I am moving to Oxford tomorrow and getting over a bout of pneumonia, and it's Person of Interest that has left me feeling NOT OKAY.

Noooooooo.
yunitsa: text: "an amiable young woman & famous for reading Greek while other people were hunting" (austen - amiable young woman)
So after dithering and dithering until the last moment, I didn't sign up for Yuletide -- I think for the first time in, what, seven years? It's not like there was nothing I could have written - just browsing vaguely through the letters, I ended up composing several stories in my head - but actually writing something down for an assignment felt like it would be just one more stressful addition to the massive to-do list. It's making me sad, though - another thing I used to enjoy taken away. Maybe I'll try to write some treats or pick up a pinch hit or something.

Last weekend I went to Bath with my gang of old university friends, which was absolutely lovely (we stayed at a grand old house in the middle of town and cooked nice food and went to the spa), but having those three days off meant I had to work frantically the week before and the week after to compensate and now I still don't feel like I've caught up. Today did manage to write a particularly thorny job application that I'd unwisely left until the last minute and to clean the flat, neither of which I wanted to do, so there's that. Plan for tomorrow is to go in early to finalise my essay marking and run errands, and then come home for lunch and reread Richard III and Frankenstein for my classes this week, though given how terrible I am at mornings (even with the extra hour), I suspect it may be a very late lunch. And now I am off to guilt-watch Downton Abbey.

(Oh, and also I was at the Welcome to Night Vale live show on Thursday! It was awesome, though some of the other live shows they've done must have been even more amazing to experience. And in other news, still continue to love Person of Interest to an unreasonable extent apparently unshared by the rest of the Internet, or at least the corner of it I'm aware of.)

I've spent the afternoon and evening working away on a difficult thing, so now I'm tired and rather loopy, but all the same, reading this comment in the Yuletide eligibility evidence post just made me laugh and laugh until I cried. I think "this is his eyebrows, and solely his eyebrows" and it just sets me off again. YULETIDE, guys.

You're welcome.

Person of Interest was back this week, and I don't even know what's wrong with the Internet that it took me so long to realise that was the case. I had hoped so much to finish the Restoration AU -- the one I started over a year ago -- before the new series, but that was clearly never going to happen with the way things are going. (I'm even iffy on Yuletide this year.) But! I love this show so so much!

spoilers are playing by the rules )

Is there fic? Why has everyone stopped talking about this show and writing good fic for me to read :(

(Also back? Downton Abbey. Let us never speak of this again.)

So I was having a Facebook message conversation earlier today with my Partner in Crime about Lymond fancasting, in which she was once again attempting to convince me of Richard Armitage as Richard Crawford.

PiC: I think you underestimate Richard. He's way more than the solid dependable one, that's why I love him.... And if there's one thing RA can do, it's to make "simple" characters complex. He says himself that if you give him a good character he looks for the darkness within, and if you give him a villain he looks for the struggle to vanquish the good. Or something like that, much more eloquently put...basically, all his characters are Manichees.

Me: Meanwhile, I see your reasoned explanation, and I find myself increasingly won over simply given his recent growing of a beard.

Me: It might as well as been "basically, all his characters are manatees"

Me: click if you dare )

PiC: *stunned silence, followed by digression on the Tumblr "Richard Armitage with Cats"*

PiC: He does look as if he's let himself go a bit in your pic, admittedly.

Me: Maybe he's in disguise as a dissolute Irish bard? I hear you like that sort of thing.
*dissolute Irish manatee bard

PiC: Well, it's a very good disguise...

Me: My lute awake.

Me: Read more... )

PiC: Stop it. Never before have I looked at pictures of RA and pissed myself laughing. It is an unfamiliar and disturbing sensation.

Me: As Lord Peter Wimsey put it, "the worst sin that passion can commit is to be joyless. It must lie down with laughter or make its bed in hell; there is no middle way."

Me: I feel certain he was referring to crudely photoshopped pictures of Richard Armitage as a lyre-playing manatee.

In other news, I have another interview in a far-away location tomorrow, horror horror horror.
yunitsa: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern look at a letter together (ros & guil)
I have discovered, in the course of my employment, that the whole second half of Robert Louis Stevenson's Catriona/David Balfour (it's both a pairing and a titling controversy!) is made up entirely of misunderstandings and pining and domesticity. It is the most AO3ish thing I've ever read outside of the AO3 (there's even a witty yenta character, whose attempts to coach the central character are mistaken for romantic interest), and since this is a fairly obscure novel that I can't imagine influencing the development of fic tropes over a century later, I can only assume that RLS was of our party without knowing it.

(I suppose many of these would be romance novel tropes as well, though it's unusual to have them from a male first-person POV. And I can't imagine what the original readers of Kidnapped would have made of it all.)
yunitsa: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern look at a letter together (ros & guil)
...we discover that when Abed Nadir cares about someone, he plants a tracking device on them.

Also, I may have genuinely cried during the end of episode 5, which is quite a feat for a comedy show. ABED <3 <3 CLONE ABED <3 <3 <3

Posting somewhat belatedly to say !!!! over the Person of Interest finale, which was amazing and nearly everything I could have asked for. You can see me emote at [personal profile] hedda62 a bit here, as well as by flailing and reblogging lots of gifs over at my Tumblr.

I also wrote a tiny ficlet in response, because I had to, okay.

And that is it, the end! Thank you all for putting up with my daily posting schedule :) I should note that the very last scene was the first one that I wrote on this story, as often happens - I usually know where I'm going, if not how to get there.

One more chapter left, though it's another very long one! I was going to witter on here about the process and thought behind these, but no one really wants to know how the sausage is made, so I will not :)
