up her identity, so she ends up actually writing a children's book and has fun with it. DON'T LET THE PIGEON CONTROL THE SENTIENT COMPUTER.

In other news, I appear to have written a mini fic in which John plants the tracking device. SO MANY FEELINGS. I'm sorry, this is a strictly coherent-free zone.

Oh, that's lovely. (The small bit of me that manages logic keeps saying "but Harold owns more than one pair of glasses" but I don't care, really, because it is all so dreadfully adorable. And I mean the dreadfully part.)

DON'T LET THE PIGEON CONTROL THE SENTIENT COMPUTER. OMG yes.

I've now put the children's book (or Root and Grace anything) request on the kink meme. We'll see if anyone picks it up.
