Well, shit. I don't know about you guys (if there's still any of you reading this shit), but it has been a fucking long time since I actually thought about or cared about this thing. My band situation has changed! For those of you who still care, I have a new band, they're called "A Quiet Dignity", and as usual we're still in need of a drummer, but we have an acoustic demo ready at www.myspace.com/aquietdignity. Check it out! Life update later. -Joe x
Don't suppose anybody's heard of Jack White's new project? They're called the Raconteurs, and they're truly excellent. It's almost like the White Stripes, but it's quite different and a full band are sitting behind him this time, including singer-songwriter Brendan Benson, also from Detroit or so I'm aware. Standout tracks include Steady As She Goes, Broken Boy Soldier and Yellow Sun. Fantastic.
It doesn't seem like the drummer is interested in the band. I'm not entirely sure why, but he's like, "I broke my thumb." That's all good, but he hasn't played for three months now, and I'm starting to think he's trying to dodge us. In fact, scratch starting to think. I had my beliefs. I tried to believe in him, but I can't, oh well. We need a new drummer. In other news, I went to see Placebo last night. That was a damn good gig. Most of the set list was from Meds, which I have no problem with as it's my favourite album, but they threw Come Home and Nancy Boy in from the first album, and Every Me Every You from Without You I'm Nothing. Also some things from Sleeping With Ghosts, and a Kate Bush cover, so that was cool. Support wasn't bad either-came from the White Rose Movement, a dance-rock band from the UK. I'm not entirely sure whereabouts exactly, but another band from my home land is cool enough. Geography coursework STILL DRAGS ON. UGH.
Yeah, things have gone on since I last updated this LJ. I've left my original band, Overdepth, and gone to a new one. We don't have a name yet, but I know that we will be a lot more successful. We found an awesome drummer-he really is great, especially compared to the previous drummer. We're gonna rock with him in the band, definitely.
I have all of a sudden developed a sudden and unhealthy interest obsession in the Gods that are... Pink Floyd. David Gilmour on guitar and vocals, Roger Waters on bass and vocals, Nick Mason on drums, and Rick Wright on keyboards. Together they make the most astounding music known to any form of mankind or any other species. Gilmour's guitar is ghostly indeed, ethereal, almost another being in songs such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Comfortably Numb. His voice makes itself known through a quintessential sort of Britishness that only British people can understand.
Waters is a driving and forceful songwriter. Not many people can be credited with writing a song as powerful as Hey You, or a song as cynical and critical as Money. He isn't the world's most special bass player perhaps, but he more than makes up for it with lyrics and sheer power.
Mason's drumming is special indeed. Not many people can put claim to having a drum trademark, and those of us who have heard the Floyd will know what I mean. He isn't a virtuoso but it doesn't matter-he gives Comfortably Numb and so many other masterpieces a real backbone.
Wright's keyboards make Pink Floyd. Astronomy Domine would not be the same at all had it no synthesiser, nor would Shine... . His high vocal harmonies compliment Waters' and Gilmour's perfectly, and if it weren't for him Pink Floyd would have no edge, no special quality.
Annoyingly, I have school tomorrow, after which I'm very likely to be incredibly tired, I'm not sure why, but it just gets me like that. Let's see, in the spirit of boredom, let's do a recap of the year.
-January-Started out pretty slowly really, nothing too eventful in this year. -February-Again, boring. -March-Began work experience at Richbitch Studios, a recording studio in Selly Oak, Birmingham. Got my first kiss in this month here, but that's another story. -April-Sod all really. -May-Eventful month. Met my first proper girlfriend, Laura. I loved her a lot, but the relationship didn't work out. Got my GIBSON LES PAUL WOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Amazing guitar. What else... -June-Went to see Laura for first time. Other than that nothing really. -July-Played some gigs with my band but nothing until the 22nd, which I consider our best. We were really good. Dumped by Laura on the 13th, that was really meh, but never mind. -August-Went out a lot with my friends, and saw a lot of miscellaneous things happen. September is anybody's guess.
Alright, I don't tend to update this thing very much, do I? I kind of neglect it. Never mind though, I've only got a few updates really. The band have chosen to do a selection of songs, including Velvet Revolver, Metallica, The White Stripes and possibly Bowie. We've also written one of our own songs, called 'Receive', for which we have words (that I wrote) and music. Here are the words: ---RECEIVE--- Receive
The pain that we receive The love that we receive The hate that we receive The will that we receive
The system shows us where We need to go at night The streets are cold and empty Just looking for a fight
The blows that we receive The help that we receive The want that we receive The need that we receive
The streetlights burn the tarmac My eyes scroll past the houses Watching all that walk here As dropping down they lie
The use that we receive The all that we receive The none that we receive The waste that we receive
I have settled into a kind of quiet "meh"-type feeling, if you know what I mean. Not depressed, not ecstatic, just me. And that's more than good enough for me. These past couple of weeks have been a complete emotional rollercoaster, but I'm over it, and I'm getting on with my life.
I've been into the following bands recently:
-Radiohead -At The Drive-In -The White Stripes -Manic Street Preachers
